I'm from Houston and I used to be around lots of it when I was younger. That being said we have an enemy and we are to be sober minded because he prowels around like a lion seeking whom he can devour. God say that everything he made is good, but he also tells us to be sober minded. So marijuana has to be meant for something else besides recreational use. Plus I watched a documentary about plants and the have lives and communicate with insects and stuff.

All of the great rock n roll singers and musicians probably smoked pot. If they didn't they'd all be like.... DEVO! (which might not be too bad I guess)

It's demonic. You open yourself for the spiritual realm and not God's. I had a pre/postnatal depression and they gave me prozac, so I called that psychiater that now I was totally demon posessed or completely insane and that I out of the blue really wanted to kill myself just for nothing, a kid not listening or my ex getting angry. He didn't believe it and doubled the dose, went on a holiday so I had all that stuff for a few weeks and the next day I was at the water side with an overdose. Luckily I had a phone and when I prayed the sinner's prayer God said I had to call and not take the rest, otherwise I was a hypocrit. They took me to a mental hospital where my ex dumped me and I ran off with a guy addicted to pot, so I used it too a few times. Luckily I couldn't have it without becoming sick, otherwise I had become addicted. First time I took it I saw these occult slogans or something, got totally weird and then 'God' so I thought told me I couldn't go back to my ex because now I was married to this guy. Lost my kids for a year, fell from my faith. Didn't even believe God existed anymore, lived together in sin for a year. So that's whyI believe it's demonic. Also a guy I dated and wanted to help him get rid of it, but he didn't want to, I just felt that demonic presence when I entered his house. Michael Brown said it's a gateway drug. He didn't notice anything when he took it. He needed other stuff. Great testimony he has btw.

Weed should be accepted for medical purposes.

Why?

- It works, but more importantly
- There are many, many LEGAL drugs already in use that are as bad or worse, both short- term and long term

I can't find any statistics on the fly, but I do belive there are more people in Norway addicted to prescribed drugs (i.e strong painkillers) than to illegal drugs.

OK. that being said: Don't do it to get "high"! It is NOT good for you. It is unlikely to make you crazy the way some other drugs do,
but if you smoke pot and drive you are "drunk", so you could easily kill someone because your reaction time is way longer than normal.
If you use "speed" or psychoactive drugs you can get aggressive, or just overconfident, and hurt yourself or others. So stay away!
And even if there is no accident, it messes with your brain, and long term you could get psychotic.

Also, as long as i.e. weeds remain illegal, I think alcohol should be banned, even though I occasionally have an alcoholic beer myself

I had a conversation with a christian mother from brazil. She has 3 young kids.
We talked about the future and what it looked like for the youngsters. She felt afraid because of the sexual and drug culture all around. She said simply her family had no exposure to drugs at all.

I then went on to talk about alcohol and how easy it is to do serious damage to your liver only drinking 1 or 2 glasses of wine a day.

Then it came out 2 uncles had died from alcohol related illnesses and another was an alcoholic.
It is the drug few honestly talk about, as if it is socially acceptable to be lost in it.

The Lord didn't put us on earth to walk around in a drug-induced daze. He has a life awaiting each one of us.

Something I am worried about is if Obama legalizes weed in the entire u.s. then we have a bad situation, people have a hard enough time not drinking and driving and I know for a fact especially here in Oklahoma that most people text and drive but smoke weed and driving?

Obama cannot legalize anything without a bill passed by both the House and the Senate as smoking pot is currently a federal offense. I don't see this happening anytime soon. What may happen is that a lot of states will go ahead and pass their own legalization and then ignore the current federal statute as it is practically unenforceable.

It's legalized here..for medicinal use, anyway. Gotta have a script for it though.

There has been a lot of scuttlebutt on cannabis/marijuana/weed over the years. I don't know a lot about it or the legal battle that has raged, but there has developed quite a dichotomy in U.S. culture over it - with one side stigmatizing it, and the other championing it.

So, question time!

  • What is your position on the "war" on marijuana? (Is it laudable? Is it pointless? Etc.)
  • Could you be romantically involved with someone that uses it, whether for recreation or for legitimate medical purpose(s)?
  • Would you befriend/fellowship with a person that uses it, whether for recreation or for legitimate medical purpose(s)?

Feel free to go beyond those questions if you have more to share. :)
WHOA - this can fire people up! So do I answer??????

Fine - HERE ARE MY POSITIONS - Please note every one has a right to their belief system on this.

1.) Coke was once made with Cocaine - yet it became legal and still has a lot of additives and sugar that people are addicted to - Just saying! That being said I have no problem with it for medical purposes and I have personally seen people whom are dying have relief from it. I HAVE NEVER partaken of it, though I have been in many rooms filled with it. I have seen the mind isn't of it normal self, but it helps with pain receptors.

2.) Probably not - I was in my youth! However I like a man with intelligence, communicates and thinks outside the box. A few puffs in the intelligence dissipates! So it never lasted.

3.) NO!!! That is their choice! I do not support it, they will no my feelings. However that would be like befriending someone because they smoke or drink moonshine or take to many prescription drugs. I would have a serious conversation with them and i would not be around them when they are in this state. God loves us all, so if they want to harm themselves, why would I judge them?

I have personally had a family member dying and in so much pain who received a prescription and the difference was amazing. God created the herb. Its the point of proper medical use.

Weed should not be legalized. It should be regulated for medicinal use only. I dated someone who said he was using weed for medicinal purposes only. He even showed me his prescription. But I had a hard time believing him. He was also trying to be sober from meth and used weed instead. I just cant trust him . I'm not sure if I can date or befriend someone who smokes weed again. Maybe I will just be more logical and more careful not to be too attached if I cant avoid them. I still believe there are people who have good character but just too prone and too weak to overcome their addictions successfully. I've been addicted to caffeine too but when I was hospitalized due to GERD and heartburn. I was able to stop. Dont wait for a wake up call. Just wake up.

Personally, I think it is a sad situation that people feel the need to use drugs socially to escape reality.

However, people seem to reckon that some of these drugs have medical benifits. Then maybe more studies should be done.. cocaine etc is used in the medical world. Pot could be next, or atleast the properties that are relevant.

Well I do think pot can have medical benefits, but want to say a few things before I give an example of how it was for me. First I used pot for most of my life for fun, so my view is more than likely a little bias. I grew up in a world of drugs, dealing, fighting, just the bottom of the societal barrel if you will, so my perspective on it will be different than someone that's grown up in the church, or never used anything. To this day I don't see weed as inherently evil, or as a “deadly sin”, even though I do see it as unwise for many, if not most, especially young folks using it just for fun as I did for so long. Of every drug I've ever done, sold, or been around, including alcohol, weed is in a class of its own, and absolutely the least destructive by far in my opinion. Not that I'm saying that "justifies" it's use or necessarily makes it "better” or anything, but in real world application and my life experience, it’s by far the least likely to cause harm or any major problems for the most part, (aside from legal) and again is does not make it OK, or "all good".

The real thing I want to point out is that after a horrible pain pill addiction I was in an accident and lost complete use of my dominate right arm. It was a brachial plexus avulsion, which means the nerve that controls the arm and chest was ripped out of the spine, roots and all. Well one of the symptoms this causes is excruciating and almost constant pain. I'm not sure how when there is no nerve to take the signal to the brain, I imagine it's something like the phantom pain amputees experience, but my arm constantly felt like it was on fire while being crushed in a vice all day every day. It was tough honestly, and after being addicted to pain pills and not wanting to go back down that road at all, and the fact they didn't actually help the kind of pain I was experiencing, one of the only things I found any kind of relief from the pain was smoking weed. It by no means eliminated the pain, but it helped a lot more than the pain pills. That is how it medically benefited me personally, but I also feel the need to add that the Spirit has now led me away from using it even for that now.

Now I kind of look at the pain (that has subsided a great deal) like the “thorn in my side”, and when the pain flares up now I use it as a reminder to pray thanks to God for the whole “arm” experience, because it was that trial that led me to His truth and salvation. I know that was a long answer to my main point of how weed actually did help me greatly in a medical way, but I love sharing this to give God the glory and share His power in my life.

I lived in a state in which prescriptions for Ritalin and marijuana were handed out like candy. "Medicinal Use Only" can be a very fine line. The people I knew who had scripts were using it for recreation but their "medicinal use" was back pain and headaches, and who in this world today DOESN'T have back pain and headaches?

A few years ago I went to two doctors for various ailments and wound up with 6 prescriptions in my hand, none of which were formerly illegal, but I was astonished at how the answer to absolutely everything is a pill. I suppose it comes as no surprise though, because how many of us would have few to no medical issues at all if we did what every health report says to do? (Eat right, exercise, get enough sleep.) But so many times, we need "fast and easy" solutions.

I threw most of those prescriptions away and now just deal with the symptoms as they are, as I try to only take meds when absolutely necessary.

I DO feel very sorry for people who suffer from chronic pain though, and if I ever become one of those people, I would hope there would be some safe, non-addictive, affordable, and yes, legal, options.

have a hard time myself with this subject. My opinions are mine. I think it's a case by case subject determined by the people that use it and their experince with it. I do feel it's a " gateway " so to speak because folks who deal in it, will usually deal in other things, I know " I have " see my testimony. I wouldn't give wine to a child yet Jesus drank wine. I try to find the innocence in all things, as Jesus related to children when He said the kingdom of God is for children as these. So.. What I'm getting at here is I think if a child has cancer and marijuana helps, awesome, I think if someone is in control of their actions and mind while smoking at home or in a casual setting, I don't mind it, if it helps people who supposedly get " prescribed " Marijuana in the new legal states and old ones " Cali ". I never heard of anyone over dosing on marijuana either.

70% of America is on prescription pills and there's tons of reasons why, I don't like alcohol to much, I smoke cigarettes ugh! I wouldn't go to a doctor for some chemicals they've put together with pharma buddies " even if I get sharp back pain from injury ". I think opiates and depression type drugs like zanx is a big problem because it's been accepted as normal for the public to have a script full from a doc. It's acceptable to have chemicals control the way we talk and feel. Then the big prob is herion, cocaine, extacsy, meth, ...and so on, these drugs kill people everyday.

Talking about drugs ...anyone ever heard of DMT?

If a person has control of their judgment, and know what's going on around them to a tee, I see no problem with unique cases, depends on the individual. It's when our judgment is impaired is where problems begin, being out of control in more then one way, rather the person addictive state is out of control, stealing to support the habits or mentally out of control, doing things they would never do otherwise. Also if it changes your serotonin and melatonin that controls your feelings, so 70% of America on prescription pills, is out of control so to speak.

That's a good point. I wonder if this is being combated somehow in the medical field (i.e. improved/more stringent screening process, restrictions on permits/licenses, etc.).

Here in California, we have one of the largest - if not, the largest - dispensaries of medical marijuana in the nation (U.S.). They're in and out of federal court, but are in compliance with state law, and seem to have a fairly rigorous and exact screening process. It seems like a potentially viable model for the business practice of facilitating the drug (with discretion) and in educating people about it.

I do respect the opinions here; thanks to everyone chiming in. My own is that I'm dubious that this "war on marijuana" is conducive in any way. Legalization may ultimately be a positive thing - at least economically; socially it's kind of a mixed bag. The moral position on it is really something to each their own.

This whole thing with marijuana has become such a "thing" in our culture that I find the stigma, the legality, the dichotomy, etc. kind of interesting. I made the thread to get some dialogue going on and even some education, definitely not to arouse drama or fulfill an agenda.

Thanks again!

Living in Colorado I know that the medical marijuana industry (prior to the recreational legalization) was abused. I knew of a couple of persons who were frequent MJ users that went in to an MD and complaining about chronic pain of some sort just so they could get a MMJ card. The benefit they received was being able to legally posses what they were using anyway, and being able to legally grow their own at home (major cost savings) and even sell a bit on the side (illegal) for some spare cash.

I figure no matter what the drug, some persons are going to abuse their access to them yet I don't hear people saying we should just remove access to Percoset because some people fake an ailment to get it. We here in the US have a growing problem with persons addicted to prescription pain pills of all types and as a result faking medical issues to keep their supply coming.

The "war on drugs" has turned criminals into organized criminals. It's a pointless war.

The war on drugs should be taught in the home; Not "enforced" by our legislation. The pharmaceutical industry is just as corrupt (if not more) than drug cartels. Sure their crimes against humanity are different, but they are nevertheless just as harmful and destructive.

I'm for the legalization of drugs, but I'd advocate against it's usage recreationally. I don't drink alcohol or smoke (never even tried it), but I think people should have the right to drink alcohol if they want. Marijuana is no different... if anything, marijuana is less harmful than alcohol in a multitude of ways.

The problem ultimately is a result of the break down of the family and the proper teaching of their children. In a hypothetical world where everyone who had children taught them biblical teachings/standards, who would the drug cartels be selling drugs to?
