Note to self: Never, ever, ever buy candy from any store Conversationand runs.

I mean really, any chocolate lover is gonna catch on real fast. This is what we do, chocolate is life. We WILL notice the discrepancy and we ain't gonna be back to YOUR store, no way. :p

Here's a simple challenge.

Would you rather have a one 18 inch pizza, or two 12 inch pizzas?

Choose wisely and no using Google.

I don't do "or". I do "and". I'll have both the 18" and the 2 12" pizzas, and you can calculate your Pi*r^2 to your heart's content while I eat your pizzas. Nom, nom, nom.

18x18 = 324 sq. in.

12x12 = 144 sq. in.

144x2 = 288 sq. in

Winner is the 18" pizza at 324 sq. in.!!

(I know that's not how u calculate the area of a circle, but I'm not about to try and figure out "pi times radius squared" :p)

The 18 inch pizza has 254.46 inches of cheesy goodness. The two 12 inch pizzas only have 226.19 square inches between them (and two twelve inches would have more crust than an 18 inch.) The 18 inch wins.

But either way you're a glutton if you eat it all...

Can't you just ask for a "glutton-free" pizza? :D

After all, that seems to be all the rage these days. :)

Addison, my dear friend, i have to go with the 2 twelve inch.

the girls want cheese only, and the husband wants sausage and green pepper.

peace in the family comes at a price!

Yes those are the little $1 micro-frisbees in the grocer's freezer case. Takes two of them to make a decent meal and you always have to add more cheese to the poor things. But one, just as it is, that would be a very glutton-free pizza. And very inexpensive too.

Oh... or did you mean gluten free? That's not nearly as cheap I'm afraid...

Yes... I was trying to make a play on words ("glutton-free" vs. "gluten-free"), you big goofus (goofball + doofus.) :p

Yes I was aware of the wordplay. I only mentioned it so I could remark that they are not nearly as cheap.

I'm trending towards the glutton-free pizza, stuffed crust with a bunch of toppings.

Hey Everyone,

Since we seem to have a few nibbles of interest in another thread, how about a thread in which math problems are presented for other users to solve?

All are welcome to answer, whether you show your work or not, but I would like to ask that for those who can, please show us how you came up with your answer so that the rest of us can learn. :)

We'll see how it goes. When one problem has been answered several times, maybe we'll then try opening the floor to present another problem. Hopefully this will be a bit of a challenge as well as some fun for all you mathematically gifted folks. :) As I said in another thread, I love the idea that some of the God-given skills others may have made fun of some of you for... Are considered totally cool here!

I hope we all have a great time in this thread!

Our very own MollyConnor has generously provided us with the first problem:

And, to get this party started right, I'll end this first post with a math pun:

(This pun kind of reminds me of all my OP's... :D)

Thanks for participating and I'm looking forward to learning some amazing things!!
9 - 6.75 = 2.25
10.50 - 6.75 = 3.75

2.25 / 3.75 = 0.6 = 3/5
3/5 for caramel
2/5 for cream

6.75(2) + 10.50(3) = 45
45 / 5 = 9
