Each person has their own convictions. We can not tell anther person what they should feel or think about anything. If we were all the same then we would be boring. God is the only one who can place conviction in our hearts.

Yes, those movies do have a certain portrayal of witchcraft and other evil things that is deemed unacceptable to some. However, as a person who does not have the temptation to want to live that kind of lifestyle I only see them as they are a form of entertainment. Now someone who does have a past that dealt along those lines would find it hard to watch those kinds of movies because of the temptation to follow that kind of lifestyle. That is why they feel convicted about watching certain movies.

So, just because someone feels convicted about watching those kind of movies, doesn't mean they can try to force their convictions on others.

Sorry for the rant. I am just fed up with everyone trying to tell others what they should think.

I was just going to say something like this. :)
While we can't say HP is a christian book, if you know the context of the story, it actually has good morals like friendship, loyalty, and love. Love is always mentioned as the most powerful force. JK Rowling considers herself as a christian still struggling with her faith, but at least you can see some christian values ( Except for the whole witchcraft and magic thing, that by the way, I find it very stereotypical).

I don't recommend the book to someone who is struggling with faith and tempted by magic and things like this. But if this is something that doesn't make you struggle with your faith, I don't see how it can affects you. Some people see it and just grab the good message of it. SOME people, not everyone. It's personnal. Paul said something like this in Romans ( of course not about movies, but I think it can apply)
I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 14:14

Some parts of the movie actually reminded me of Jesus (JUST REMINDED ME, IM NOT SAYING THE MOVIE IS CHRISTIAN) . For instance: Harry's mom died for him. Because she shed her blood for him, Voldemort couldn't kill Harry and the spell didn't work with him. Harry is protected by her blood and her sacrifice and lived because of that sacrifice.

Good words, KayM . :) And, a lot of you said GO(o)d words :)

_______ Not only should seeing this movie be seen to ONLY uplift others to Christ, EVERYTHING in your life should be done for the GLORY OF GOD.

Yes, indeed, as others have said, we ALL have our cruxes and weaknesses in life, now the idea of magic and witchcraft is indeed a force of Satan. No doubt. BUT, that does NOT mean we should not go into the places that are always ONLY good, those that can (and God will let you KNOW if you can) should go. The power of God is greater than the power in the world, which is scripture, paraphrased but it's dead-set content of scripture and we should NOT take lightly this truth. God will never leave you nor forsake you and you just NEVER know down what path of darkness God will take you.

So, IF you have kids, I would pray heavily for your being able to glean wisdom from the sorcery and demonization of the Harry Potter movie's message in the midst of its love, loyalty, friendship, resilience, power, and, other themes, for you MUST be able to tell your children what is right. And, that goes for you UNCLES and AUNTS out there, you too MUST be able to explain what is the RIGHT way of things and the things that seem soooo good, like magic, and monsters, are things that YOU must creatively use to help others understand The Truth, that is one way you can do what God says we should do in EVERYTHING we do. To God goes ALL the glory. Every thing. Everything :)

Don't judge your christan brothers and sisters on here and do not retort with things that can cause your christian brothers and sisters to stumble, for that is not God.

Keep in mind, YOU do not know what another person's life is meant to do, some are MEANT to get tattoos on their arms, of things like crosses or dracula or dragons or whatever 'dark,' or, 'light,' even. To reach the lost, some lost, only a certain 'found' person will be able to go those depths. God has YOUR personal life all ready to go, known since you were before-born (Psalms 139)

Again, everything you do is to bring glory to who?

God! Whom you are to have a personal relationship with, through the befriending power given you by God ,which was given Jesus right before he was human and was tempted three different ways by Satan. That power , of course, is the power of the Holy Spirit. :)

God bless !

The Lord leads your life . Right? So what does he say to you reguarding the spellcastings of Harry Potter?
That's what matters, right. What does God tell you?
I mean, if you got God in your heart #1 then everything else will flow from that Love.

Because, ultimátely, sin is simply something that hurts others or ourselves, or, both, and, of course, our sin always hurts God. So, in other words , from the evil, magical, good, powerful, deathly content of Harry Potter WHAT comes out of that viewing of an HP flick for your mind?
Do you go off and have witchical sex with someone pre-maritally, or do you, show a quick temper, or, do you just , suddenly, be guilty feeling ???
Do any of those things and you def are not gleaning good things from an HP watching.
But, if you watch Harry Potter and then take a presentatiin to your church singles group and speak scripturally on the good, the evils, and, the undead unfoldings of that movie. That is definitely a GOOD reason to watch this movie. A God reason too :)

But, make no mistake, Harry Potter and any other movie for that matter is NOT for entertaining you, it is meant to, great or small way, meant to bring glory to God.

In all things, bring glory to God, think scripture saya and sure we all sin and talking SHORT of God's glory but the confession daily to God and communion with Him takes care of everything. Sin slate wiped clean.
So go now to the phone of God (kneel and pray, right now) and pray for Him to use ANY movie, not just HP ones, to glorify Him. And, don't worry, in that humbling proceso, doing, no doubt He will, in His timing thoroughly bless you.

I hope to see the last two.
I have seen all the others now.

What if someone did all 3 forbidden curses on you and noone knew about it...
what would you do when you had finished suffering and miraculously survived.
Maybe go to one of the teachers and hope they are one of the good ones that you can trust for help...
hmmm...
