Yes. Alternate heat and cold. Heat increases blood flow to the area which helps with healing, cold helps to keep inflammation in check.
And do some stretches if you can too!

You can actually avoid having the muscles cramp up further with proper stretching. Just don't overdo it until you heal.

Take this as a wake up call though, do some lower back exercises, work stretching into your daily routine (or an excercise routine), and use proper technique when lifting objects - take care of your lower back and it will take care of you. Back injuries are no joke, and too few people do anything to prevent them.

Perhaps you will find it easier to read the Bible through by picking a topic or two and marking it from cover to cover. For example, you might mark the love of God in pink & the glory of God in yellow.

Hey everyone,

I have always wanted to read the Bible cover to cover, even making resolutions to follow “Bible in a year plans” that are available in plenty.

However I always fail at this because after a certain point of time, it becomes more of a chore rather than understanding and paying attention to what God could be showing me that day.

The blog started as an idea to motivate myself to read the Bible, and not just in a mechanical fashion but in a personal, deep way so I could apply it to my daily life to feel the joy and fulfillment that comes from knowing God’s word.

I hope you read on more and join me on this incredible journey!
God bless

The Bible From The Heart

PS - The intro is copied from the blog.

It is quite personal, but while discussing this with a few other people, they were also open to adding their perspectives on the Bible at the site.

For now I am starting out with Jonah, which I am really excited about. I have actually finished reading it, but just putting down my thoughts and researching other facets of this was a lot of fun...

Also, I have plans in the future to start series on things that affect us in deep ways but hopefully through the light of God's word - anger, pain, suffering, loss etc.

Kind of why I called it "The Bible from the heart"

:)

I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading the Bible cover-to-cover, but I also wouldn't be the first too cheer-lead such a decision. Yes, I believe everyone should do it once in their life, but if you're a new Christian or an older Christian, you should probably choose a more manageable approach. Sure, the order the books are laid out give a great understanding of the framework of human history and God at work in and amongst His people, but some of the books are really hard slogs.

For example, the Pentateuch (first five books of the OT) are very important, but vary greatly in both interest and readability. Genesis is an easy read, as is most of Exodus. The last third of Exodus to Deuteronomy will test most people's patience and may prevent/slow down people from reading any further. I know it did for me, when I was a child and even now as an adult (where I've been reading several OT books, then a NT book and so on). It's true though, that I understand more of the books now and why they were included. As for things like the lengthy genealogies that include lots of strange names and nations, they become really interesting if you do a little research (especially Genesis 5 and 11).

This is kinda random but I talked to my grandma yesterday and we came upon the topic of Valentine's Day. She said that back in her day only the men would give the women something. I asked her what would they give them? She said "a bottle of perfume or a box of handkerchiefs." I thought that was pretty cool! It wasn't about gaudy stuff like colorful bears, chocolates or flowers. It was about something a lady would use and she would be able to keep it...at least for a while (to remember her beau).

Anyways, I really like to hear stories from my grandma. I like to know what it was like back then.

This is what a box of handkerchiefs looked like in the 50s! Isn't that cute?

That's funny.......not haha..........the other funny.........When my Mother passed away last February, as I was going through her things I came across a old shoe box full of handkerchiefs with various floral designs on them. Some of them are very old. Gave them to my Sister, she loves them. Kinda wish I had kept a couple......but then........Sister really loved them.

Oops, this should read:
'Yes, I believe everyone should do it at least once in their life, but if you're a new Christian or an older Christian who hasn't read much of the Bible before' (yes, they exist), then you should probably choose a more manageable approach.'

They need to invent a Christian dance club, for people who like to wholesomely dance and worship God through dance. that would be COOL. but alas, we must redirect this idea to our dead forefathers because Christians cant dance because dance was invented by satan. hahhaha. jk.

Or because I can't dance. Too self-conscious.

*Takes a deep breath, exhales slowly*

I finally have some time to myself tonight. Time to meditate/pray, time to read, and time to simply enjoy a couple of uninterrupted (hopefully), simple pleasures.

Thank you, God, for the little things.

i would appreciate prayer too. i've been really struggling with energy, and being rested. normally i have almost an unlimited supply of energy, and lately, i just find myself needing a lot more sleep, and wanting to reach for those things that are designed to perk us up, i.e. caffeine.

i have a mild disorder than leaves me (often) in various stages of anemia, and that might very well be part of it. i had a pretty hard week a couple weeks ago, and i feel like i've never recovered from it.

thanks in advance for prayer.

as to my sparseness here on the forum, it's largely due to that. and that i don't feel like i have a lot to say. but you all remain in my thoughts and prayers. : )
i have an urgent prayer request for a friend going through a very difficult time.

while he is a christian, he is struggling mightily with suicidal feelings, and overall despair. i'm VERY concerned for him at this time.

thanks in advance, monica
thanks so very much to those who reached out to me in support and prayer, both for myself and the friend mentioned earlier. it's greatly appreciated.

a different friend and i were able to talk to this friend earlier today and get a better handle on the emotional condition of this friend, and while he is definitely struggling and having a very difficult time, he sounded much better in conversation than his initial messages led me to conclude. also, the friend is also seeking the support of a therapist, and am currently encouraging him to seek additional support through a group resource, like celebrate recovery.

anyway...

i was thinking today, so often our focus (as both christians and the church) is on evangelism, and often forget that growth as a christian sometimes comes at a price. further, many churches have little in the way of discipleship.

unfortunately, so many seem to adopt the mindset that being a "christian" means all our difficulties will become minor bumps in the road as we go riding off into the sunset of "effortless growth in Christ". it just doesn't work like that, does it?

anyway, thanks again for those who have prayed for me (and my friend) in the last day. it means so much. : )

p.s. i have a doctor's appt on the 16th, and hopefully will find out the extent of my anemia stuff. : )

I didn't see your message about your friend until just now as you quoted it... sorry about that! But I am so thankful that he seems to be doing better. Praying for you as well, sweets.

She's quit repeatedly. I think this is one of her 'off' times. Has been for a while.

How are you?
Hope you are ok
I have been fine.
Barquisimeto, the city where I live, is ok.

Been reading a lot. Since Internet here is so scarce, I opted mainly to read books.

Keep expanding your superb collection of music.

molly, i love that you shared this!

i actually collect old girly handkerchiefs, many of which have been passed down from my grandma. i love them--they're so delicate and frilly. also, my grandmother saved the last pair of silk stockings she purchased with rationing stamps--and she gave them to me too.

anyway, i usually have a pretty handkerchief in my handbag.

"Have a nice day!"
"Sorry, I have other plans."

A customer actually said that once.

Also, "Thank you for choosing (company.)"
"Well, you're welcome!"

That one made the cashier giggle.
