I had a friend who lived in a trailer home with his wife. It wasn't double-wide or anything. Just one bedroom, bath, kitchen and living room and it had a car port and small yard (in a mobile home park). I wouldn't have minded living in it if it was just me and a significant other. You just have to hope you have quiet neighbors.

I remember him saying that one of his neighbors was selling theirs for around $13,000 (this was the late 90's). There's also a monthly rental fee because it was a mobile home park, but it wasn't a big fee. Nowhere near the price of an apartment.

I've seen, and been intrigued by, several of these tiny house videos. At 6'4 I'm also prone to bumping my head on things above, so I'd need something designed for taller people. I don't even fit in most travel trailers. Presently I live alone in a four-bedroom house, and have pondered the idea of downsizing. The only problem is that around here, downsizing either means a war-time house (think tiny, and not designed to be tiny), a trailer (and the trailer courts can be, um, Trailer Park Boys-ish), or a money pit. In light of that, "home sweet home" (or is that "equity, sweet equity"?).

The thing is... if that hits, it won't matter if you're in a trailer or a shed or a brick home. It's going to totally demolish any structure it hits head-on that isn't underground. :eek:

A bigger house is easier to design because of the space allowance. A smaller one, is a challenge and it thrills me! I like to do everything possible for all my stuff to fit in my bedroom AND still make it look decent. I'm renting an apartment with 4 other friends (I'm sharing the rest of the apartment with them) and the owner doesn't allow us to drill holes! If I had that freedom, I'd have bought a bunk bed and made a small studio.

Also, if cost wasn't a problem, yeah I'd get a much bigger space and get an architect to design the whole thing! But if small space is the only option, I'd be just as content! Aaand I'd have more reasons to go out!

I was with someone long ago, and we ran into a tornado.. I happened to be driving and said tornado was going to cross the road ahead of us. in my best Worf impression I could do, I looked at said passenger and said "TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO DIE, PREPARE FOR RAMMING SPEED" and mashed the accelerator.

said 6'9" 300lbs passenger screamed like a 4 year old girl.

Lol, that is awesome. I have a story about a tornado that isn't as funny as that, but I thought it was pretty funny after the incident happened. I was in college one night in this classroom that was in the center of the building and had no windows, just doors to the hallway. We get a tornado warning and the teacher tells us he is going to let us out early from this safe room because he knows some of us drive around an hour to get back home.... I was driving home and suddenly 2 cars come speeding up behind me on this old Country road in this rainstorm where you could barely see. They were doing at least 100....I was worried a tornado was right behind them, so I kept looking back in panic. No tornado ever shows up behind me...so it appears they were drag racing.

A tree house is REALLY nice. A small one would do for me. Its hard to find a huge tree to make a huge tree house. Hehe...A big house feels so empty specially when you are alone. A place where you can sleep, eat and take a bath etc does'nt really require a lot of space.

If I had the funds, I would have a home base for all my things... and then would travel the world renting/living in all sorts of different housing options, such as a tree house, a riverboat, Victorian mansion, log cabin high in the mountains, etc. I get a free fix by browsing through some of the amazing options on the airb'n'b site.

I love living spaces... and seeing how people express themselves through their own personal residences.

I wonder what someone would do if they really wanted to live in a tree house but was afraid of heights...

Find a tree with a large base--and build the house a foot (0.3048 meter) off the ground?

Lol! That would still feel like a normal house but just a little weird. I've seen something like it and I wanted to ask the owner. "Whats that tree doing inside your house?

Probably not. I don't like small spaces, but I also don't like very large rooms either. They are both overwhelming! Somewhere in the middle is good. :)

I'm building a small cabin. 576 square foot when it's done. Plenty of room for me. It's a project and I don't get to work on it as much as I want to, but I'll finish it some day and move into it full time. The most fun for me is sorting through my stuff to figure out what I need.

I looked at a house like that, but it was only one floor, so tinyer. I wanted a free house with no neighbours, so the kids can just do what they want. But that was a bit too tiny. It was in someone's backyard and it still costed 650 euro a month. Tiny kitchen, no room for a couch, just 2 chairs and one small bedroom.

Wow! The more the merrier. I like big families because I came from a small family. I have only two siblings and one just got married and left.
