For a lot of down to earth people, Olive Garden is as fancy as it gets. Admittedly... that's kinda where I'm at. I'm a simple man of simple tastes, and I don't see the point in selling a kidney in order to afford a meal at a trendy place where they give you a pepperoni slice worth of meat and drizzle some sauce on it and call it a meal.

People propose in the strangest places. Honestly, it comes down to the personality of the couple. Some gals like to be the center of attention and have a big deal made out of it all. Other couples are more private and don't want a bunch of randos watching and ogling the goings-on.
What is wrong with Olive Garden?? Geez.. talk about 1st world problems.

I suspect I'm not much of a romantic! I'd be happy with no theatrics, just she and me coming to the conclusion that our matching was God made, so let's just wander down to the government office and make it official, and give each other a big hug, and get on with life together. 😊

If the guy ordered whip cream to go on the strawberry sauce she would probably say 'yes'.
Better be at the official Waffle House then. The cheap knock-off, Huddle House, uses some kind of junk they whipped up from a powder. Blech! That's a sure way to get yourself rejected.

Yeah they do. That's a big, bright, shiny "BACK OFF!!"
If the guy needs a ring to tell other guys to back off, there's an insecurity issue there. Either he needs to find a better girl or she needs to find a better guy. :p

Absolutely, only the official Waffle House will do.

Our friend Pippy definitely deserves a ring! If some guy asks for her hand in marriage without one, we will beat him up!:ROFL:
@Pipp is a sweetheart and she definitely is deserving of a ring, preferably diamond. She is an excellent baker and probably could make and decorate her own three-tier wedding cake.

The guy has to take into consideration that the girl will want to share the picture of her with the diamond ring on Instagram.😁❤️😍

I would say you about nailed it bro. Feeling to lazy to actually look up the exact facts. If just going by memory recalls. The diamond industry had fallen on hard times. So they called in a guy who was legendary for his advertisement campaigns.

The bacon industry some years prior was on the ropes and he had come up with a campaign to change bacon from dinner which is when it was mainly eaten back then to a breakfast food.

So it was WW2 and he came up with the slogan a diamond is forever, which of course a lot of gals were engaged cause a war was on.

So if my memory is not failing me I do believe it was something along those lines.
Apologies Lynx, my memory failed me it was Frances Gerety, she was the one who came up with the slogan a diamond is forever.

I attributed it to Edward Bernays, whose name I could not recall. However, he did save the bacon industry. He also came up with contest for companies, such as P&G had hired him to boost their soap sales. So he came up with a contest have folks buy their ivory bar soap and carve figurines or what have you out of it and then give prizes according to who won.

He came up with the Art in Industry medal. As well as the tobacco industry had come to him in the 20's and wanted to boost sales and figured they would be able to do so if women would just start smoking. Smoking was seen as masculine so women were avoiding doing so. So since women had just won the right to vote. He came up with a campaign saying that when women lighted up cigarettes they were lighting up the torch of freedom for their hard fought rights. He was hired by Coolidge to run his presidential campaign. Just a host of things and products he made big.

The most infamous thing though would be he was so successful that Josef Goebbels constructed his Ministry of Propaganda on the way he would use psychology to drive peoples buying habits.

So my apologies I got the two of them mixed up at it Frances Gerety who coined a diamond is forever and turned around the diamond industry.

But I thought Waffle House was ALREADY seen as being cheap...

How can you have a cheap knock-off of something that's already considered cheap?

Next thing you know, they're going to come out with generic products of things that are already generic. :sneaky::whistle::geek:

Nah... big indicator to me, for example, to not try to talk to someone.

That's good on you, but it doesn't always work that way.

Sadly some guys and even some gals see an engagement or wedding ring/band as a challenge to pursue.

This world can seriously be a messed up place at times.

These things are important to most women and they will appreciate your efforts to make it special.

I would not suggest Olive Garden. Research proposal ideas and get some good examples. My brother in laws wife was a school teacher, he worked with the principle to be allowed to propose over the PA system and then walked into her class room and took a knee in front of her in her class with all her students screaming.

Many women may say yes at Olive Garden and try not to let it bother them, but when you get in a fight 10 years from now they will bring it up like it was not the best way it could have been done. And then you'll be like... "you've been thinking about this for 10 years!" LOL

what, was he a teacher too?

I just cant imagine that happening in my school where some random person proposes to one of the teachers over the PA.

In the olden days teachers were not even allowed to be married.

Yes Waffle House is already a cheap knockoff. Huddle House is even cheaper. Sad but true.

Now I'm thinking of all the terrible places a guy could propose in: McDonalds, a sporting event, another wedding, in a hospital...I feel bad for men now. They really do need to do some homework before they propose.
