We had a bit of a situation at work last year. A contracted IT company came in for
several months to do some work for us. One was a man who was taking hormone
treatment to become a woman.
It was sort of interesting in a bizarre kind of way to see the effects of female
hormones on a male body. Over the course of time he seemed to lose body
hair and his skin changed. Not that I went looking lol, but it was obvious during
the summer months when he wore shore sleeved tops.
Then there was the next phase where he started to wear skirts and sandals
instead of trousers.
The inevitable question came of whether he uses the ladies or the gents came up.
I should explain that I work in a building with several floors and the ladies and gents
alternate between the floors. So for example the canteen, ladies and where the IT
people worked was all on the top floor, then the next floor down included the gents,
the next floor the ladies etc.
I stopped using the ladies on the top floor after walking in a couple of times and
seeing him there. There was individual toilets but it still felt a bit strange.
Also I don't know what else goes on in the gents, but in the ladies, staff use it for
getting changed, putting on make up, getting a bit of a wash in hot weather etc.
So you don't really want a man walking in, even if he is wearing a skirt.
