1 Peter 5:8-9 New International Version (NIV)

8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Romans 13 New International Version (NIV) Submission to Governing Authorities

13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

1 Corinthians 6:10 — “Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

1 Corinthians 5:11 — “But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.”

1 Corinthians 8:9-13 New International Version (NIV)

9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols? 11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12 When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.
New Living Translation
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world.”

“Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God” (James 4:4).
Jesus Himself said, “The world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world” (John 17:14-16).
Basically, I live in sin and am constantly going back and forth to God and to sin. I understand many things. I have Marijuana and scripture shows me that it's wrong to possess it and to smoke it. I could sell my weed and my pipe or I could throw it away and try not to do that again. What is the Godly thing to do?
Keep looking at the WORD of GOD and the WORD of GOD will deliver you.
It does you no good to be religious and your heart Is not changed.
GOD looks at the heart, man looks at how you act outwardly.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Numbers-35-31/ I would have to say weed falls in the category of every green thing.. I think that personally I would try to stop of you know it is bad. However it is and can be used medicinal so I think of I where you just pray about it think about it. I actually think if people can benefit from it medically it should be fine.

What in the Bible tells you that it is wrong to posses it or smoke it?
There are many Scriptures advocating a sober lifestyle.
Being regularly stoned on pot does NOT count as sobriety.
There are more than the following, but surely these should suffice?

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled
and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

1 Thessalonians 5:6
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.

Galatians 5:21
Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you
before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 1:13
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your
hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

Romans 12:3
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

1 Timothy 3:2
Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

Ephesians 5:18
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Titus 2:2
Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.

Titus 2:6
Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.

1 Timothy 3:2-3
Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Timothy 3:11
Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things.

2 Timothy 4:5
As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

1 Corinthians 5:11
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

Isaiah 5:11
Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after
strong drink, who tarry late into the evening as wine inflames them!

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

Romans 13:13
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.

Titus 2:12
Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and
to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1 Thessalonians 5:8
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the
breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

1 Corinthians 8:9
But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

1 Corinthians 6:10
Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 23:31
Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly.

1 Timothy 3:3
Not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Thessalonians 5:6-8
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

1 Peter 4:3
For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.

Romans 14:21
It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.

Titus 2:11-12
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

Hosea 4:11
Whoredom, wine, and new wine, which take away the understanding.

Proverbs 23:20-21
Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard
and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.

Ephesians 4:27
And give no opportunity to the devil.

You have several great things posted to help you. If your consious is telling you it is wrong then listen to it. If you feel disgusted and like you sining then you need to get straight with yourself and God on this. You can get 400 honest answers and that will not matter because the answer you seek you already know your just looking for justification.

When you first quit don't expect immediate deliverance through prayer from the feelings of adjustment, you just have to wait it out for awhile and things will get relatively better day by day (some days are bad but you would have those smoking like a chimney anyway).

Your body is a temple and you can't serve two masters. God doesn't want you violating the temple or drowning out his voice with chemical crutches to cope with emotional and mental distress. You are more likely to open, remember, and understand The Bible when you have a clear mind too.

We have desires to get high because our lives, minds, and bodies are out of order. Coping with chemicals gives you a false sense of yourself, and your problems causing your urges remain. Quit and change yourself with God, it will be permanent (as long as you remember and keep the law), and their will not be negative side effects (only positive) and you will just have to pray to get back in line instead of acquiring and smoking more.

Matthew 11

27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Rest in Jesus. He brings peace to our souls. He brings us to Father where we are held close. Such joy to be found in the bosom of the Father.

Surely the answer to the question is in the second sentence of your post....
I get that it says your body is a temple treat it as such. It does not say don't smoke weed. If using a substance like weed or medication or anything like that goes in our body then we are all failing to keep our temple clean..

What in the Bible tells you that it is wrong to posses it or smoke it?

Our body is a temple of Christ. It's not ours to own, it's ours to look after the best we can for Christ. From saving ourselves for marriage, to the best healthy food, to exercise, it's our responsibility to maintain ourselves in the most natural, healthy way possible in order to fulfill His will for ours lives and be of a christian benefit to others accordingly.

Does everything have to be about you? Marijuana can be used for hemp, which has nothing at all to do with using it to get high... Hemp can replace wood pulp in making paper, or be used to make clothing etc.

Okay point made if this is the case we need to be more careful what we eat and put in our bodies.

Use you brain buddy!

There are plenty of plants out there for you to eat or smoke that will kill you very quickly!

Marijuana will do that too (as a physician I know what I am talking about).
Apart from the long term risks of smoking marijuana like a multitude of cancers and obstructive lung disease, the shorter term problems like acute psychotic episodes and death resulting from psychosis.
Then we have the well known bridge-effect of people moving on from marijuana to other substances that lead to death from any number of causes!

Harmless it is NOT.

Keep the law? What? I quit smoking pot and I quit smoking cigarettes with no cravings AT ALL when I gave it to God. Of which law do you speak?

Hello jenniferand2,

Just FYI,

"The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk. Furthermore, they did not repent of their murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft.

"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The two words in the scriptures above is the word "pharmakeia, which is where we get the English word Pharmaceutica from," translated as "sorcery." Drugs were/are used in relation to casting spells and incantations. But I believe here it is also referring to recreational drug users, as a means of altering ones spiritual perception.

pharmakeia: the use of medicine, drugs or spells
Original Word: φαρμακεία, ας, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: pharmakeia
Phonetic Spelling: (far-mak-i'-ah)
Short Definition: magic, sorcery, enchantment

5331 pharmakeía (from pharmakeuō, "administer drugs") – properly, drug-related sorcery, like the practice of magical-arts, etc. (A. T. Robertson).
