11 It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Personally, I don't see unity in the faith, maturity, full Christ-likeness, doctrinal stability, Truth spoken in love as I believe it is meant to be. This simply makes me think that the gifts of these ministries must still be needed. Something to prayerfully consider at least out of a reverence for Christ's intended spotless bride.

The NAR paradigm for the church pulls many observers out of their theological comfort zones, and some of them are not reluctant to express their concerns in the strongest language possible. A number of them actually consider me a heretic!


A number of the observers pointed out that, in their research, they could not discover a formal NAR statement of faith. The reason for this is that none exists. We must keep in mind that the NAR is a movement; it is not an organization that one could join.

What has fascinated me as much as anything about the NAR is the widespread tolerance of differences in belief and practice.

in the current NAR wineskin there is less and less of this kind of theological baggage.


Many, but not all, NAR apostolic networks and ministries have formulated their own statements of doctrines and beliefs. Most of them would be written by the apostolic leader of the group, and they would be subject to revision when and if necessary.

The New Apostolic Reformation is a movement in Protestant Christianity largely associated with the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. The basic thesis asserts that God is restoring the lost offices of church governance, namely the offices of Prophet and Apostle.

The New Apostolic Reformation has Pentecostal and Charismatic origins, with those traditions' interpretations of the nature of the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit within each believer. Unlike some parts of Protestant Christianity, these include the direct revelation of Christ to each believer, prophecy, and the performance of miracles such as healing.

Although the movement regards the church as the true body of saved believers, as most Evangelical Protestants do, it differs from the broader Protestant tradition in its view on the nature of church leadership, specifically the doctrine of Five-Fold Ministry, which is based upon a non-traditional interpretation of Ephesians 4:11.

Forrest Wilder, an environment issues writer for the Texas Observer, describes the New Apostolic Reformation as having "taken Pentecostalism, with its emphasis on ecstatic worship and the supernatural, and given it an adrenaline shot."[1] Wilder adds that beliefs of people associated with the movement "can tend toward the bizarre" and that it has "taken biblical literalism to an extreme."[1]

The organization has become increasingly involved in political activism, with many of its leaders supporting the 2012 presidential candidacy of Rick Perry.[1]

C. Peter Wagner writes that "the majority of the new apostolic churches", such as his, observe "active ministries of... spiritual warfare".[2] As an example of members' "supernatural" abilities (as he calls them) he claims that God acted through him to end mad-cow disease in Germany.[3]

The New Apostolic Reformation traces its historical roots to late-twentieth-century American charismatic churches, and the earliest use of the moniker was by C. Peter Wagner[4] prompting journalists[1] to perceive him as de facto founder and leader.

It has received little attention in non-Charismatic or Pentecostal theological traditions. According to Wagner, “The second apostolic age began in the year 2001”, when, according to him, the lost offices of "Prophet" and "Apostle" were restored, in this age.

The New Apostolic Reformation has been connected to Kingdom Now Theology and has been called a "damnable heresy" by Marsha West of EmailBrigade.com.[6] Leaders such as Cindy Jacobs and Lou Engle have been criticized for what have been interpreted as homophobic or otherwise intolerant statements.[7]

i do know that in the earliest christian writings...and by 'earliest' i mean some that were even written while john was still alive...none of the authors ever names himself or any of his contemporaries as apostles...

ignatius of antioch...a disciple of john...openly states in his letters to the philadelphian church and to the roman church that he is not an apostle... in his letters to the trallian church and to the magnesian church he implies that the authority of the apostles had devolved onto the bishops and presbyters and deacons...

the closest any early christian writer came to assigning apostleship to a contemporary was when the writer of the account of ignatius' martyrdom said that ignatius was 'of an apostolic character'

also in the earliest christian writings the scriptural apostles...especially paul...are often referred to simply as 'the apostles'...as if this was a unique title that could only be understood as applying to them...

irenaeus of lyon...a disciple of polycarp of smyrna who was a disciple of john...writes in his anti gnostic treatise against heresies that the apostles are 'of more ancient date' than all the heretics...which seems to restrict the office of 'apostle' to the first century AD only

finally some of the earliest christian writers state that the church received the gospel from the apostles...which implies a distinction between the apostles and anyone currently present in the churches...

so it appears at least in practice that the apostolic office ceased when the scriptural apostles died

The NAR is making the SAME mistake as the 'super apostles' made during Paul's time.

They claimed to be on the same level as Paul. To which he rebukes them.

Do you see that? There were 'super apostles' in Paul's time wanting to be regarded just as Paul and the other apostles were. He boldly called them false apostles, deceitful workers and angels of light.
