Growing up, I was told all masturbation was a sin.

Matthew 5:28 says "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

To me, this means Porn/Masturbation is a sin.

My question is, is it a sin to masturbate while thinking or looking at your wife? (not at porn)

I mean, when my wife is not willing or able to be intimate with you (For example; time of the month), is it ok?
Am I allowed to lust over my wife?
have you ever heard of this

Blue balls” is the slang term for epididymal hypertension. It refers to aching or painful testicles. Some people may experience this symptom after sexual arousal that does not result in orgasm. It usually resolves soon after, but ejaculation may bring relief.

So basically doctors are saying a person may get aching balls known as epididymal hypertension (blue balls) aching balls. if they don't relieve them selfs through masterbation.

Doctors say for some people it can be extremely painful like the fealing of having your balls squashed 😊.

Then there's the terminology blue ball stiff neck.
Which doctors say a person can be come highly embarrassed having to walk around all day with a bulge in there pants untill they relieve there discomfort of blue balls.

Lust is what it is ,ungodly .
Bible says 1 Corinthians 9:27
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified

Here's something somewhat related to the thread.Circumcision is like a sign. It's a parting/unveiling,in the same way it is with your hair. When you part the covering, you are parting/tearing the curtain veil.
I think it does relate to the thread, as I've read that uncircumcised males are much more prone to masturbation. Most know that circumcision also has other health benefits, both for males and their future wives.

I'm not sure it's similar to parting hair, though. In the bible, I thought uncircumcision/foreskin symbolised uncleanliness or rejection (or even death). Even being bald was never seen as unclean (or dead!)

Well, porn and masturbation aren't the same thing. Photographs have only been around since the 1800's, and Internet porn became a thing in the 1990's. Do you think no one masturbated before that?

I don't think we should condemn, for example, aging marriage couples doing stuff to themselves to get themselves ready to perform...certainly not to each other.

I'm saying that the water alone doesn't lead to life.A man splilling his seed instead of laying with his wife is a sin.In the spiritual sense he is denying the blood.Scripture says not to deny your wife,or don't deny your husband.
A little biology lesson here. No blood comes out unless there is something seriously wrong with a man's health.

I would imagine most married men who do this wouldn't do so unless their wives wanted intercourse less frequently than they do. But I don't know the statistics. If a man goes long enough, his body might 'spill seed' at night without his doing anything to cause it. Maybe that just happens to younger men. I don't know. I've been married over 20 years and it hasn't been an issue.

But I have heard that it is a thing now for men to get addicted to porn and masturbation, who have trained their bodies to last a very short time. They 'take care of themselves' then they might turn down the real thing when their wives express an interest, denying their wives. I think a man should regularly initiate/offer if the wife isn't the type to do so, not just respond to requests, as a matter of good sexual ethics and male leadership, also. If a man is doing this to himself such that it gets to the point where the wife has to chase him, that's not a good thing for the marriage. And of course, he shouldn't be yielding his eyes to look with lust at other women. That is a sinful thing to do.

Onan's sin was not fulfilling his duty to raise up a son for his brother. The "spilling of seed" was merely the method by which he committed his sin.

For a married couple today, there is no such responsibility, and therefore no prohibition.
Is 'Be fruitful and multiply' a command, or just merely a blessing.

If it's a command, then we should try to have three kids per couple, or more, I suppose--though we are dependent on God's provision for that also. If your widowed (or widowered?) then how many kids you have would be determined by kids from previous marriages. If she's a widow and has one and you are a widow and have 2, then two more would be multiplying.

And if you can't get pregnant, you just keep on working at with great diligence it until one of you dies.

Trigger warning-- I plan to address the topic of the OP. The Bible addresses sexual issues, so I consider it as an area that may be addressed by Christians.

I don't see where the Bible teaches, 'Thou shalt not masturbate.' I am not going to tell people to do it, but I'm not going to tell some young person that if they feel like they are going to explode down below and do that to alleviate physical pressure or whatever and pent up hormonal frustration that they are sinning. We need to keep a good conscience toward God.

Now, in modern Greek, the word for 'malakos' in I Corinthians 6 is or includes masturbation, but I do not think that was the case back in the first century. It could be one of the things malakos did is use their hands on other men, so that's how it shifted in meaning. I don't know.

In the Old Testament, it mentions a man in the camp having an emission and being unclean and washing his whole body with water, as I recall. But any man who had sex with his wife and 'finished' would also need to go through the same ritual. If he didn't complete, I suppose he would still be clean. Being unclean and sinning weren't exactly the same thing. Israelites were supposed to reproduce. It's presented as a blessing. Having sons and daughters was commanded to those going into captivity in Babylon-- increase and do not decrease. Married couples who had sex were unclean until evening. I would imagine that would have encourage sexual activity to occur a hour or two before sundown, so they could be unclean for a short period of time, but I don't know of any evidence that Hebrew strategically timed it that way. That would probably be prime working time during the planting and harvesting seasons.

Anyway, masturbation would have made Israelite men unclean if they finished the act until they washed and the sun set down. I don't there are any uncleanness restrictions when it comes to female release. Orthodox Judaism encourages men finishing in an act of intercourse and some interpretations are rather non-restrictive otherwise. There were voices in Roman Catholicism forbidding all kinds of sexual acts, even intercourse in positions beside missionary, but I don't know if those were ever considered official teaching. Augustine was rather influential, and I think he was opposed to female superior position, probably based on an etymological fallacy, that that puts a woman in some kind of superior position. He was one of the celibates who actually had had some sexual experience with a mistress or concubine during his BC days.

The Bible doesn't say 'spilling seed' is forbidden or sinful. It was for Onan, but there was a specific issue of his not wanting to raise up seed to his brother. The idea that the sin was 'wasting seed' seems a bit of a stretch, though that seems to be the reasoning of Roman Catholicism, maybe streams of Orthodox Judaism also. Proverbs warns about men spilling waters in the street, but there is the context there of not having sex with another man's wife.

Another line of thought is that if masturbation is a steam pressure release valve for lusts, physical urges, physical pressure, etc., then why doesn't Paul suggest it in I Corinthians 7, instead of just offering marriage as a solution for preventing fornication? I suppose that is a question a young man might think of if he is worked up. But I wonder burning in 'It is better to marry than to burn' has to do with a lot more than physical urge for release that can be so intense among the young. There may be a burning to be loved, for that to be expressed physically, for the whole physical and psychological experience of marriage and sexuality, maybe the desire to have children, the desire for companionship, the desire to have children. All of these could contribute to the desire to fornicate. Still, Paul does not _recommend_ masturbation.

It can also be difficult for a young married man, physically, to stop having sex during that one week out of the month if he is used to very frequent amorous activity with his wife, and he gets used to that level of frequency, so I can understand the concerns of the OP. I since Hebrew men were unclean if they touched their wives or their wives touched them, certain things were off the table. I don't think Gentiles are that restricted. Gentiles were driven out of the land for uncovering their wives nakedness. A man can keep his wife's skirt on, and not uncover her nakedness. I don't see spilling seed as a restriction in scripture, if a wife wants to be generous in other ways if a man is tempted to handle his predicament himself.

But if it's an issue of a wife or husband touching one another by hand, or even handling oneself before or during the act as part of the overall experience of intercourse or leading up to it, or something like that, I don't see where we have a leg to stand on condemning that. Foreplay can help prevent damage and pain.

Tell me about it.

I struggle with that and it is very painful.
For me it does not resolve unless there is ejaculation and even that is painful.

It's a shame when you ask someone a simple question and then get a dislke from someone else.

It seems like that they have not got the balls to answer the question (pardon the pun, couldn't help myself, double entendre) and say why they don't agree.

Maybe a Catholic?

It seems said person is doing it to others as well.

Shame.

Family planning is between them and the Lord, not something to be imposed from outside, and it has nothing to do with the OP. ;)

Love has nothing to do with it. Lust is the same as the sin of adultery, because the wife belongs to another man. It is similar to coveting, but while coveting relates to another man's possessions, adultery relates to lying with another man's wife. King David may have loved Bathsheba, but it was adultery when he took her because she was Uriah's wife. It was lust when he looked at her with desire, because she was Uriah's wife. How well or how poorly he did or didn't treat her has nothing to do with his sin - she was another man's wife, and he treated her as his own. That is the sin.
David absolutely lusted after Bathsheba who was another man's wife. What he did was despicable.

For those who suffer from this, does this happen after making out, or more, with a girl? Does it come about if you are watching a movie you shouldn't, or does it just happen also a period of time, or you just wake up in the morning with it for so no reason?

I read if you try to pick up a car by the bumper like you are doing squats, it can help. Maybe you could due it with weights.

it happens because of a build up of access sperm that wants to release mostly, but it can also happen other ways too

Normally when the sperm starts to come out by its own accord after 5 days to a week.

Aching balls starts and because the sperm is coming out by its own accord that's when erection starts too that can be extremely painful because the erection will be stinging and saw because of how long it can last.
