OK at least you have a position. You discount 1 Cor 13:8 but you have a position.

I would say that believing what is in the word of God is sufficient. Experience is very subjective whereas Gods word is unchangeable and eternal.

But the word of God says DO NOT FORBID SPEAKING IN TONGUES. Which you do on an all too regular basis. So, as the list I have compiled on you clearly demonstrates, believing the word of God is NOT sufficient for you.

Without an experience it's tradition or religion. It's just head knowledge.

.
Exactly. If your tools never leave the toolbox, what good are they?

Wow, I said I was being evasive and playing around.

Well maybe I am a cessationist maybe not, I said I do believe God continues to heal, tongues is not something I have really thought about. I guess I will first have to do some expert research.:) however I have way more other pressing issues first, but I can put tongues on the list.

No I do not belong to a church, as in denomination, but I have a fellowship group, and you know what else we as a group research together as good Bereans should!

Yup Goodbye. Have a good weekend

you are being evasive...evasive was not used as a label...rather as a verb

this thread is about speaking in tongues, so do you or not believe that gift is for today?

hope that is plain enough

is the expression I am not a church person somehow supposed to make me think you are being made to answer what you can't?

in the other thread, you presented yourself as someone conducting expert research and coming to expansive conclusions...not being a church person (whatever that is) did not seem to bother you then

not buying it

anyway...gone for the week-end now...thankfully

satan does indeed falsify tongues, just as he tries to defraud everything of God. The fact that satan does this indicates that there are true tongues - else satan wouldn't bother with it. Discernment is the key, not tossing the baby with the bathwater.
Exactly. The ministry of satan is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The fact that satan spends so much time talking believers out of the manifestation of the Spirit (and I'm not talking about tongues only, I'm talking about all shown in 1 Cor 12:8-10 --- word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues) --- anyway, the fact that satan spends so much time talking believers out of the manifestation of the Spirit serves only to reveal there is much benefit to be gained by the body of Christ in the utilization of the manifestation.

satan has basically robbed God's children of the profit God had in mind for the body of Christ.

Believers need to stand firm in faith, knowing that Father would never do anything to them to bring them harm, He wants only goodness for us. When God energizes the manifestation, it is not to cause alarm, it is to bring benefit to the body of Christ. But most believers are afraid of their own Father. Such a shame. :(

Religiousness? Right so we should just ignore all of 1 Co 14 because you say so.
You must rightly divide the word of truth.

I'm not suggesting you ignore 1 Cor 14. I saying that your understanding of 1 Cor 13:8 forces an incorrect understanding of 1 Cor 14.

Let's cut to the chase. Are tongues ecstatic utterances or human languages?

I don't slap people. they generally manage to do a good job of that themselves

who do you think YOU are slapping when you say believers who speak in tongues are doing so by the power of the devil?

you cannot say you accept this gift but not that gift

the Holy Spirit will never say certain gifts have ceased...He would never say that

so who are the people who try to excise certain gifts actually listening to?

the rhetoric that I slapped you is total nonsense

you are trying to defend something that cannot be defended
Accusing me of denying the Holy Spirit is a backhanded slap not only against me but against the Lord Who saved me. Your protestations of innocence are invalid. I'm not going to hold it against you.

Now do you believe that tongues are ecstatic utterances or human languages?

Simple Definition of ecstatic
  • : very happy or excited : feeling or showing ecstasy

They are neither. They are utterances of the Holy Spirit, Who speaks to things we know nothing of.

1 Corinthians 14:39 (NASB)
[SUP]39 [/SUP] Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues.
Yes it was one of the many manners God spoke through up until the last revelation was given to John with the closing of all scripture all new prophecy has ceased.

Today if any man say lo is Christ speaking in a tongue we are to believe not. The elect will not be deceived they will not add the the now perfect word of God. It is sealed up till the end of time.tongues today is a false way to prove one has the Holy Spirit there is no outward sign that would indicate a person is born.A new heart and spirit that desires to do His will yes.

Mat 24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

I think every language must have some syntax and logic.

If you hear some "ga ga ga ga!" sounds (yeah, I have heard many of such "tongues") you can be sure it is not any language.
This does indeed make perfect sense if one looks a the development of language in all areas, even in Japanese while they do not use the alphabetic system, using a very different symbol system there still is a very logical pattern in place in their oral speech.

I believe God gave humans language, many researchers do support that it is an innate ability present at birth (barring any brain damage) it would seem logical that human language is a reflection of the spiritual.

Glossalia does come across like a fluid like speech that lacks any distinct syllables or patterns. Very interesting point. Thank you.

Ever heard of Holy Laughter, there are many that definitely believe in it, people will laugh uncontrollable all through a service.

They say this is a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Slapping is not the order connected with the notion of tongues today . Falling back, slain in the Spirit is by someone putting their hand on the forehead . Falling back simply mean a person is under the judgement of God.

I have heard of laughter, more often groanings, but the word 'uncontrollable' makes me nervous. 'Out of control' is generally not of God, since He is a God of order and Paul tells us tongues should be orderly.

I have been in services where the joy of the Lord was there and people were laughing. It is totally legitimate. I have never heard of it called a gift of the Holy Spirit though.

Certainly there are people that try to mimic this joy in the Lord and do some things in the flesh but it doesn't negate the reality of the true joy of the Lord and it does manifest itself sometimes in laughter.

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit within us. The kingdom of God is with us and Paul says that righteousness and joy and peace are a part of it.

Job 8:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] "He will yet fill your mouth with laughter And your lips with shouting.

Psalm 126:1-3 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]
When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

[SUP]3 [/SUP] The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

The Lord Himself loves to laugh.

Psalm 2:4 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.

Have you ever been in a situation where people start laughing and then other people start laughing for no reason?

Here is a youtube video of it. It's hilarious. It does happen....laughter and joy are a sign of the kingdom of God.....:)
