The first thing I'd need on a Meetup Planning Committee are people who are up to date on social media, because I don't use any of these services.

Wine, I'm glad you're here because you're reminding me of other crucial things to consider for a real live meetup.

What can be done to ensure people's safety? Not only are there catfishes, but we have a lot of readers here who lurk and never say anything or reveal themselves. What if we announce a meetup and some 65-year-old guy decides he's going to show up because he wants to meet a 17-year-old member he's "interested" in, without her even knowing? I would feel personally responsible for her safety and would do everything I could to prevent that from happening.

There are tons of people who, unfortunately, pick up internet stalkers (at any age) and we need to protect people as much as possible.

Then it becomes a matter of invitation-only, which would turn the whole thing into one big clique, and that just doesn't seem fair either.

With all the challenges of trying to plan a real-life meetup, what would you all think of trying to plan a series of meetups in Singles Chat instead?

I can't guarantee I'd appear on camera (it's against my personal code, in order to protect the innocent ), but I'd definitely be willing to try the mic.

About the chatroom, I could swear I saw a thread about coordinating chat meeting times. I think it was started by a helpful, somewhat intelligent and good natured person, but I can't remember the nickname...

It's an awesome idea for people who live within driving distance of one another, but it seems like very few people are that close to each other here.

So if something is planned for people who are long distances away from each other, you'd have to plan for something like a 3-day event, because no one is going to drive 6 hours or buy a plane ticket to come to one lunch or dinner and then go home.

Henceforth... all the complications begin, such as renting a house, hotel rooms, etc., because then you'd need at least one room for all the guys and anothr room for all the girls.

From there, it becomes a matter of, who pays all the deposits/advance fees when planning things like accommodations?

And who gets left paying for others out of their own pocket when/if people bail out?

People could do a regional meetup. Northeast, Southeast, West, Midwest, Northwest. I mean, I would drive a few hours for a meal, because I am THAT nosy. But you are right about the logistics. I would suggest the planners say "We are meeting in ___ for the first annual CC meetup. If you would like to come, make your own hotel arrangements." If the only people who come are the two planners, at least you get to meet one person from CC in real life. It would not be a total wash. Everyone wants to go to DisneyWorld. That might be an idea.
