Let's talk about this! Some seem to think it means being in a monogamous relationship. Others operate under it meaning not that, but just like, a casual thing; like window shopping (that sounds bad, but bear with me).

What are your thoughts on it? What everyone's thoughts this, even?
i always thought dating meant a relationship. as people say "facebook official" -_- lol

right? idk.

agreed minus the lame facebook comment lol ...I've heard things like "well it's not marriage, its not like you're married to them so what's the big deal" The big deal? Uhh Everything...if you cheat during a "non-committed window shopping " relationship you're more than likely going to cheat when you're "stuck" in that store that you window shopped and you want to "visit" other stores gosh so many metaphors and euphemisms

If a man asked me out for dinner, I wouldn't assume we're boyfriend and girlfriend. And I would absolutely expect to pay for my own meal. If he offered to pay for it at that time, I might or might not accept. It would depend on if I felt comfortable enough with him to accept.

I think what throws people into a whirlwind is when they don't take enough time to find out if they'd make good friends first. If we're looking for romance before friendship, if we're looking for love right off the bat, we're getting ahead of the game.

Seriously, if you can't take the time to get to know one another for real, if you can't relax and just have fun together, if you can't be your real imperfect self and accept the other person's imperfections, how in the world do you expect a romance to endure?

Plus, who knows? Maybe they're crazier than YOU? heehee

That is certainly one caveat. People that don't take dating to mean anything serious/committed/monogamous won't see anything wrong with dating more than one person; i.e. it's not "cheating." If you try on a few different sets of attire, after all, is that considered attultery (I'll see myself out, now)?

Is this song about Jesus?

If it is , I'm struggling even worse than I thought with the assurance of salvation, I just don't seem to get it. But thanks, Mia, for getting me to think about it. :) (my brain hurts)

Now how in the hee haw would I know anything about pierogies?

Do I LOOK Polish to you, hmm???!!!

I'm still stressed enough over the "Women Must Learn How To Bake Cookies To Catch a Man" thread to even think about potato-filled pockets of dough.

However, several years ago I tried to make Butternut Squash Ravioli from scratch that might very well have counted as a half-hearted attempt. The "pasta" turned out so thick and dough-y... that I just wound up breaking open every single "ravioli" and just eating the filling. Sigh.

Alas. If cooking is the way to a man's heart, I am really out of luck. (Yes. I just said "luck" on a Christian forum. I get off work at 10, please don't light your torches and put down those friggin' pitchforks until 9:45.)

[snippity snip]

Kim!!! :O You can't say the L word! You're a CHRISTIAN! Christians aren't supposed to use that word! We don't believe in saying the L word in these here parts. Gather up the troops, everyone! We're running Kim outta town! :p

4 months later at the performance review...

" I'm sorry, I don't have money in the budget to give you a raise at this time. I asked somebody to remind me to set aside money for it, but they didn't... "

I've always wanted to ask this... is there a word in English that means "to be in a relationship with someone"? I thought it was "dating", but I've been told that "dating" doesn't necessarily means commitment...
My views are usually different from people I talk with. For me personally, I am not about "casual dating." Meaning, I am not about going on all these random dates with so many men in order to "find the one." If I am interested in someone and they are interested in me, I would go on dates with them....in groups and in one-on-ones in order to get to know them and to find out more about them with the intention of courtship. I'm not an extremist of being old-fashioned, though. But I don't like the thought of "casual dating." Hopefully this makes some sense.

I guess it's where one defines "dating" and "relationship"...Dating could be a more casual thing going out and whatnots with different people...but once you're in a relationship I think that its different...IDK Sibe...Apparently Relationship now-a-days does not mean exclusive...you have to specify exclusive relationship vs relationship...not that I agree in fact it makes no sense to me...I'm not one to go on dates with a handful of ladies to "find someone"...I generally know whether I like them, and or want to pursue something further before hand (of course the feeling would have to be mutual with the gal)...you can find someone likable but know that a relationship just wouldn't work out...while some may want to "tread the waters to see if it'll work out" I spot red flags a mile away and save myself the frustration pain and or hurts and just not even start it...just due to my overly analytical thought process...

I swear I should have been born 100 years ago...wrong Generation Mo wrong Generation

My biggest question on this was merely for grammatical purposes... the thing is that in Portuguese we have a word that conveys the precise idea of being in a monogamous relationship with someone... and dictionaries always translate this word as "to date"... and whenever I used the expression, I would get all these different meanings and I would get confused like "If I say I'm dating someone, why would you ask me if we're serious, or if I'm dating other people at the same time?"... it just didn't make any sense to me...

Now it's all clear... the term is pretty "open" to various interpretations as many of you have explained so fully!!! :)

There are definitely a variety of definitions because everyone's opinions are different :) Hopefully your question was answered. If not, I can shoot a PM your way to explain more!

Gotcha, and that seems (more or less) to be the prevailing wisdom. I agree: we need to draw lines and define a relationship when we're in or pursuing one; none of this cop-out window shopping business.
