Allan: I know there are different interpretations in this, but the bible seems to suggest that the lake of fire/ hell is temporary and that eventually those people will cease to exist. Why would eternal life be such a big deal if all are to live forever? At some point all of "hell" (sheol? I struggle to keep the terms apart) will be thrown into the lake of fire and destroyed.

But back to heaven: Whether or not we remember things from our lives on earth, I don't think it will worry us.
I currently wonder if I will still wonder about the same things, and ask God all my silly questions "How large is the universe really? Can you explain black holes to me? what did the dinosaurs really look like?"

The point I'm getting at is, something has to change within us to be able to live eternally and in total happiness whilst still having the knowledge that your child is suffering terribly at the same time.
Something will. Our sinful nature will be gone. The blinders will come off, and our understanding will be full. We will finally have the capacity to completely trust God regarding His judgments, and thus be truly happy.

? where in the bible does it indicate that hell is temporary? That is indeed a comforting thought but I have only seen eternal torment in the scriptures of hell?

From my understanding the bible only says heaven is there and its a good place. the exact details are not there and if they were we probably coudnt understand them.

so when you imagine what its like what kind of image pops into your head? and what did your parents tell you when you were a kid?
I have no idea...

... "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived"
-- the things God has prepared for those who love him--

as for "eternal fire", do you see any continually burning cities? :)
"As Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them in a similar manner, having given themselves over to sexually immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire"

If those aren't still burning, there must be a different interpretation available somehow

Also:
Malachi 4:1,3. "For behold the day is coming burning like and oven, and all the proud, yes allude wickedly shall be as stubble. And the day that is coming shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, that shall leave them neither root nor branch. . . You shall trample the wicked for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet

Psalms 37:20, "But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away."

buuut enough about hell (we should start our own thread :p )

Imagine seeing this!
Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders

The destruction that God rained down on those cities was a lethal mixture of
fire and brimstone; which Webster's defines as sulfur.

Sulfur melts at 232.36º F and boils at 832.28º F. If sulfur's temperature is
maintained in that range; it will not only set things on fire, but also produce
a very toxic vapor. Molten sulfur appears to be God's version of napalm.

Anyway I think it's best to interpret eternal fire as simply a limitless
quantity. In other words: there's no danger of God ever running out of the
stuff; so He has plenty on hand to top off the lake depicted at Rev 20:10-15.

Incidentally, according to Dan 12:2 and John 5:28-29, there is but one
resurrection allotted per person. So then the people condemned to die in the
lake won't be coming back seeing as how they will have used up their one
resurrection in order to face justice at the Great White Throne event.

Really? We can't have one thread, with the TITLE, "Whats your idea of HEAVEN" dedicated to the joy of what God has in store for us without the hellfire talk?

Your joy, should you make the cut, will be even greater by knowing what
might have been your fate instead.

†. Isa 66:22-24 . . From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to
another, all mankind will come and bow down before me; says the Lord. And
they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against
me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be
loathsome to all mankind.

Heaven has always been to me...a patch of trees that I could sing to God songs I wrote daily.

Jesus will smile at me in Heaven for He will invite mevto this big Golden Church to sing my songs for Him

I wont go Jesus

I shall say in Heaven

Jesus would say why?

I shall say

"Jesus...Your Golden Church is for hearts better than me upon earth. I am fine with my patch of forest"

Jesus will then say

My girl...it is NOT the walk of a man that makes him with me

But the walk with Me
That makes Me with him

Lol just a guess I had what Jesus would say

So does that mean nothing will be remembered? Or just the bad stuff will be erased?

If my entire family are in hell will I forget my entire family ever existed? All my amazing childhood memories gone?
its an entire different world. our minds and eyes will be open to all things. think of someone you love with all your heart, our Father loves us wayyyyyy more than that. you have to have faith in that love. it will all work out for the best.

I understand. Its very difficult for me to think beyond basic human thoughts, because that's all I've ever known. I'm still new to this stuff :)

That is because that is what it teaches......and your statement is correct......Whatsoever God does it is eternal......that includes punishment for the lost as well as salvation for the saved.......!

true a fire eventually goes out but this isn't a normal fire it's hell it's a spiritual realm and thus the normal rules don't apply

Well and hell and heaven are both kind of tied together they are both the eternal resting places of God's creation but I do know where you are coming from

although today I experienced five minutes of heaven. See today I was holding the little ceasers sign for work like I always do but today was so hot and humid that I overheated and became very dizzy and was having a very hard time breathing and plus my legs almost kept giving out from weariness when work ended I was very dizzy extremely hot and could barely walk without falling, so out of concern they put me in the freezer storage.

The second I entered my body lost all strength and I had never felt so wonderful, I was so very happy to be in the freezing cold and I thought to myself if there is a heaven on earth this is it.

PennEd makes a valid point. My sports teams don't need to lose any championships in order for me to appreciate when they win championships. Winning championships without experiencing any losses is just fine. Focusing on God's gifts is good enough.

Allan..., I sort of understand where you are coming from. I have wondered how we could not be reminded that we had parents, children, etc. when we get there. I can only theorize that since God created our minds, then He could easily remove memories if he felt the need. If we didn't have any memories of our unbelieving friends or relatives at all and then we were told that they wouldn't try to believe or live right, I don't think it would impact us much. Also there would be so many other super nice people to be around that we might not have much time to think about them.
