In Leviticus 23, the weekly Sabbath is mentioned first, in the detailed list of "Feast" of the LORD. (KJV)

So what does "Feast" mean?

It is an appointment with God. It is a day to spend in fellowship with God, and also like-minded believers.

Who does not want a day to spend with God???
(a day that He chose, as the appointed time)

We were told it is bondage. We were told it was for the "Jews". We were told it does not apply to us.
We were lied to.
I entirely agree mike because the OT is the Basis or foundation for the NT, the ROOTS of God's teaching for all mankind - beginning with Israel and now 'including all who believe and obey !
But we should not forget that CHANGES were made to the law by/through Jesus Christ so we can now 'worship in Spirit, Love, Mercy and compassion for people who are willing but SLOW to learn God's ways. OT laws are strict and to the letter which do not allow changes.
Please note that 'change to the law does NOT mean the law was abolished (as some think) but that GRACE has bought us TIME to change our ways and we are 'pardoned from the 'immidiate penalty the OT would have put us under....also NT teaching makes it easier for people to 'observe the law in a Spirit of love and no longer in the strict adherence of the old physical ways.

But the old law did have the purpose of teaching 'Obedience, which today is sadly lacking in people.

Read Ex 20v9-11.
Can you say everything re a subject in just one sentene ?
IF man was clever enough then Ex 20v8 WOULD be all that needs to be said...but apparently GOD knew we were not ! and even 'expanded explanation seems to leave man in a quandry.

yes, I can agree with that!

and each person decides what the appointment will be... what it means...

one person will go to a building with other Christians... another will go hang gliding

not sure about that. not against it. I just don't know. probably hang gliding would go more under the category of doing something for your enjoyment. just my opinion.

That would be about right. Does not scripture say something about - not doing your own thing in GOD's holy time ?
How is it people don't know that ?

If i made you a house and this house was made for you not you for the house. and said i'm lord of that house. Do you have the right to bulldoze it and change it into a motorhome?

if the ox is in the ditch ....
yes, good question...maybe we behave more like animals than we realize !
perhaps we also need to consider what God does with animals ?
as far as I know God has no problems pulling an Ox out of a ditch on the Sabbath ! but I would not like being a Goat making my own decisions and meeting THEIR end Mat 25v41 !

There is nothing wrong with attending a church service on the Sabbath. However, if you faith is placed in keeping Sabbath, then there arises a problem. Is it what you do, or is what Christ did on the Cross? Which is more important? Where should are faith be placed? The Question is, what is the object of your faith? The work of the Cross or the work that you do?

Let's think about this a minute. How does one have "faith in keeping the Sabbath"? I am not even sure what that means.

Faith, in my opinion, is trusting that God will keep His promises. I think in the modern church, the word "faith" is abused somewhat.

God didn't promise eternal salvation for keeping the Sabbath. So I can't have "faith" that such a promise will be kept, because it was never given.

However, time after time, He shows us how important His Sabbath is. Why would we want to reject it?

A good example of faith - Abraham.

In Genesis 22, God told Abraham to go and sacrifice his son, Isaac. (a very dramatic turn of events!)
However, this is what most people might not think about. I think ole Abraham probably smiled a little on the inside.
You see, God had already promised Abraham, even before Isaac was born, that through Isaac, and Isaac's seed, the world would be blessed. (Genesis 17)

Abraham was absolutely positive that God would keep that promise. So Abraham knew that even if he killed Isaac, somehow God would bring him back to life, in order to keep that promise. (Heb 11)
Abraham had faith in that promise.

So, when someone says a person is placing their "faith" in keeping the Sabbath, it is just a wrong use of the word "faith".

You forget that Abraham also had an elder son.

"And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation." -- El Shaddai, to Abram, Genesis 17:20

Ishmael was the father of twelve princes, howevr his mention has nothing to do with the promise made to Abraham through Isaace. Abraham was given the Gospel also.

Ishmael is the child of the law while Isaace is the child of promise. Read how Sarah and Hagar represent the two Jerusalems. Perhaps this will clear up all for any so curious on the subject.
