All of the current political turmoil, to me, is reminding me of history past.

The Reformation....and more specifically the English reformation.

This was a time period when the Church ruled the world but some nations had broken away. The two silver mining nations were Britain and Spain.

The Church was the determiner of who learned to read and who did not. The feudal system was the Law of the Land. Lord's, Ladies, Dukes and Monarchies had little power but the Church had all the money and power...and soldiers.

Enter King Henry the VIII.
Somewhat of an oversized ego but He commissioned the Great Bible. Common People could go to their local church and learn to read for the first time. The Psalter and Book of prayers both held sections of scriptures....but the context was ALWAYS explained by the Church. Also all taxes, fines, tithes, and offerings (mandatory) all went to the Church and then the Church would provide the soldiers, police, and adjudication necessary for civil life.

King Henry stopped the flow of money to Rome and Spain and created the Anglican Church....the Great Bible was Tyndale and Erasmus's work. But Henry had Tyndale killed. Miles Coverdale produced Tyndales work as his own and claimed fame.

Their big fuss was over the dominance of the local Church or the Central Church....Tyndale was not on the right side so that's why Henry had him killed.

Then came Bloody Mary....the Calvinists ran off to Geneva and the Catholic Church's dominance restored. But she had a short reign due to cancer.
Elizabeth, the Virginia queen, whom Mary had imprisoned, did nothing to stop the flow of Geneva Bibles into The UK. Nor did she endorse them. But they were popular. And the little glosses (commentary) at the bottom of every page ensured that people understood the scriptures that they could now read with a decidedly Calvinistic bent....and voting was becoming popular. (Calvinists love voting)

History has NOT been kind to Henry....nor to Mary or even the Calvinists. The Geneva Bibles were the Bible of Choice when the America's were being populated....Sir Francis Drake carried one and so did Shakespeare. Obviously a time of prosperity from the peace was the result.

The English Reformation was a VERY TURBULENT time period. Lots of people died from starvation and overwork. Bubonic plague devastated entire cities too.

Today....
We have Covid and Bird Flu....we have DOGE shedding light on what our politicians are doing....which was nothing more than a self perpetuating and enrichment of a ruling class of individuals.
We have literal criminals running the government elected by unknowing people through lies and imaginary people through vote fraud.

Trump is the King Henry the 8th of old....
Less of a heathen and dictator than people losing their money supply and positions of power would have you believe. No matter what trappings of righteousness they seem to have.

Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.
Probably true the way it has been managed.

I find it rather interesting though how some people go on about government waste, but the fact that EM receives billions from the government in subsidies an important question that is not considered.

Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.
Not if the economy and population is growing.
But the benefits have been drastically cut....then the money literally stolen from the citizens and given to illegal aliens.

So....it WAS fixed/corrected on into perpetuity so long as GDP continued to increase over long periods of time.

Now it's been deliberately broken during its tight period of Baby Boomers (people born in late 1940's) retired but still alive.

The Gen of 1960's are coming into retirement and VERY VERY angry. They had it the toughest for careers and economic opportunities. Now even their retirement has been STOLEN BY POLITICIANS.
And these "thirteeners" (those born in the 60's) have a very warped idea of Justice.
They believe "If I can't have it then nobody gets it and let's burn this place down to the ground"
They consider the stealing of SS a death sentence...so murder begets murder....

Get ready....life can go south really really quickly. Only those with passports and visas MIGHT have a chance.

Well Trump is not a man of his word he signed the deal.
Canada is not every nation, the USA has a trade surplus with the USA except for oil/energy.
Since you cannot stick to the topic and the facts, once again I am moving on.
Trump lied.

Remove Canadian energy exports from the equation and the trade story flips. Ex-energy, the U.S. enjoys a trade surplus with Canada of around C$60 (US$45 billion).
(TD Canada Trust)

Impressive how far people will go to defend him.

Barrett, ooh trigger!! She ruled against Trump she is a sell out. Maybe she is trying to block his tyrant/bully tendencies.
Notice I didn't concentrate on the amount of trade but barriers to trade. Other countries protect their domestic markets more than we do. To be equitable, we should do the same. That's all that's happening.
If you are going to get upset with lying politicians, call them all out. Trump's job is to make America great; not Canada. Canada has its own leaders. Why are you not bothered by how poorly America and Americans have been treated?

Barrett, herself, is a liar herself. She passed herself off as a strict constitutionalist. Why aren't you bothered by this liar? And if Trump were wrong, Thomas and Aledo would vote against him.

I have stated several times the USA hegemony is over, that is right they were sold out many years ago, which I have repeated several times, but you guys cannot face reality.

And no, he is not making America great again, he trying to maintain the empire, two separate things.
Empire decline a fact of history deal with it.

The US is the only nation in a position to do reciprocal tariffs and that will be good for their economy. Every other nation will see their economy suffer. It may be that what Trump is doing is fair, but what about Canada's response or China's response.

The fact is we are in a trade war. That doesn't mean Trump started it, nor does it mean he is wrong to want fair trade. But it does mean that global trade is going to drastically decrease and you will see a global recession and more likely depression. Right or wrong 95% of the world will blame the US for this.

In the US we will have options, if something is more expensive you can simply choose to not buy it, at least for the next few months or even years. So the impact of this trade war will probably be the most mild for the US. But for the rest of the world this will be a crisis and for some countries it will be catastrophic.

But here is the flip side, the entire world has been bankrolling our debt because they are able to sell a lot of stuff to us at a very favorable deal where our tariffs are comparatively very low. That was the deal, we pay for your debt and you import our stuff. Trump is cancelling that deal and that means there is no reason for them to buy our debt. They do have an option and that is BRICS. Because even if they have reciprocal tariffs with BRICS nations they will still be able to trade and if the money is backed by gold they don't have to worry about the hidden tax of inflation.

So who is going to bankroll our debt? From what I understand most nations have stopped buying the debt, many have become net sellers so even if there are some still buying if it is less than those selling it will not have any impact on the money we must still borrow. If we have a balanced budget it will certainly be an austerity budget, but that is based on the very optimistic projection of 4.5 trillion in tax revenue. Is that reasonable if we have a global recession or even depression?

Barret voted strict constitutionally....
Congress makes the budget and who gets paid what as a statute....the President cannot usurp Congressional authority....like it or not.

Or, other countries will improvise, adapt, and overcome.

This is exactly what the primary recipient of the USAID funds said.
“This is a good thing for our country” he said “because it will make us work on our own solutions “

Indians never used to have Social Security, and they survived for centuries.
