There has been a lot of scuttlebutt on cannabis/marijuana/weed over the years. I don't know a lot about it or the legal battle that has raged, but there has developed quite a dichotomy in U.S. culture over it - with one side stigmatizing it, and the other championing it.

So, question time!

  • What is your position on the "war" on marijuana? (Is it laudable? Is it pointless? Etc.)
  • Could you be romantically involved with someone that uses it, whether for recreation or for legitimate medical purpose(s)?
  • Would you befriend/fellowship with a person that uses it, whether for recreation or for legitimate medical purpose(s)?

Feel free to go beyond those questions if you have more to share. :)
God says everything He made is good but it also says we are to stay sober. So therefore at this point in my life I must conclude that drugs are not for recreational use. Being from Houston I can also tell you how dertmental drugs are. I have seen two people die from prescription drug overdoses. I know someone who actually missed an exit on the freeway and therefore while high on drugs decided to back up on the freeway and was killed in a car wreck. Me myself people may not believe this but I almost actually lost my soul. I have seen people spend all there money their parents left to them after they died. I've seen mothers crying for their children to get clean. I have thought about it along time and I have come to the conclusion that the person who sells drugs for profit to their life time friends as they hit rock bottom in their lives is in serious need of a heart. I guess what people don't understand is being Tony Montana and not expecting to be under the wrath of God is a myth.

Thanks for your thoughts, Eternallife.

The people I've conversed with on this, those that are against marijuana, seem to labor under the thought that recreational use is synonymous with abuse; that people are hardly capable of keeping it within reason. I guess that's fair to an extent, considering habits often take over most lives.

Again, appreciate the post - all of the posts. They're food for thought.

I wanted to share one more thing those two that died were brothers and they died a few months apart leaving their mother childless. One of them always said he would never touch any other drug besides pot. We hear stuff like free will and it seems to make since, however, when you really study the word God gives us a choice but it isn't free will. It is we can be servants of sin or servants of Christ. There is nothing free about that choice unless one chooses to serve Christ.

Okay, I don't expect this to get as much attention at this stage, but here's a new spin on the same subject for everyone:

I see the majority here are okay with prescribed medical use, but not recreational use. For those of you that feel this way, how do you feel about medical usage when it has not been prescribed by a medical professional? I.e., if someone bought it off the street with no permit, but truthfully used it for physical relief of some kind... would you still consider that okay/within reason? Or is the lack of medical oversight an issue?

You always hear of stories about people who have done this, desperate to help their loved ones and unable to obtain a prescription due to where they live, lack of insurance, etc. I cannot fault or judge them. I have no idea what I would do if my loved one were in terrible pain, and marijuana was the only thing that brought relief.
