I'm at work so I just dropped by for a second in chat and I heard Abigail singing in the lounge. Nice voice Abi. ☺ So what else happened? What did we miss?

Even though I didn't participate as much as I wanted to, I still had fun :)

Perhaps we could do this again?

Suggestion:

Post in this thread what days and times during the week you feel may be good for you to be in chat. For day-of-week simplicity, post only in GMT.

Posted data can be compiled to determine the most-likely day-and-time-of-the-week ( as a range or span ) that most - or, the highest number of - CC members can attend.

Just a thought...

If you think this is asking too much, you could get away with posting according to your time zone ( as long as it is clearly indicated ) and it could be converted later... ;)

The idea here is to see if a - 'regular' - "singles" - meet-up day / time of the week can be established.

I actually managed to stay awake for this, although I almost fell asleep in the end. Nice meeting you all in the lounge. I hope we can do it again soon.

GaryA: I don't know about regular. We're about as irregular as it gets. Maybe some metamucil would help...

But yeah, I'm gonna pop in chat after w*rk tonight. If I don't have to w*rk over I should get there about 5pm CST.

Sorry guys... I have a lot of thoughts to share so I'm going to break them up into several posts to make them easier to read.

It was super cool to see so many of you last night!!!! I must admit that I also have a bit of an obsession with voices, so I loved being able to hear a few people as well.

We stayed in the Lounge, so that even people without subscriptions could be there but they can't get on the mic. There was also the minor complication that with it being the Lounge, we couldn't talk as just a group by ourselves (which of course was to be expected), but we met some other people that way, which is always cool.

What I'd really love to do is have some times where a bunch of us who already know each other from Singles could come and hang out. I'm going to have to brainstorm on this a bit, even though, with my schedule, it might take a while, so don't expect anything soon. If we have our Singles group all together, we don't have to completely "start from scratch" --we already know a little about someone here and there, and it'll be easier to start conversations.

So... (continued)

Gary, thanks for the suggestions on how to compile data and organize times.

I've been thinking it'll be easier if I talk to some others about times they could be there, including in very different time zones (I'm looking at you, Miss Abigail), so that we'd have one or two people who could act as hosts to at least greet people who come in.

Once I have a couple of times set up with them, I would then make a thread in the form of a poll that would list the times we planned to meet up--people could vote for which ones worked for them, and we'd pick maybe the top 2 that would get the most attendance.

I know this isn't going to seem fair to some, because they'll say they can't make any of the times, but I don't want to turn this into a full-time job for anyone who steps up to help organize the times. ANYONE can meet up at ANYTIME in the lounge, and anyone can PM another member to agree to meet there at the same time, so no one needs organizers to plan anything. The only difference that I know of is that subscribers can't talk on the mic.

I am also thinking I might do a poll to see who has subscriptions and who could meet in Singles, and we could have some meetups there. It sure would be nice to get into our own room once in a while where it would be just us, though other people can come and go.

I think I'm pretty much the same in chat as in the forums, except... (continued)

Post 3...

One of the things I enjoy about a chat is that you get to see a different dynamic to people's personalities.

The only reason I share so much in my beginning posts when I make a thread is because that's the only way it seems to get the conversation going. In chat, I just ask the questions without explaining so much and then sit back, and watch people fly! Since most people prefer speaking to typing, it's cool to be able to hear them share a bit more on the mic.

People probably noticed as well that Lynx is the one who can keep the chats going--I kind of like to hover in the background and throw out a discussion topic or two when it's possible. I didn't do it as much last night because the group in the Lounge had the floor and we were respectful of that.

As I said, I also love hearing people's voices, and part of the fun last night was that many people said that such-and-such member sounded completely different than what they had pictured. :D Always a good time! :)

RoboOp (the owner of the site) was also there for a while, and we learned some exciting news that might be helpful for meetups in the future: (continued)

I only caught part of it last night, but Robo was telling us that they're going to start offering the option for people to host their own chat rooms for $50 a month. I don't know how it all works yet, and I would imagine it'll take some time for them to get it running and smooth out the bugs.

But as I understand it, if you rent your own room, it will allow CC members to come in EVEN if they DON'T have a subscription. This means that ANYONE who is available could come in, whether you have regular subscription privileges or not. If this becomes an option, and it's available a la carte (for a month at a time and NOT required to subscribe for a whole year), I would be happy to rent us a chat room for the first month (I'd take care of the cost), and people could come and go as they wanted.

We could also set up planned times when hopefully as many people could come as possible, EVEN IF THEY DON'T HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION. I know a lot of people are going through really hard times, and this would give EVERYONE a chance if they were available and can get into the room on their electronic devices.

After that, we'd have to see. Maybe we could do group efforts now and then to raise enough to rent another chat room in the future if we wanted (if we all gave $2 or $3--I think we had close to 15 people there last night--it would add up pretty fast.)

It's the next best thing to a real live meetup!! (Not to mention a whole lot cheaper.)

I'll figure out the details as they come and let you all know. I'm not sure how moderating would go... Lynx said he might be able to act as our room mod if it came to that. I'll have to figure out all the logistics as we come along. I would definitely set any available safeguards into action if possible in case, let's say, we had some stray person wander in drunk and try to take over (which I've seen happen before.)

I'll keep you posted as we learn more! Now, it might take me so long to set up that our current crowd moves on and no one is interested anymore, BUT WE CAN AT LEAST TRY!!! :D

So, in conclusion (continued...)
