Meant to say Squ'Earl Scruggs.
Scruggs is the one picking, Lester Flatt is the one grinning.

Ain't it great to get old?
Well, in your case just old-er.
In mine it's actually elderly. ;)

I think one of the best defences (talking about myself) is to preach the gospel to myself daily...its a daily struggle with the flesh.

Secondly, I pray that God would keep me from temptation and deliver me from the lies and temptations of the evil one (pretty much the Lords Prayer).

Controlling the sin in our lives is not easy.. a trap that i find easy to fall into is 'respectable sins' small things..but hey its ok its not a biggy?! but these small things are cancerous they build up and build up and cause a heavy conscience... So i don't have a total answer except that in sanctification I rely on the Holy Spirit to guide me and WORK hard not to act on temptations whilst focusing on the Gospel.. Im still a sinner saved by Grace.

If anyone took what I said to be sarcasim, I apologize. My only intent was to present Scripture in a funny way so that it would not be taken as preaching. I guess trying to convey in that manner is out too.

The bible teaches Jesus as a boy reading learning and debating
the bible then shows Him using it, teaching from it.....same with John the baptist

Now they are trying to streamline it just have chats all day
with God. Why didnt Jesus do this? Are we greater than Him?
Arrggg...ill obey Rick and go put on a pot.
I think its important for us to study and learn the Bible so that we are able to give a good and true answer for why we believe what we believe in the words of God's prophets through the ages and so that we can't get mess up in the head when people try to twist scripture.

However I do pray continuously and God both listens and answers. That being said I do not believe every voice or spirit is from God and that we should test all spirits and spend more time in this world than in meditative trance or reflection. we are not to waste time communing with spirits but with flesh and blood human beings.

we don't go around casting out demons. we pray for the humans being affects and God takes care of the spiritual warfare.

I think it sinful for people to go around thinking they are helping by teaching people to shout at demons rather than pray to God to take care of it. I think it negligent and irresponsible to teach people to see a demon in every bush or teapot, when it could be issues of their own flesh or strongholds in their mind. I think it wrong to instill fear instead of faith and peace in God.

however this thread is not about that and too often people try to draw a dividing line when none should exist between people who state an opinion contrary to their own instead of just praying and ask God to clarify which one is expressing HIS Truth.

if more people just prayed about it, there would be less conflict

what do we do when we sin?

repent and silently wait for God to place in your heart how you can make amends for the hurt you may have caused others by your sinful actions. how you can pick a person you might have made to stumble and help them climb upward.

Looked to me and sounds to me he was using sarcasm(which i adore) to overturn
what i said that talking to God and Him talking back is NOT the first lesson we teach
people. In fact hearing Gods voice biblically is not a voice at all. Yet folk teach that.

But its not new to me to hear that. I rekon to be laughed at to such a degree
with the text he used made the point real good. And so goes the learning.
I sure learned.

Understandable and thank you for pointing out how it can be misunderstood over the internet.

I began asking the Lord each day, after a quick thanks, to fill my heart with g-r-a-c-e.
Almost before I'm conscious when I wake up.
I think everything He wants to do in and through and for me
for the rest of this life, will be as much a work of grace
as when He saved me!

I find when I do this, I tend to be tied much more tightly to God.
And of course, walking more closely makes resisting temptation...I would say 'easier'...but I hesitate to ascribe to myself what is essentially His work. :)

What is inspiration?
If it does not line up with the Word, it is vanity.
If it does, it is the Holy Spirit.
(Else how would God lead us?)
What I'm saying is when you see the numeral 2; you say to yourself "two".
So it is with the Holy Spirit.
We read the word and He expounds it to us.
This is why you can read verses over and over and each time get something new out of it,.......
the Word IS living,.....and so is the Holy Spirit.

We're not over the hill. We just have a great view
My dad used to say, "It's all downhill from here."
He didn't mean things going badly....
just coasting, as opposed to when one is younger.
Work, and little ones, and all the uncertainly that comes
with that stage of life.

Coasting's cool, Pop! You were right. :)
