We are having church next Sunday - instead of Sunday School, morning worship and evening worship we will have only one short morning worship service. We don't expect a high turnout though.

How about you? Will you be going to church next Sunday? Do you think people should go to church, stay home with their families, or do you think it really doesn't matter and I shouldn't have bothered starting this thread? Seriously, I'm wanting your opinion here.

Personally I get the mental image of my friends all having a party because it's my birthday, but not inviting me. I'll be going to church next Sunday, but I'll probably miss the Dirty Santa game my family plays every year.

NOTA BIEN: This thread is to get an overview of the average opinion on the forum. This thread is not for arguments about the topic. If you disagree with somebody please don't argue about it. (Besides, I haven't checked but I'm sure the BDF already has a thread for arguing about whether you should go to church on Christmas Day.) :p

I'm away from home at Christmas so I won't be attending the service at my 'home' church. I have gone to C-Day services in the past and quite enjoyed them.

We usually have a shorter service on Christmas morning. its not usually well attended as many people travel. However we do get a number of visitors - people who have traveled to our city to be with family and also those who tend to darken a church doorstep on religious holidays like Christmas and Easter Sunday. With this Christmas being a Sunday, there was some chatter among congregants about whether or not normal service times should apply or the traditional shorter service should continue.

My Church doesn't do a Christmas day service which to me is a travesty, however this year I have a houseful and none are Christians so it would be difficult to make the escape to church. I will though be looking for an early morning online service so that I don't feel too deprived.

It may just depend on families. Our family has three men that drive either Fed Ex or UPS. They are working long into the night and that began in November. They have one day off a week. So no,we wont be going to church Sunday. But our pastor knows and understands why they dont see us this time of year. Its nice for those who can attend. We are hoping to make it to the New Years service though.

I now attend church services on Saturday but my current position has me working on weekends. Growing up as a Catholic I attended church with my family mostly on Sundays. Occasionally would attend on Saturday afternoons too as there is a late afternoon service. If Christmas fell on a Sunday I would either attend the Midnight mass or the usual morning church service. This Christmas I will just be spending time with my wife, her daughter and maybe a friend.

Christmas Eve - Multiple PM Services

Christmas Day - Singular AM Service

I actually think there will be more people there than people expect. C&E people...after all...

This year, we are having two services on Saturday night (both shared with the Presbyterian congregation we let use our building.), and no services on Sunday. This is good because about a dozen of us will be setting up the church classrooms to house five "Family Promise" families for a week, beginning on Christmas day.

I have to confess that I can't remember a single Christmas Day that I attended a church service (cue stoning now.) When I was growing up, my family always went to the Christmas Eve service the night before and then started making the rounds (to visit family) on Christmas Day.

Thanksgiving has become my "adventurous" holiday the past couple of years because I was usually by myself. I spent a couple of my Thanksgiving in prisons (as a visitor, not a resident) and missed church because I had to get up pretty early to make it to the visiting hours on time. Another Turkey Day when I was with my family, we went with a group that cooked and served meals to local families in need.

I'm thinking, I'd kind of like to do those sorts of things more often for the holidays in the future.

The prison visits affected me the most. Out of a 300-man block, only 3 inmates received visits. No wonder so many people feel broken and forgotten.

To be honest, I often have a lot of sad feelings myself on the holidays, but going and sitting with other people who have it 1000x worse and then some was a pretty good "church service" to me.

I have this theory that in real life, you don't actually talk, Lynx, but rather, sing out everything, kind of like the Giant's Golden Harp from Jack and the Beanstalk. ;)

In fact, I bet you'd give the Harp a run for her... uh... strings? :p

I won't be attending services on Christmas morning. Of course, I don't attend a church building any other time of the year either. I will be assembling with other believers serving food to others. Christ lived a life of servitude, so I am pretty sure He's okay with my celebrating Him by serving others? Eh it works for me.

This is where the Catholic Church probably has the rest beat in that folks flock to Midnight mass on Christmas Eve.

Anyway being that I go to church on Saturday rather than Sunday when Christmas falls on Saturday I usually go. Why wouldn't I want to spend special time with God? But then that's just me and my opinion for myself. When it's my Birthday I go to church too but in my later years I refused to go to work on my Birthday as it was a day for me to have fun....lol My Bday is December 23rd....so just one big celebration and next year it will be on a Saturday church day for me.

I will be going to church on Christmas. My church will be having service Sunday morning but not evening. I don't think there will be any preaching though....just singing and worshiping the reason of Christmas.
