You really see it in American history. After the Treaty of Ghent, Britain got itself on a pretty congenial footing with the US.

We still built fortifications along the Atlantic coast just in case. ;)
There are various old bunkers and pill boxes around our coasts too.
It's a pity everyone didn't just have a bun fight and get WW1 & WW2 over with.

The Pillbox Study Group Website

Also loads of underground war rooms and defence structures across the country - just in case :p

A List of all known "Cold War" Nuclear Bunkers and Subterranean Complexes in the UK. {Interesting!)

The difference is that the War for Independence was a fight within the family. Our ancient heritage is/was on the same island off the coast of Europe. At of the end of the day, we're Britons of a different color.

For just about everyone else Britain has had a long war with, it's a different story. We really never qualified as a "foreign threat" parse.

only way I would even think of moving to the UK is if I got to keep my guns.
You wouldn't need a gun. 99.9% of the U.K. population does not have one, you can
go anywhere you what and not see a single gun. I'm 47 and I have never ever seen
a real gun in my entire life.

That's 47 years of travelling all over the place meeting loads of people, going all
over the place among strangers etc. Even our police force does not carry guns doing
normal every day to day police work. (There are armed response units who are called
upon when needed).

There is a small percentage who do have gun licences, mostly among the farming community,
or a minuscule number who may belong to gun clubs and shoot as a sporting activity.

Every so often you will hear of a crime where guns were involved, but it is
rare that you hear of a crime where someone is shot in the UK.

I suppose you could carry a water pistol instead, we have lots of those. Lol

Same here, the only time I saw a gun/guns was when I was in the US and did some shooting with a friend's guns and I have 9 years on you Miri lol.

We had an amazing Sunday service this morning based on Isaiah 6 v 1-8 concerning
the recent events.

Isaiah 6:1-8 NKJV
[1] In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne,
high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.
[2] Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his
face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
[3] And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!"
[4] And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out,
and the house was filled with smoke.

[5] So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the
King, The LORD of hosts."
[6] Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which
he had taken with the tongs from the altar.
[7] And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched
your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged."
[8] Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who
will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

Before the sermon started and before we know what it was going to be about. I
had a picture (some call them visions I prefer the word picture lol) of the throne
room of God. Jesus was sat on the throne the sky around looked stormy but bright all
at the same time. He was gazing done upon planet earth and the earth was full of people
looking up towards Jesus.

Three pointer - here is the outline.

1. People need to look up
The King was dead no replacement yet. There would have been uncertainty across the nation
but Isaiah saw a vision of throne room of God

Rev 4 v 8 holy holy etc. v 6 glass sea unshakable throne surrounded by a moat of calmness.
There is no choppy sea in front of God.

Our earthly throne is empty in the sense of Government needing to be reformed, but the throne
room of heaven is not empty. Important to have eyes focused on the King enthroned on high.

2. Look in Isaiah transfixed by glory and holiness.

V5 it was frightening to see God in his holiness. It caused Isaiah to see himself and his own need.
He was a long way short of the man God wanted him to be.

Lev 11 be holy because I am holy. Coal taken from the holy place. Isaiah said he had unclean lips,
the coal touched his lips. God makes holy that which is not holy. Need to look in and see that
which needs changing which requires a "touch of that coal."

3. Look out v 8 who shall I send - send me.

Those same unclean lips now qualified to be used. Be ready for the harvest of 1000s.
Look for opportunities to share Christ, be ready with an answer for those who are
bewildered by events.

I wish we had sermons like this in our church - I would be gripped! I don't know of any church in my area with deep teaching so I wind up looking online - I usually find them there.

Here is an interesting opinion piece from the Imaginative Conservative. Stephen Turley may be on to something, but I urge those who read to exercise a bit of caution- this bunch is often smart on the abstract end of things but a little off-kilter when it comes to reading contemporary trends.

An Australian news source sums up the current state of play in the race.

Theresa May- 165 votes.

Andrea Leadsom- 66 votes.

Michael Gove- 48 votes.

Stephen Crabb- 34 votes.

Liam Fox- 16 votes.

Fox and Crabb have bowed out, leaving us with Leadsom, Gove, and May.

On this first ballot May has half the votes necessary to win, cementing her place at the head of the pack.

My opinion though is that having 50% was not enough to make it a sure thing. This very much reminds me of votes in a convention setting here in the good ol' US of A. Activist/politician votes are more pliable than the general population on successive ballots for many reasons. Many of them are (shocker) political.

Leadsom is sharp. Gove is a master Machiavellian planner. More game to be played, ladies and gents.

If I were in your shoes, dear British cousins, I would be pulling for Leadsom. Britain has consistently drafted great female leaders of ironclad principle and will.

I do not think May fits that description, but Leadsom does. You go girl.

Crabb and Fox are both now out of the race. Fox through lack of support and Crabb opted out - he was never going to win it through age/lack of experience. Theresa May is favourite to win and the other 2 have now pledged their allegiance to her but I agree that Andrea Leadsom is the best candidate, for one thing she will be quick to push the button to begin the process of leaving the EU - the others are dragging their feet for they voted to remain in it. Worrying...

I don't trust Gove as far as I can throw him. He pushed for leave, but I think he would throw the operation under the bus if he thought it was good for Michael Gove.

I dont trust Gove either. If he becomes PM the other MPs will need to watch their Backs.

On a lighter note I saw a letter in a Paper today. It said ''We had Maggie and now we might have May. Rod Stuart must be pleased''
