This was before scripture replaced the Charismatic gifts.
Scripture doesn't replace the gifts it confirms it, God doesn't change and his word is set in stone.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
There are three different kinds of gifts, ministry manifestation and motivational the ministry gifts are the gifts we each excel in ministering or administering the truth and love of God
Ephesians 4:11-13
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Then you have the gifts of manifestation
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by [a]the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

And then the gifts of motivation
Romans 12:6-8
6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads,[a] with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

The Apostles distributed the gifts through their hands. The only other way they came was through the two outpourings. The gifts confirmed the Apostles' authority and the inclusion of the gentiles in salvation. The gifts vanished when the Apostles died.

That's silly. The vast majority of Scripture already existed when the gifts were poured out. Paul didn't spend three chapters expounding on the gifts so they would "be replaced" (or vanish, as you say in another post) a mere twenty-odd years later.

Scripture says that three (not all) of the gifts would cease, but there is significant disagreement on the timetable. Being dogmatic about it only causes division.

Does God speak? Yes. He says “My sheep hear my voice”. And he cannot lie. <--that means he still speaks and at least some still hear..

So... Have you heard his voice? If not, you should be asking sincerely why not, and how you can. But I recommend that you ask the one you can trust, not the ones you should have asked about before trusting them with your eternity. (You need to go to God, not man...not even me, if you REALLY want to know the truth.)
My understanding is limited on this topic from a scriptural point of view ... but I do know that God speaks "spirit to spirit" and often without even using a word. :)

And where does it say the gifts died with them? You say that scripture alone furnishes us correct? Then let it furnish you. You speak so highly of the scriptures yet you refuse to listen to them, you say that the gifts are gone and that God only speaks through the scriptures yet you don't see or understand them.

You cannot choose one or the other, if you truly believe what you say then listen to his voice. For your benefit the gifts are available, for his work and will they are alive and for the limitation of your growth and workings in his kingdom do you reject them. He gives each of us the spiritual gifts to be applied for his sake for all others and for us, the limitations you have enclosed yourself in are keeping you from reaching your full potential in Christ.

Here's what you need to prove. That tongues came in any other way besides an Apostle's hands. Or beside the two outpourings.

Seems your not as limited as you think my friend. that voice of the spirit you speak of is one of the most common but also the most intimate ways he speaks to us. A language without sound words without tongue words deeper than what the human tongue can even speak... that is what I like to call a language of the hearts.
Have you ever been in that still quiet place with him with that intimacy just soaking in him and his word? Have you ever relished just being in his presence? This is the most beautiful and intimate language with him, one where our hearts and his truly connect

And how would I prove that? The scriptures already have been presented to you yet you block you ears, so even if I presented scripture to prove it why would you listen?
If you are set in not listening to understanding then I cannot help you, I am not in this debate for my benefit you know. Right now it seems that you have greatly limited yourself and you stubbornly refuse to listen to his voice. You make the claim scripture furnishes us yet you purposely ignore his voice as it is presented to you

Unless you can prove it, you are adding to God's words.

I have given evidence for my stand but can you? Can you with God's disprove the gifts? because if not then you are taking away his word

Not if the gifts came only through an Apostle's hands (or the two outpourings). You need to find an exception to this before you can make your claim.

Maybe you don't believe in a pretrib mid trib post trib or whatever however this also doesn't make you right. If you study the scriptures there is evidence to support all those views depending on how you look at it so sometimes instead of holding to our own views and beliefs so tightly we have to learn to loosen our grip a bit to see the truth we would have missed otherwise. until you are able to do this all you will see in the scriptures is your own view and thus even if the truth is revealed to you it will remain hidden.
Profound estimation.

I can try to send it to her but I don't when she will be on, also I will have to figure out how because the message system acts different than the actual forum I may need lady blue to help me with that

1 Corinthians 14:39
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.
And if you recal my earlier posting Acts 2:17
And it will be in the last days, God says, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your elders will dream dreams.
Make note how he says he will pour out his spirit upon all flesh, this is the anointing of the holy spirit the power is not based on laying of hands or an anointing of Pentecost because it is ours now the second we are baptized in fire by the holy spirit when we receive him

The sheep must be psycho because they hear His voice. I might be a little nuts myself.
Yep. Me too. If that is the measurement for being psycho then I want to be more psycho than ye all...

When God saved me, he spoke very clearly to me. What he said was John 3:16, although it took me years to realize it was that verse.

After that, I spent a lot of time reading the Word, and praying. God spoke to me not in a loud voice, but a small still one. Again, it was all scripture. As I got to know the Bible better, God didn't need to point out verses, just help me remember them. But I always knew he was close. That even includes the time I turned my back on him, because of the cruelty showed by Word Faith people. That time, he didn't tell me verses, just that I was to read the Psalms 5 chapters a day. It took months for me to pick up my Bible, but when I did, I felt God smile on me. And did I ever learn a lot during those two years. The Word opened my eyes and broke my chains. At the end of 2 years, God called me to seminary for the second time. The first time, I disobeyed, and ended up sick after that. So I followed through, and doors were opened wide. What an opportunity to learn from international missionaries and God-loving scholars. And God still speaks with me, through his Word, but also through that small still but powerful voice.

The message is very different message now than when I was. New Christian, 40 years ago. Although I may yet live a long time, God is pointing me to follow Jesus to a new home. And that is a glorious thing. And it may take a lot of years to get to the point when God judges me ready to make that journey.

I know a lot of non-charismatics don't like to hear a conservative Christian talk about a voice that isn't the Word itself. And that is your right! I just know God has been walking beside me, and the Holy Spirit teaching me and discipling me for so long. I think I know the Bible well enough to stand on these verses:

"The one who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The doorkeeper opens the door for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought all his own sheep out, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice." John 10:2-4

Someone else posted this verse, I just wanted to quote the passage. We need to hear God's voice, as he says we should. We also need to recognize his voice. And we need to follow Christ daily. That is a simple passage, we should memorize, and do it! Whether it's through the actual written Word on paper that God illuminates, Or that small, special quiet voice. That is what the Bible says, and I have been so fortunate God has never led me astray, and even when I was wandering I heard his voice calling me back home!!
Thank you for your posting. It is good to hear that you hear God. Your experience is similar to my own in that God spoke "straight out of the scriptures" (directly quoting known scripture) at first. I think he did that in my case perhaps for 2 reasons:
  1. So I would recognize his voice as being the word of God. A SIDE NOTE for everyone's consideration: Anything spoken by God is the word of God (like everything he says in heaven to the angels) whether it is written in the bible or not.
  2. When he spoke, he emphasized a particular word within the verse whereas I always read that particular verse in monotone. That let me know that this word wasn't coming from my memory as I would have remembered it in monotone (like I'd always done before).
Later he would share things that were not directly quotable from the Bible, explaining what is meant by particular scriptures or showing things to come, which is something Jesus PROMISED the Holy Ghost would do (John 16:13).

Having said that, I am significantly curious about one thing. Seeing you support the truth of God speaking, may I ask which portion of Post #1 you disagreed with?

Love in Jesus,
Kelby
