Were they even 'wise men'?
YES, the Tribe of MAGI, were Hired by several Kingdoms through Mid-East, to be Wise Men. The Tribe was the Tribe of MAGI, one of their Jobs was Wise Men. Hence the Wise Men in Daniel 2 were from the Tribe of MAGI. They excelled in their Wisdom, because they STUDIED EVERYTHING CONSIDERED WISDOM, including Astrology.

Daniel 2:47-48 (ASV)
47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou hast been able to reveal this secret.
48 Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

They were just NORTH of Babylon, on the Western and Southern shores of the Caspian Sea.

See the Caspian Sea, the Magi had villages on the Western Shore and some on the the Southern Shore, as I understand it. Because it was PRIME grassing land for horses. See the River just west of the Babylon. The suspected route of the Magi, most likely was follow the River to Emar, then cut over that thru the valley to Ebla, then down to Charqar, then follow down to Jerusalem. WAY BETTER THAN CROSSING THE DESERT ON CAMELS.

you are setting scriptures up from unbelievers Jesus is Grace...and love that's why he came cause we could not keep the commandments God loves us read The core of the bible John 3: 16
...Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. “As for the person who hears my words BUT DOES NOT KEEP THEM, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the one who REJECTS ME AND DOES NOT ACCEPT MY WORDS; that very word which I spoke WILL CONDEMN HIM at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I KNOW THAT HIS COMMAND LEADS TO ETERNAL LIFE. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” John 12:44-50

Hi VCO,

Please read this post before you answer and just pay attention for once....

What you post above is partly correct.
Children love the story of Christ's birth with the nativity scene and the magi...
for adult education it's good to let them know that it's not correct historically.

I do have two comments to make:

1. I don't quite see the difference between the first images and the ones you deem to be correct. Is it the age of Jesus? Please clarify.

2. No one really knows where the magi came from or who they were...it depends on which biblical scholar you wish to believe.

Some do believe that they came from the East, in which region they did use camels to travel.
Some believe they were kings, and some believe they were astrologers who had been waiting for a "king" to be born that would be different. They did use astronomy to pinpoint the star, but, of course, it was not shining over ONE house or barn or cave.

I can't remember if you mentioned that they found Jesus, most probably, when He was about 2 years old and in a house.
Mathew 2:11
Mathew 2:16

This was a good post and we should be reminded every now and then that the Christmas story is a bit off....But the important aspect of it is that God became flesh and dwelt among us.

Happy Christmas.

In my Original Post:

First Picture Errors are: They are riding Camels, and if this depicts the night of the Nativity in is wrong, and yes as were about to arrive at Bethlehem after Leaving King Hearod the STAR again appear, and if the artist intended it to be 2 Years Later, it would be correct.

Second Picture Errors are: They are at the Nativity Scene, a Cave Used as a Cattle and Sheep Barn, and the Baby is in infant.

Third Picture Errors are: Baby is an infant, laying on what appears to be Hay Manger, in front of another Cave entrance. AND one of the Magi is wearing a KING's ROBE.

Fourth Picture Errors are: Only the Age of the baby is incorrect, still an infant.

Fifth Picture Errors are: More ERRORS than I First Noticed. YES they Camels imply that they rode up on them, but also one of the Magi has a crown on his head, and another has a kings robe.

Actually the bible does not mention the exact number of men that came to see Jesus only that it was obvious by the wording of the text that it was more than one.
I told you most of that came from History Books that mention that when the Magi rode out, they traditionally traveled with 10 or 12 Magi and they had a hundred man private Army. NOW when you are carrying TREASURE, YOU WANT A LOT ARMED GUARDS riding with you, and perhaps the whole Hundred man Army, to protect the HOMAGE of for the New King.

How come you expect all of HISTORY to be in the BIBLE ? ? ?

NOT EVERY THING THAT JESUS DID OR DO IS IN THE BIBLE, THE BIBLE SAYS SO:

John 21:25 (KJV)
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

It has everything to do with what you posted. You love to admonish others for sinning when you sin the same as everyone else.
Admonishing? These posts on on this thread have nothing of any sort of admonishing on my part.
Paul proclaims in verse two of chapter eight His deliverance from the Law of sin and death which he claimed to be in service to through his flesh in verse 7:23, 25. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. NOW HE CAN DO THE THINGS THAT HE WOULD BUT COULDN'T DUE TO THE LAW OF SIN IN HIS FLESH. 7:19

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

(Rom 8:2-4; 6:6,7; 1Pe 2:24)

Merry Christmas sir.

Yep and Paul qualifies it....faith plus works for....Galatians 1 and 3......a gospel of a different kind!!!

Galatians 3:2-3 (HCSB)
2 I only want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by hearing with faith?
3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now going to be made complete by the flesh?

Galatians 3:10-11 (HCSB)
10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written: Everyone who does not continue doing everything written in the book of the law is cursed.
11 Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live by faith.

I found a very old Picture where the ARTIST understood the History of the MAGI. He pictures the Arrival of the Magi with their ARMED TROOP ESCORT, as they arrived at Jerusalem. And HAROLD must have PANICKED, as his Army was away at a WAR, and all he had at that time was his PALACE GUARD.

Not sure, but it could be at the Vatican.

By the way, my way of Setting the Record Straight, is also My Way of Saying:

MERRY CHRISTMAS

VCO,
I'm not arguing this.
If someone is so sure about who the magi were and where they come from,,,how come every biblical scholar does not know this?

Is the word magi even correct?

It matters not....what matters is that they found who they were looking for.

Some of what you say is repeated here.....but I'd say that no one knows for sure who the magi were, and I leave it at that...

You are right.

I matters not.

God led, they followed they found they saw they believed then God led them away down a different path they walked in.

Funny how God does that.

They came and bowed to the feet of Jesus.....I would say they were wise ;)

I always have said....everyone's knees will crack and you will bow down to Jesus as Lord and God....might as well do it voluntarily now instead of being forced to do it!!

I will be rooting for you. At the current pace of this thread that would be sometime in the spring.
Hahha....hilarious......more good news from the Southern Front.....I sat at a table yesterday with a Die Hard Roman Catholic family and was allowed to lay bare what it means to be justified by the blood of Christ, the use of Perfect/Aorist tense Greek verbs in the, the complete forgiveness found in Christ, what it really means to be saved and how God can see us as justified in his sight even while we fail and sin every day in some form or fashion.......what a moment......!

Good luck with that one.....he conflates justification with sanctification and then embellishes faith with some Cainologist law/commandment keeping, working for drivel into some pseudo religious salvic soup with no power to save a flea, much less a man......
