Well, media tends to villainize them. Due to their tendency to eat livestock, they were not well liked by ranchers. This lead to their villianization, and wolves in many places (especially US America) we're hunted nearly to extinction (helped by fear).
That said, unless sick, injured, or defending pups, wolves are not particularly dangerous or aggressive toward people. In fact, some got along quite well with humans, and such are the ancestors of the domestic dogs of today. The same traits we admire in 'man's best friend' are inherent in their wolf counterparts.
To those who love them, they are mysterious, beautiful, and admirable creatures. For some examples, they are one of the few creatures in the wild with things such as social hierarchy, monogamous mating relationships, continuous family groups, ideas of 'home' and 'home turf' (via den and marked territory), play, a type of 'singing', and many other fascinating things.
They are strong, swift, intelligent, loyal, and work together. A wolf is a pretty amazing creature, and just one of God's many ways to to be Glorified. Look at all He has made, and how awesome it is! So much more must He be, as its creator. ^^
