With regards the the thorn of "preexisting conditions" in the discussion of Health Care. That is a two sided coin.
This coverage came about because of the greed and cold hearted approach of the Insurance Companies. For many, many years, people paid their Health Insurance Premiums, paid their Deductibles, did everything right, and they had Health Insurance. This could go on for 5, 10, 15, 20 years OR MORE.
Then the person gets sick, really sick, and their treatment is VERY EXPENSIVE. At the VERY FIRST CHANCE, Insurance Companies would DROP their coverage for this person, and refuse to renew their Policies. That left the person to seek other Coverage from other Companies. Those Companies REFUSED to insure the person because of their sickness/illness.
This left many, many people having to sell ALL of their worldly possessions.....homes, cars, Retirement Plans, everything to pay for the treatments they needed just to stay alive. And, sadly, many, many people ended up dying.
This is the reason people cried out to Congress to do something about this betrayal of the Insurance Companies.
Now, in my opinion, rather than go the "preexisting conditions" route, Congress should pass Legislation making it illegal for Insurance Companies to DROP a person BECAUSE THEY GET SICK. This way, the Company who the person has been paying for years and years for Health Care coverage is responsible to LIVE UP TO the contract they made with the person.
Other Companies would not be forced to Insure that person............
just a thought
