This is what the forgiveness of sins is about in the New Covenant....scripture always has the final say..

1 John 2:12 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake.

have been forgiven = perfect passive

perfect =
The perfect tense expresses perfective action. Perfective action involves a present state which has resulted from a past action. The present state is a continuing state; the past action is a completed action. It is continuously in the present

passive = mood = action is happening to you....you are not doing it

Without a doubt this verse says that the sins are forgiven from a past action that remains in a continuous state and that was put on them....not something they did

Here are some more scriptures on the forgiveness of God thru the precious blood of our Lord!..

Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

We have redemption = present continuous action...so this means we have present continuous forgiveness of our sins...and look...that hyper-grace stuff shows up again!...it's all according to our loving Father's grace that He has given to us in Christ our Lord.

Colossians 1:13-14 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
[SUP]14 [/SUP] in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Same thing here too...present continuous action = forgiveness of sins

Redemption!..we have been bought with the precious Blood of Jesus... Let's honor His work!

Brethren ...we have a great salvation in our Lord!

You don't think our Lord Jesus serious when He forewarned what He will say to those who work iniquity that say to Him, "Lord, Lord..." and He closes the door upon those believers at His return? (Matt.7) Sounds like you didn't take Him seriously.
King James Bible
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

SO, At your "first" belief in Christ, he still doesn't know you? At what point does He know believers?

Those are not believers. He NEVER knew them...........unbelievers.

Nah, it means, "Boy, did I really mess up! I hate what I... did, and I... don't feel good about it (Holy Spirit convicting them), and I... want to make things right!"
THAT is the whole theme throughout the NT. We CANNOT make things right. Never could. Never will be able to. That's why Jesus came to do it for us, and asked us to believe that He had.

Then I don't want to hear what you talk to Jesus about when you do holy communion with Him, because that time period is not only about recognizing what He did for us on the cross, but also conversing with Him one-on-one as with a Counselor, and that includes repentance for misdeeds of our flesh.

I also wonder if you ever say the prayer He gave us to say through His Apostles, which includes asking Him forgiveness of OUR sins.

I believe you will find that it means, "I have realized my previous thinking about Christ was wrong, and I now choose to believe in what He said."
This is repentance . . .

Nah, it means, "Boy, did I really mess up! I hate what I... did, and I... don't feel good about it (Holy Spirit convicting them), and I... want to make things right!"
This is forgiveness . . . when you have wronged someone . . . this is 1 John 1:9 . . This restores fellowship/communion with the Father and his Son and within the body.

I must be a "partial Gnostic" . . . My salvation is due to my faith in Jesus Christ - That sets me within the household of God and within the body of Christ. I believe that NOTHING can mess with that!

But I do believe that we will sin again - and that is what we need forgiveness for - to restore our relationship to the POWER source, God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ - and also within the body - the fellowship with other believers. I have heard many say that "sin separates us from God" - we lose that connection - in order to restore that connection we need to be forgiven. I know that there are some that don't agree and that's okay - If they are OK with that stance and it sits well with them - there's not much you can say to sway them. I read that "past sins are forgiven" to me that is previous sins before I was born again. (Romans 3:25) The thing is - I do not ask forgiveness to restore my salvation . . . but to get me ungrounded! so that I have that open connection and can enjoy communication with my heavenly Father! And if this isn't correct - I really don't think God will necessarily care that I am asking forgiveness . . . .

I don't either. Do it all you feel you need to. All I am saying is don't try to teach new believers that their connection with their father is dependent upon their performance in TRULY demonstrating how much they feel like a worm. God didn't ask for that, and He doesn't need it. His own words are "I don't require sacrifice... I desire mercy."

I love Sargent De-Ceiver!..
That's a good friend. He and I are the same age. He is the production manager of our local Christian TV station. (We both spent years working as "carneys." He made those wooden signs, and my wife and I sold Roasted Almonds.)

You might want to go look that up.

He was not teaching them to beg for forgiveness. But, rather, He was explaining the Sheep & Goats thing to them..... In that He was telling them to understand that we are to forgive (show mercy to, and care for) others just as God cares for us and has shown mercy to us through His Son's sacrifice.

thank You Father for forgiving us our past sins upon our conviction/conversion - and
from this time forward...we pray that now and forever, we only desire to walk in obedience
to Your beautiful, Spiritual, Holy Commandments, and we pray fervently that we may
be worthy and strong and steadfast in the walk that You have layed before us, that we may
witness with confidence and humility the calling that out-shines the Son/sun...

Yeah, there is no one who could EVER convince him God's Grace is anything BUT radical. From a stoned-out hippie to one of the top guys in a Christian television network........ totally on fire for God!

How is asking forgiveness giving a sacrifice? How is asking forgiveness for wrongdoing saying I am a worm? I don't get it . . .

I never think of myself as a worm - I always think of myself as a child of God - one who occasionally does wrong and wants to ask forgiveness. If I do wrong to a brother or sister - I ask forgiveness . . . wouldn't I do the same for my heavenly Father? Asking forgiveness is a very humbling thing - it is admitting that I have done wrong and I apologize (not beg) - simple as that.

We ask it of other humans because they hold it against us..... as we humans do. But our Father told us that He let His son die for us so that sin would be defeated from that moment, on. Jesus cried out from that cross, "Father, forgive them." NOT: "Father, forgive them IF they prove their worthiness by doing something they will come to call "repenting" each and every time they do something wrong."
