In the 7th Century, Caliph Umar, invited 70 Rabbi's to come from exile, to Jerusalem to set up a Sanhedrin, and vote on where the TEMPLE should be located. They could not come to an agreement, so the VOTED ON IT, and the more than half voted for the location, that the Dome of the ROCK now sits on.
The Biggest REASON, that site could NEVER BE the CORRECT LOCATION, is there is NOT LEVEL GROUND ON BEDROCK. When David Bought it from
Ornan the Jebusite, it was ALREADY an established THRESHING Floor, thus a different LOCATION. And the BEST KIND OF GROUND FOR A THRESHING Floor, with a large FLAT Surface, preferably Bedrock.
I am about 99% sure this is DAVID's Tabernacle to the Right. A Sacrifice Altar, with a blood channel, open at the top, carved into the BEDROCK of a Threshing Floor. It discovered about two years ago, and only a FEW Yards from David's Palace, positively identified.
2 Chronicles 3:1 (ASV)
1 Then Solomon began to build the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem
{Ancient Jerusalem was the modern day City of David.} on mount Moriah,
where Jehovah appeared unto David his father, which he made ready in the place that David had appointed, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
This Huge ROCK sticks up inside the Dome of the Rock, proving it never was a Threshing Floor.
So where is the mistake about Mount Moriah ? ? ? The mistake is Mount Moriah was it is the NAME of the RIDGE that runs the Entire length of Ancient Jerusalem (also known as the City of David), and on up past the Dome of the Rock. Therefore the Temple was location on Mount Moriah, and is at the Center Peak, which was the ORIGINAL Mount Zion, (not the Mount Zion that named in the 7th Century.)
So, THAT Fact ALONE makes the Dome of the ROCK the WRONG LOCATION, as it is UNLEVEL Ground. They had to fill it in with Dirt, and cover it with STONES. Solomon's Temple was BUILT on the SAME SITE as David's Tabernacle built on
Ornan the Jebusite's Threshing Floor. That was the ORIGINAL MOUNT ZION. The 70 invited Sanhedrin in the 7th Century, also voted on WHERE Mount Zion was Located, and again they chose the WRONG SITE. They chose this HILL, and called it Mount Zion erroneously. WHY?
In 132 A.D. Prince Simon bar Kokhba, after kicking the ROMANS OUT, he order the Raised Plato, know as the Original MOUNT ZION, become a Rock Quarry to LOWER the Original Temple Mount, several meters to ground level, BECAUSE the ROMANS HAD BUILT ON THE ORIGINAL SITE OF SOLOMON'S TEMPLE
A TEMPLE TO JUPITER. THAT DEFILED THE BEDROCK TOO, SO SIMON bar KOHKBA, and used it to fill in the road to the South of Jerusalem.
According to
rabbinic sources, when the
Roman emperor Hadrian vowed to rebuild Jerusalem from the wreckage in AD 130, he considered reconstructing Jerusalem as a gift to the
Jewish people. The Jews awaited with hope, but after Hadrian visited Jerusalem, he was discouraged from doing so by a
Samaritan.
[8] He then decided to rebuild the city as a Roman colony, which would be inhabited by his
legionaries.
[9] Hadrian's new city was to be dedicated to himself and certain Roman gods, in particular
Jupiter.
[10] Wikepedia
Aelia Capitolina was a Roman colony, built under Emperor Hadrian on the site of Jewish Jerusalem, which had been almost totally razed after the siege of 70 CE, this being one apparent reason for the Bar Kokhba revolt of 132–136 CE.

. . . the Roman Emperor Hadrian built a pagan temple on the Mount. It was dedicated to the trio of pagan gods and goddesses Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva. Hadrian was a great worshiper of Jupiter, having erected the famous Olympian Jupiter temple in Athens. But he also worshipped himself and required worship from his subjects. On the Temple Mount he honored himself as a god with an equestrian statue. At the same time, a temple of Aphrodite was built over the tomb which Christians venerated as the tomb of Jesus. Hadrian outlawed the study and teaching of the Torah and made it a capital offense to practice Judaism.
At the time that Solomon's Temple was first built, the higher ground to the north was a Potato Field, according to this Tour Guide,
Video #1,645. The City was CALLED JERUSALEM, and nick named City of David. Then Temple was in the Northwest Corner of the City of David on top of the OPHEL. At the time of Christ, there was at least to entrance door on the West side of the TEMPLE. That is after Herod had ENHANCED the TEMPLE, and the City had grown across the Central Valley, so 70 settled in the southern part of Jerusalem, NEAR Western GATES, just across the creak to the EAST.
There were supposed to be gates along the WEST SIDE, and that was why the 70 invites to be the Sanhedrin in the 7th Century wanted to be housed on the West Side. Only they never figured out where the LOCATIONS SHOULD BE, and thus it was NEVER REBUILT. And even today they are still CONFUSED. It seems like simple logic to me, but the Jews certainly are confused.
