I'm thinking the idea of speed dating is just to increase your exposure to more people at once as opposed to trying to get to know faceless/voiceless strangers online one at a time, which is usually a bust anyway.

I would look at it like a singles fellowship where I'm given the opportunity to introduce myself to numerous gents, one by one. That's cool. And then I'd look at the rapid-fire Q&A as a game where I try to see who I can get to smile the most.

Howdy. My name's Isaac and I like music a lot. If me singing to myself at any given time is likely to irritate you then we should end this conversation now and wait for the signal to switch partners.

Of course there could be more information depending on how much time is allotted. But that is the bare essentials.

do you also sing random songs because someone says a phrase with a lyric in it and your brain automatically connects the phrase to the lyric and then it must come out in song form?

Cause I do what you said plus what I said and it drives my kids nuts.

Married 17. Single 1. So I'm a pro at being married and a total novice at being single. I am the healthiest I've ever been spiritually, emotionally, physically...I feel great. Then, there's dating. I'm just dipping my toe in and am like...what. No thanks.
Yeah, a year is not very long at all... I think I joined eHarmony at the year mark, and really scared myself with how not ready I was. You'll know when the time is right for dating. Until then, enjoy learning about yourself! It's amazing to see what interests we might have, apart from a husband. Self-discovery is awesome!

Actially, my self discovery phase really isn't a thing I need. My situation was unique because I had an ex who was very introverted and didn't ever want to do anything with anyone, ever. Not to mention, I let go of him over the last 10 years of the marriage. I knew for that long he wanted a divorce. Basically, I've had lots of time for that. I decided long ago I wasn't going to let him not doing anything stop me from doing anything. I went and did with or without him.

I think for me, it's more, an overwhelming, foreign process. It won't matter if it's been a year or five. My ex was my only bf. So I've never really dated. I've got no clue what's going on. For me, I would be totally cool dating if someone just fell into my lap and we clicked. It's this idea of searching bit by bit that weirds me out.

Yes that is part of it. I tell people my brain seems to be index-linked to my music collection and they should not be surprised if anything they say reminds me of a song.

On the other hand, in high school music class there was a board game we played where we would have a word and we had to come up with a song that had the word in it. I was the one they all wanted on their team.

Yesssss. That's awesome. I would say I didn't know you sang but that would be a lie. Because you sing at church and at work and at home and in the car, at the supermarket, at Wal-Mart...

I do those things too. Also drives my kids nuts. We were in target the other day and I was singing while I shopped and my daughter said, "You're the only person I know who just sings everywhere." To be fair, she hasn't met you. Ha.

So I asked my coworker this question. He said he would tell jokes and be funny if he only had 60 seconds. No questions. He said what someone laughs at is very informative. He said it also tells you how they interact with people. I think he might be on to something...

Indian marriages work like speed dating. The only difference is that you are pronounced husband and wife by the time the relationship hits the 2nd month! :D

Wow. That wouldn't be much time. Most women I know can keep up the act of being "normal" for longer than that. The gal would have to make an absolutely fantastic biryani and have a deep knowledge of sci-fi for me to overlook the 2-month-rush thing.

I joked once many years ago that I could sort out a good partner if she could pick up on movie quotes and such. If I was cooking something in the kitchen and was grinding up a spice rub for the meat and she'd say "the spice must flow", that would probably do a little something for me.
