I like the word 'cute' but I don't really know what it means, as I have been called 'cute' numerous times as a kid and teenager (when I was short) by girls my age (at the time) and a little older. But they never considered me in a romantic sense, so I don't know what was going on. Haha!

That's kind of why it's a safe word to use... you know you've been paid some kind of compliment, but you have no idea in what sense it was given.

Hmm, well. I would prefer a guy to just be himself. Flirting isn't necessary...in fact, I would greatly prefer the person DIDN'T flirt if that wasn't really who they are. "Be yourself...everyone else is already taken." :D Flirting isn't the goal, and it won't help you in a crisis; focus instead on being a person well-rooted in Christ with a strong relationship with him.

As for telling how to tell if someone is flirting with you...it is different with every person you meet. Some people could be really "flirty" and never mean a thing by it or even be aware that it is coming across that way, others even the most careful observer would barely be able to tell.

You'll probably hear "cute" more than "handsome" or "attractive" because cute is in many ways more informal, and as such seems to be more noncommittal (all of which fits in with the very definition of most "flirting"), feels like it has fewer strings attached, and is therefore safer to use if the feeling isn't reciprocated.
Nope, she calls me "handsome". :p

While I don't "see" things as she does, I realize that she has the right to an opinion and have learned to respect and accept her compliments.

Ah, man, you're so cute!

(If a dude says it to ya and means it, my suggestion is to leave...like yesterday!)

Girls, girls, girls! Haha! You so silly.

Yes, I've had guys occasionally crack onto me and I have to say that I don't swing that way.

This brings up an interesting side note to flirting: the perception of the recipient. I don't want to pick on Vens, but I have noticed that, in very generalized terms, people tend to perceive flirting from others whom they find attractive as pleasant, but flirting from others whom they don't find attractive as creepy.

Anyone care to weigh in on this?
I was joking, but you're absolutely right :)

I was taken back by Vens's comment.

It sorta seemed to imply that if you're not cute, you can't flirt.

If that's what she is suggesting, there is still a lot of learning to be done for that 20 year old.

Fortunately, we don't all have the same perception of what's beautiful and attractive.

Also, in my case, I don't want to be called "cute". "Cute" is a word I associate with women. I can more easily accept "handsome" or "attractive" because they are at least masculine words to me.
I was honestly joking, I'm really sorry if I've offended you. It's incredibly difficult to convey tone over text.
P.S- I'll try not to call you cute :)

Flirting skills becomes automatic in times of emergency. That is when you meet someone you are really attracted to. I have no flirting skills and I dont assume when someone is flirting with me unless he makes it perfectly clear that he likes me because normally men are intimidated by me. I asked my ex why did he flirt with me, he said there was something sweet in the way I treated him. I said what? Really? I am actually not a sweet person. Maybe I learned how to flirt and be sweet when I needed to because I liked him.

I am am younger then you are, and remember just because something is "execptable", does not make it right.
Nothing is execptable, Batman. :p

What clearly and definitely makes "dudette" wrong?

Flirting is very risky for guys.

Its ok for women to flirt though. For example a woman can say, "My what strong hands you have. I never would have been able to lift that myself." And the guy would just be like, "Thanks" :D

..but if I guy says something like, "My what beautiful eyes you have. I bet you can spot a whale from half a mile away." The girl might be like, "Get away from me creep!"
not true! only smart mature women will feel contented with compliments

the only thing i can tell you from past experiences in my life I would stare at who you like or interested in sometimes and smile .. make conversation when you can with them and throw a compliment once in a while .. maybe ask for the number when you have enough courage after conversations but dont be like hey give me your number the first time take it slow .. have good timing
