A lot of people still don't realize prices started going up to $2.40 since early this morning and now places are running out of gas. The price wars have begun. Man, I paid $4.59; but atleast I got my tank full.

Looks like you are paying Canadian prices. I figure that prices will go up all over the country. But I feel so bad for those suffering in the flooding. I honestly have sat and cried watching the rescues. I cannot imagine how they feel, many of them losing everything and no insurance to cover them. The Governor just declared Sunday a day of prayer for Texas,I thought that was a wonderful thing to do.

Don't panic. Just purchase what you need when you need it. Everything will work out just fine.

We know that at least 20% of our petroleum industry is offline for now. It'll take a few weeks, but it will be back to normal before the holiday season.

Our gas is close to five and a half dollars an American gallon.
It is often always cheaper in the 'burbs, though...

Just curious. How much of that price is tax?

Gosh, I don't know! But the price has been yo-yoing around for a while now. It was around $1.30 a litre for a while (approximately four litres per American gallon), but has gone up to $1.40, and possibly higher. My gas tank is full right now, so I have not looked at the price the last couple of days. It usually goes down a bit one evening coming up to the weekend, like tonight it might, and then I will top up. Otherwise, I just wait until I need to buy gas and then get what I need regardless of the scalping going on :p

I live near a major tourist route to the beaches. On Friday the price goes up $.10/gal and on Tuesday morning it goes down $.10/gal. We visit family in Ga or Ala on weekends. We save $.20 to $.35/gal when we fill up there. Fla taxes are that much higher than theirs.

Canada has a blended tax, state tax and federal gov't tax called GST. The GST is 15% in most states. I just found a graph that shows how this works out.Basically the tax is 15.5 cents a litre. [spell check is correcting litre lol] where I was from in Nova Scotia. 33 cents in Newfoundland where my mother was from.

prices jumped 55 cents/gal here yesterday between 4am and 5pm. i filled up the day before, anticipating this happening. lol maybe i shoulda filled up the cans. didn't have to go out today so i didn't go out, don't know how high it's climbed at this point. my state has one of the lowest gas taxes nationally so i know i'm paying less than most anyway.

i figure prices will stabilize within the week, though they'll stay higher than what they've been averaging probably for a month or three. but what can you do? i don't have a choice. when i have to travel, i have to buy gas. public transportation isn't an option - there's no kind of infrastructure like that where i'm at; it's rural with small & mid-sized towns scattered around 20 miles between them. i'll pay what i have to pay, when i have to pay it. my work is rarely any closer than 40 miles away, if i can't do it from home.

c'est la vie, but God will provide

This "shortage" is created by the Oil Companies. As a RULE, they keep a significant amount of fuel in reserve just for situations like this. They are taking advantage of the storm to drive up prices, and they will rake in MILLIONS before the Government steps in and tells them to "cool it." The Government is in on it with them........after all, Oil Companies are one of the largest contributors to Campaign Chests........

What we need is a little revolution and string up a few of these criminal price gougers......... :) Old West Justice!

The prices on the north side of the metroplex still show to be around $2.59 or so, up about 30 cents from a few days ago... the problem in Allen is that everybody has temporarily run dry. Everyone in a panic, coupled with people trying to fill up their RV's so they can go out of town this weekend... self-fulfilling prophecy.

Gas should be available again in a day or so...

If I remember, I'll let you know what prices are around here the next time we fill up. Don't hold your breaths. We tend to fill up once a season. lol

(We live in the city, so much of where we go is by foot. Shopping is by car, but we usually shop once a week, and the store is 2.5 miles away.)

Holiday travel appears to be normal. Looks like our price is going to settle around $2.60/gal. At least for the weekend.

Everyone is invited to take a trip to the beach this weekend. Leave us a few extra dollars, and stay safe.

I was through greater Vancouver about two weeks ago. In Delta, the price was 1.39 a litre. In Kamloops, it was 1.24. In Calgary, 1.05, and in Moose Jaw, 0.95. It just went up in MJ to 1.05.

Gas recently jumped from $2.19 a gallon to $2.59 a gallon where I live in Missouri.
