By my logic you will notice in previous post's I said "not always" and there are "exceptions to the rule". Like Rachel said though...USUALLY false doctrines come in packs. I actually own a study Bible by a guy who believed in soul sleep.
no,i was just making the point you cant say a sect is a cult based on the founder

Yes I agree the Bible does say that, it does not say man was given a soul. Since man became a soul through God giving a body + the breath of life then do we still have a soul without either?
you did it again...

the verse does -not- say that the man became a soul...it says that he became a -living- soul...

so it is bad reasoning to argue on the basis of this verse that the man was not a soul before the breath of life was given to him...because the passage can also be read to mean that he was -already- a soul but just not a -living- soul...he then became a living soul when he was giving a living body...

you are right to say that humans are not given souls...we are souls that are given living bodies!

the bible also says however, that the longest gods spirit will stay with man is 120 years, so unless they are saved, wont they go unconsious again?

(18) And he that killeth

All the words in
red are translated from the same word as soul. So then according to this what is the soul?

Soul in the New Testament, words highlighted in red

Matthew 10:28
(28) And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the
soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 10:39
(39) He that findeth his
life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Ephesians 6:6
(6) Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from
the heart;

Philippians 1:27
(27) Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one
mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

All the words in
red are translated from the same word as soul so then to put all of these verses together from both the OT and NT what is the soul?

you really just hurt your case here...all of these verses make it clear that the hebrew and greek words can mean several different things depending on the context...

which makes the contexts you insist on ignoring doubly vital for a proper understanding of the human soul...

Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
This does seem to imply that once you die(first death) your soul is not killed.

My friend it seems that your mind is still open and you are searching which is good. Just keep digging and let the Holy Spirit be your guide.

I thought maybe he did and changed his mind before he died? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm honestly not sure.

Because you insist on using nothing but your own opinion it shows that your doctrine is not based on the Bible But your own opinion. I asked you to show me what is a soul according to those texts. The Bible does not need an interpreter. Can you show your doctrine without giving any comments? Using only the Bible for your comments?

martin luther was very famous for this actually, this is martin on soul sleep
As soon as thy eyes have closed shalt thou be woken, a thousand years shall be as if thou hadst slept but a little half hour. Just as at night we hear the clock strike and know not how long we have slept, so too, and how much more, are in death a thousand years soon past. Before a man should turn round, he is already a fair angel

the bible also says however, that the longest gods spirit will stay with man is 120 years, so unless they are saved, wont they go unconsious again?
in that passage God actually says that his spirit will not -contend- with man forever...in other words he is not going to continue to tolerate their wickedness while calling them to repentance indefinitely...eventually he would have to destroy them...

the 120 years is usually interpreted as the length of time God was allowing before he was going to destroy the earth with a flood...

I hold to this view as well.

right the death of the body and the death of the soul are two completely different things...the soul does not cease to exist when the breath of life leaves the body...

ok, but i still belive that once the body dies, the spirit goes back to god, so unless your soul is also going to god as well, it will be unconsious.

my belief is based on the bible...your own scripture references are working against your doctrine...which i simply keep pointing out whenever you post them...

You still have not answered the question. What is the soul according to those texts? The Bible never links the words eternal and soul together.

It is true you do point it out But, with your own opinion.
