God has done such good things in the situation. They made it so that he can work from his home computer for a few days out of the week when he is at his worst and needs the most rest. This was his first day and he hardly seems as tired or stressed as I thought he would be. I'm really happy and really grateful.

Put this in your mental scrapbook for the next time you think "It can't work out like this."

It often can't, until the Lord steps in. This is why I mentally collect all the times I remember, "It can't work like this." Because, so far, every time, it really did and only through God's power.

So far, dad's been kinda doing the same thing as far as routine. Today mostly it's getting daddy to sleep. Can we pray he gets a nap? He needs it.

It's good that he has a routine, he needs to remember though that he is not superman
and make sure that he takes care of himself.

Im glad he manage to nap. :)

Yeah lorazepam withdrawals probably are the culprit. He's been tapering back

It's been two days since he had his chemo, and sadly daddy hasn't been able to sleep well at all in those two days. He doesn't want to nap because he's worried he won't sleep through the night, but at the same time he's still staying awake. I'm worried.

Ok so we just got ambien for dad, so we need prayer for wisdom on dosage.

Daddy was smart in his way of taking it at first. He took quarters of the 5 mg dose. Sadly, the first quarter helped til about 1am. But the rest of the day he hasn't been able to sleep, even after he tried to take the rest of the pill (the other 3 quarters). We're thinking tonight we can just give him a half pill and see what it does.

How about trusting the doctor to know what he/she is doing, and take the whole pill? Frankly, I'm surprised a man was given the 5 mg. pill. Usually, they're for women.

And back in the olden days, when ambien first came out, generally speaking the prescription was for 10 days, because that's how long it took to reset the circadian rhythm. (The thing in us that tells us it's night, so go to sleep. And then tells us it's morning, so wake up.) So, try what the doctor prescribed -- the full pill -- for ten days and assume that works.

He's going to try and take half for now, and if it doesn't help we're gonna go with the full dose. Yeah we're all very nervous so it's hard. >_<

Daddy just took the full dose of the ambien at 5mgs. It did literally nothing. I don't know what to do to help him sleep.

Benadryl makes one drowsy and I gave them to the elderly in the hospital. At one time it was considered the safest drug for the older patients.

Has your dr. Ever mentioned this?

I wouldn't mix drugs though without asking a dr. Or calling the er.

Steph perhaps if your Dr. Ok it try melatonin it's a natural sleep enhancer .

Benadryl is great for drowsy, if you also don't have high blood pressure.

Steph, when John was tapered off his pain pills, he had trouble sleeping too. We're not sure if it was because he was being tapered off or because he was in bed nonstop for months on end. (If you're in bed, rest happens, whether you sleep or not. So exactly how much sleep is needed when you're that sedentary?) Restlessness is a side effect of getting off antidepressants and pain pills.

Honestly? He might just be restless for a week or so. If it doesn't change after a week, have him call his doctor. But, as much as we feel badly for them, this really is what happens.
