You are attempting to bully me with errant doctrine.
...

Be not deceived God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth of that shall he reap. Gal 6:7
I would encourage you to give further thought to your accusation in light of the verse you quoted. What have you sown?

Jesus was asked to teach the apostles to pray. Jesus did not instruct them to pray in tongues. You are representing the scriptures in a fashion that assumes they say what they do not say. If you think that praying in tongues is efficacious then you are saying that it does not matter what you say to God because God doesn't care what is in your heart.

Why would Jesus teach them to pray in the Holy Spirit Gift of Tongues when the Holy Spirit will not be there for them until Jesus leaves?

Without the Holy Spirit, that type of praying is mocking and babble yabble!

Jesus is our example. We are to be conformed to His image. Jesus had the Holy Spirit descend upon Him when He came to John the Baptist. If Jesus had intended for them to pray in tongues He certainly would have taught it before He was crucified.

Where is the gain in the absence of knowledge? Why are we admonished to study and seek truth if something can be gained without knowledge?

Jesus called the Holy Spirit a comforter/Teacher/the list is amazing here. And what Jesus taught them the most was long prayers like the Pharisees did amount to nothing. He taught them to make it short and to the point. It would be the Holy Spirit who taught them the rest.

The Holy Spirit would only teach them from the word of God. The Holy Spirit teaches what He has heard and He does not add to or take away from the word of God.

There is no difference between the long prayers of the Pharisees and the repetitive prayers of the heathen and the proposition of praying in tongues without knowledge of what you are praying.

Praying in earnest for someone to come to know Christ as Savior or praying for a dear one to be healed from an infirmity cannot be accomplished without knowledge.

And yet, Jesus does not teach the Holy Spirit would give to each Believer a specific set of Gifts or Fruits of the Spirit. But somehow, the Holy Spirit did do that and there is no pre-written claims from Jesus this would happen. So that proves the Holy Spirit does MORE than you suggest.

Yes, here and there you've quoted Scripture, in between your mocking, criticism, derision, dismissal, and condemnation... all "for the cause of Christ". At least have the integrity to remove that hypocritical blab and just put your name.

wrong You for get the house of Cornelius Peter was sent to BY Jesus . remember not just a verse here and there of the Book of Acts all of it is contextual to the Holy Spirit. Just because Paul may have only event as you say it was not the only one.
Again, I know it is hard for you But 1 Corinthians chapter 12-14 is Paul teaching on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

1cor 12:1 " Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:"

You may not know this but the word "Ignorant" means unlearned. Which is direct evidence Paul taught on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Your bias is telling. You try to make false claim I am adding to the word of God while you remove it. Hypocrisy.
Now you want to try and cheapen the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to say that

" speaking in tongues is a very small gift."

Tongue is not a small gift, it is a gift of the Holy Spirit. You just don't like it because of your distain for those you disagree with. You attack RCC and other s yet you have not shown in the word of God where the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are not for today. Your last comment is too telling:

"If we would have this gift today and it would be from God we would not have this Discussion."

speak for yourself, if you would have this gift as many do today you would not be having this discussion.

You are bias.
Sorry, you told me that Paul is teaching this in the book of acts. And I asked where he does it. We have only that revealed what is found in book of acts. To tell me that Paul die more then revealed makes sense, but to take it as proof that Paul teaches in the book of acts baptism with the Holy Spirit and as Sign for it the gift of speaking in tongues is very unserious. Its your imagination. But even in no other of his letters he is teaching this.
And again in the from you mentioned chapters Paul was teaching that not every believer will get the gift of speaking in tongues. And he criticise the overvaluting the gift of speaking in tongues in the corinthian church.

I do not have this gift, but I got the gift of discerning the Spirit. And I know that behind this doctrine is an different Spirit, then the Holy Spirit.

Btw, you find in the bible an princip. It is almost the minority who is acting right. And the majority false a wrong way.
I know here in germany, almost all denominations are under influence if charismatic doctrines. 30 years ago this was not the case. For me an example, that something is going wrong. Even from my church they go for to teach about the Holy Spirit into an charismatic church. Says much to me.

Cs1, we will not come to an mind in this issue I suppose.
God bless you.

Wofwint,

The Catholic Church is the Church who stopped Speaking in Tongues and forced others to stop.
They pray to Mary, not Jesus
They pray to dead people called Saints
They use rosary Beads
They chant
They make the sign of the cross
They confess their sins to a priest pretending to be God.
They observe lent, Fat Tuesday, ash Wednesday, no meat on Fridays
They are as pagan as it gets in many of their beliefs

There are many things we do not do like the Catholics because their Doctrine is a False Doctrine.

We Baptize different than the Catholics.
We preach different than the Catholics.
We use a different Bible than the Catholics.
We use different terms for what we call the Church, a meeting, etc.
We speak in Tongues where the Catholics claim it has ended.

Do you follow Catholic ideas, Wolfwint?
Because if you deny Speaking in Tongues, you are doing like the Catholics.

I find it difficult to believe that you do not know these scriptures but I will provide some to satisfy your question.

Proverbs 4:1 ¶ Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I showed you John 14 in an earlier post. Holy Spirit leads into what He has heard of the Father. Jesus was obedient to the Father neither person of the Godhead acted in a capricious or self willed fashion.

The long ending of Mark 16 must be understood in light of the rest of scripture. The long ending of Mark cannot stand alone in isolation as it is of questionable origins. The tongues in Mark 16 are tongues that have received the newness of life from being born again. They are not to be taken as what errantly is seen as tongues in today's church.

This is for those who believe Gods word.

You use the word of God to attack those who you disagree with I prefer to use the Word of God to edify those who have faith. nothing in those verses you used say The gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased. Nor do they say they are not for today.

You were shown this many times if you were honest from other post like this one on the topic of Tongues gifts of the Holy Spirit you have asked the very same questions and they were answered to you the very same way, with the Word of God. it is in Acts 19 . Your insults and dismissing of what is recorded in Acts is telling to your character. You say you do not have this gift but you have the gift of discerning spirits ? No, you do not. You don't even know what that Gift is. LOL. And no you do not know the doctrine, What you know is you have seen those who have acted immature, in error, and in ignorance. You have looked at that and judge all on that FYI, that id not discernment LOl that is opinionated. FYI Germany is greatly over taken by the occult and hostel to the Christian faith in general. The Power of the Holy Spirit despite your understanding is still move on people. it is today you are fighting from flesh instead of faith.

Is that what Paul taught Timothy?

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

I can see you as a feel good kind of person sacrificing sound doctrine for popularity. Very common practice these days and one of the main reasons the church lacks virtue. Fear of telling the truth from the scriptures.

You simply do not want believe the scriptures that correct your unscriptural behavior.

May God give you a heart fit for repentance.

Paul told Timothy in First Timothy to teach godly edification in faith verse 4 chapter one.
Paul taught many things to Timothy and Titus.

Paul said to 1 tim 2:1 pray supplications, prayers, intercessions, andgiving of thanks be made for all men,
men everywhere pray with lifted hands.
Paul also instructed :
"Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.
1tim 4:14

In Second Timothy Paul again says to him:

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

What Gift? If not the one Paul spoke about the first Letter. Here is Paul teaching on that ye again. I guess you missed that huh?.

Paul also said:

2tim 3:16-17

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

FYI Paul was not speaking of the KJV when he said this He was talking about the Old Testament. Paul provide much instruction from the Holy Spirit and the use of the gifts that were given to Timothy by the laying on of hands sorry you did not see that.

I am not claiming anyone Catholic is not saved, first and foremost. It's hard for me to understand how they believe the Pope is actually God Himself in the form as the Catholic leader. Now however though, I have on a handful of occasions met a person and after departing thought to myself, I wonder if that was an Angel or God? But there is no way I can ever buy the Pope is God.

Saying that much ^, I find it interesting with the things we associate Catholics to them also being Holy Spirit filled. I can't imagine being filled with God's Holy Spirit and thinking that the practices and chanting and using prayer beads, and the many other paganistic idealism are of God. So, to hear claim they speak in Tongues does make me question what "spirit" these tongues are connected to.

As far as Azusa, I do not believe that was intended to happen by those preaching and teaching the Word of God. I believe they had an "Upper Room" like in the Book of Acts moment where they were of one mind, one accord, and the Movement of God was real. I am not claiming there was fire above their heads, but that they were as close being on the same page as in the Book of Acts since the Book of Acts took place. I believe in God's timing, knowing in a little over 100 years, where we are today, thinking Tribulation could begin any day now. That God poured out His Spirit for the final stretch.

Now, what some have done with that has made a total mockery. But not all of it, some of it still relates to that true moment on Azusa Street!
