And - yes - I know that we should not be 'obsessed' with it to the point of imbalance; however, it is also true that some people dedicate themselves to it because most others do not - and someone needs to ... for the sake of others...

I have at least one gallon of water in the trunk of my car at all times. I know how to gut/clean a lot of animals, and start a fire.

I've been through hurricanes where we've lost power, grocery store shelves empty, gas stations out of fuel, etc.
I'm not worried about going hungry..maybe I'm naive, but the body can go a pretty long time without food.

The idea of death doesn't scare me so much as not being spiritually prepared, or just being brutally tortured and murdered by a psychopath.
