Grace, have you read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation with no commentary.. page upon page?

Many times. I am almost at the end of reading it fully through this year in chronological order.

Have you ever done that? It's fascinating

I say this prayer every morning before I start my work day. I also have conversation all day long with God. I see absolutely nothing spiritually wrong with saying this prayer to my heavenly father as Jesus taught us to do.
I use it mostly before sleep :) First church prayed it 3x a day - in the morning, in the middle of day and in the evening.

Only this one prayer is from our Lord given to us to pray, so it is a great blessing to do it.

That's great! I wonder how many people actually say the exact prayer every day? That might be interesting to see.

Here is a post from another member of CC talking about the Lord's Prayer. It should be called the disciples prayer during the transitional time before the church age came. and I agree with this statement.

Ok, so you have another CC member from the 21st century...

The problem is, that the first Church prayed the prayer, the very first, almost apostolic one.

It also continues so in the RCC, reformation churches and in the Orthodox church. Its very strange to "discover" something they all could not see, you know.

I never went to a church that recited it - well I went to a Catholic church one time and I think they did it. Not sure. I have not recited it since the early 80's myself.

I have no qualms if people want to pray it or recite it 100 times a day - that's between them and their Father how they interact with each other.

I'd be interested in seeing the sources of where the apostolic church recited the prayer. If you have them could you send them to me? Thanks

It's funny to me that no epistle ever once mentions this prayer.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Grace777x70 again

Thanks for the reminder Grace. I can spit off insulting words too if I don't guard my heart.

I pray it and just change "our" to "my" etc.

I also shift between "today's bread" and "tomorrow's bread" (because the Greek word is uncertain in this).

Then I shift between "forgive me my sins" and "forgive me my debts", sometimes, because this differes in Luke and Matthew.

It's funny to me that no epistle ever once mentions this prayer.
No epistle ever also mentions Mary Magdalene and hundreds of other facts from Gospels... its not a proof of anything, IMHO.

Yeah, you can check for example in Didaché (written in the 1st century):

"And do not pray as the hypocrites, but as the Lord commanded in his Gospel, pray thus:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done, as in Heaven so also upon earth;
give us today our daily bread,
and forgive us our debt as we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One,
for thine is the power and the glory for ever.

Pray thus three times a day."

Didaché 8:2

Anyway...we are all free in Christ to speak to our loving Father as we desire. Never allow anyone to "lord it over your faith".

I'm off to do some "juicing". It's great stuff for being healthy!

Side note: Actually there is a lady called "The Juice Lady" who has written about juicing that is a Christian and she ahs a fabulous story about how Jesus came and took her out of a house after she was almost beaten to death by a thug.

All of us can do that. The flesh is deceiving! But we forgive and walk on in the love of the Lord.

That's why I am not interacting with those that continue to deceitfully say things that have not been said even after knowing the difference and of course the same applies with those that slander others in the body of Christ.

1 Cor. 5:11 and Rom. 16:17 will help to guard our hearts.

Yes... I was broken in to pieces... and made New by the Grace of GOD.

Did you ask for the Truth to be given to you?

I also wanted to publicly acknowledge and thank trophimus for his respectful behavior while on this thread. Even though we had some differences of opinions in some areas - we still were respectful in our posts and interaction together.

So, it is possible to not agree on some subjects and yet still maintain a Christ-like behavior towards one another in the body of Christ. This glorifies our Lord and Father.

Well who gives you or anyone else the right to declare that the Lord's Prayer doesn't apply believers today?

This is exactly the type of behavior that comes when people deceitfully say something that is NOT said.

No one has said that "nothing Jesus taught before His resurrection applies to us".

What is really being said is that we must rightly divide the word and filter all scripture through the finished work of Christ.

I found it recited in the Lutheran church, they also recited the Apostolic creed of faith after that.

Calvin made many chapters about this prayer in his Institutes, so I suppose calvinists have also no problem with it.

RCC and the Orthodox surely do it too.

So I think it makes a vast majority of Christians.

When I was going to pentecostal churches, I met the opinion that we should not pray it, because the kingdom already came... practically the same reasoning you use, so I suppose this is the source...

"This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name..."

Also in Greek there is nothing implying its just a pattern and not a real prayer to pray.
you never pray anything else then I assume

Me too!

I always ask for the Father to give me eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to me and that He would reveal Jesus to me. I do this about 6 or 7 times a day.

I have often said that we are just as dependent on the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ in the scriptures to us as Mary was dependent on the Holy Spirit to conceive Jesus in her womb.

You have not received the Holy Spirit Baptism yet then?

You assume wrong :)

I pray the Lord's prayer regularly and after that my personal additions.

I would liken it to Bible and other literature. Bible is of God's authority, but it does not mean I do not read anything else.

Grace... why not use the Lord's Prayer... you have not recited it since the 80's which is your decision.. but how about you believe and use the prayer given by Our Lord and Saviour? I know you are seeking the Truth by your own admission... oh May you fall in love by coming back from all those people that teach you not the Truth that will set you free.
