If its india in general that will be wrong. To get a date is different depending on the circumstance.
To get a date can be official too...so there is no fixed meaning..
As vast as India is, so is its socio-cultural diversity. Even the NE region that seems quite homogeneous to an outsider have their own diversified cultural norms and practices. As such, I could not possibly be talking about India in general. I was simply referring to the cultural understanding and practices of a particular place/community I come from w.r.t to "dating".

Dating and courtship are two loaded words. Many Christians don't even know what they are. They think dating is evil and courtship is good, but it's not that simple. What is dating? What is courtship? We need to establish those definitions first.
Exactly....and lets remember too, that everyone has a different definition of what dating and courtship entails LOL

Yes, there are some (very less percentage) who go for arranged marriage but its totally different from the kind of arranged marriage done in other parts of India. For us, arranged marriage is done between two people who have known each other for long and in most instances, the guy usually likes the girl a LOT but without getting reciprocal feeling from the girl. So, either the parents/relatives of the guy or the guy himself (after much waiting) approaches the girls parents/relatives for her hand in marriage. And if the parents approve of the guy, they will somehow convince the girl to marry him. So, ours (arranged marriage) is not totally coming of two strangers for marriage.

From a Western perspective, anyway, the strangers coming together thing that you mention is very, very strange.

Blessings.
