I only caught part of it last night, but Robo was telling us that they're going to start offering the option for people to host their own chat rooms for $50 a month. I don't know how it all works yet, and I would imagine it'll take some time for them to get it running and smooth out the bugs.
But as I understand it, if you rent your own room, it will allow CC members to come in EVEN if they DON'T have a subscription. This means that ANYONE who is available could come in, whether you have regular subscription privileges or not. If this becomes an option, and it's available a la carte (for a month at a time and NOT required to subscribe for a whole year), I would be happy to rent us a chat room for the first month (I'd take care of the cost), and people could come and go as they wanted.
We could also set up planned times when hopefully as many people could come as possible, EVEN IF THEY DON'T HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION. I know a lot of people are going through really hard times, and this would give EVERYONE a chance if they were available and can get into the room on their electronic devices.
After that, we'd have to see. Maybe we could do group efforts now and then to raise enough to rent another chat room in the future if we wanted (if we all gave $2 or $3--I think we had close to 15 people there last night--it would add up pretty fast.)
It's the next best thing to a real live meetup!! (Not to mention a whole lot cheaper.)
I'll figure out the details as they come and let you all know. I'm not sure how moderating would go... Lynx said he might be able to act as our room mod if it came to that. I'll have to figure out all the logistics as we come along. I would definitely set any available safeguards into action if possible in case, let's say, we had some stray person wander in drunk and try to take over (which I've seen happen before.)
I'll keep you posted as we learn more! Now, it might take me so long to set up that our current crowd moves on and no one is interested anymore, BUT WE CAN AT LEAST TRY!!!
So, in conclusion (continued...)
