And You? In trouble? :eek::p
It's kind of funny because I have this way of getting in trouble for the most miniscule reasons.

I work 6 days a week so I only make it to the gym 2-3 days, so I try to make the most of each session. My "normal" routine has become an hour on a the treadmill, 20-30 minutes on the weight machines, and another 30-45 minutes on a stationary bike.

The last time I went, the lady at the desk hollered at me for wearing jean shorts to the gym. She even made it a point to follow me to the treadmill (after I'd already been on it for about 10 minutes) with a rule book and read me the 2-page dress code out loud. I know this is rude, but I pretty much ignored her.

First of all, I've been going there almost 6 weeks and no one has said anything. Second, the shorts I was wearing are ancient and have no rivets so there is nothing about them that will damage or tear anything on the machines. Third, it's impossible for me to find workout gear I like, so I stick with loose t-shirts and have been to literally ever store in town trying to find a suitable pair of shorts. All I want is something loose and comfy that covers everything, especially when engaged in all those awkward positions on the machines, and this one pair not only fit the bill, but was all I had.

Have you ladies found that it is impossible to find workout gear that isn't a combination of Spanx and hot pants all at once??!!! (NOT a very flattering combination--all I can think of when I see it is Wedgie City.) And unfortunately, my sewing machine is in storage so I can't make/alter myself a new pair for another 3 months. I don't want super short. I don't want skin tight. And I don't want capris or ankle length stretch pants. And that's ALL the stores here offer. ARGH!!! Do guys find it this hard to find workout attire? I'm guessing no.

Le sigh.

So today I wore my regular "around the house" "gym" shorts but was totally uncomfortable the whole time because in my opinion, they're a tad bit too short. After all, I'm going to be 42, not 16, and I didn't even wear short shorts when I WAS a teenager.

I go to a gym that's mostly senior citizens and so I tend to stick out like a sore thumb, which may be why I seem to keep getting a bit of unwanted "supervision." If someone is waiting for a machine, you're supposed to limit your time to 30 minutes. Well, I'd done my whole routine and was now happily reading on the stationery bike when the guy at the desk came over and put a tag on my bike (kind of like when they chalk your tires at a parking spot), and told me to wrap it up.

BUT THERE WAS NO ONE WAITING, and 3 other people were on bikes, with one of them being there longer than me. And I was the only one who got "tagged"!! SIGH.

The funny thing is, at heart, I'm a couch potato just trying to get a little exercise... HOW MUCH OF A FIGHT IS THIS GOING TO BE???!!! Stay tuned!!

You've also heard of a gym rat... Well, I am a gym nerd. I was telling Melita I've finally taught myself to read while exercising--as long as I can keep what I'm reading on a stand so it doesn't move, I don't get dizzy like I usually do if I try to read while moving. So, I literally bring an entire bag of books and keep reading until I'm utterly exhausted, and that's the only thing that keeps me on those machines so long.

Plus, I'm thinking of crashing a party... As in, The Lego Club Party at the library.

I don't even collect or play with Legos, but I love looking at what other people make out of them!! If I show up at the party, will they throw me out for not being a "true" Lego enthusiast??!!

After all, I figure if I'm going to be seen as this rebellious young whipper snapper who keeps breaking all the rules... I might as well go all the way.

That would be annoying. I've seen people wear stuff like that; I would think that if they didn't have anything on them that would ruin any equipment, they'd be fine. Luckily at my gym there really isn't a dress code or time limit on anything. I've never found myself waiting to use something. It's open 24 hours and we only have staff there like half of the time, but even when they're not, everything seems to run smoothly.

As far as workout clothes, I just wear stuff like sweat pants, sweatshirts, basketball shorts, tank tops, etc. I don't think guys really have a problem finding anything lol.

A 24-hour gym would be great, especially since I usually go at about 5:30 in the morning and there's already a decent amount of people there. However, due to family connections :D, the place where I go doesn't cost me anything, so I intend to make good use of it.

On the plus side... I've always hated ab work but they have (what seems to me at least, though I'm certainly no expert) a really good machine for the obliques and lower abs. I can really feel the difference. My upper abs have always been somewhat ok and I do feel stronger... But let's not talk about the lower abs... ARGH!! Heh heh heh... But, I'm working on it!! :D

Obviously, I am NOT going to be posting any pics of my abs!!! LOL!! But I CAN say I actually LIKE working on this machine (and when I have to arm-wrestle some senior just to use it, it's an added bonus--arm workout!!)

However, the worst thing is that this gym is right next to a really nice restaurant, so after I've had my big workout, I walk out the front door... To the overwhelming scent of freshly grilled burgers.

Sigh. The fight is on!!!

I'll tell you something though, it's really inspiring to see people in their 60's and 70's who are ten times more fit than I am.

As I said, almost all of the patrons there are seniors, and some of these people come in and are running on treadmills or burning it out on the ellipticals... for an hour or more! I watch them and think to myself, "That's how I want to be when I get older!!"

But I certainly understand why it's intimidating for people to get started. Almost all the people who come to this rec center, even though they're older, are very fit and trim. I saw a guy the other day on a stationary bike and he was... quite a bit heavier than anyone else there, and you could see it on his face--I'm sure it was difficult for him.

I wanted to tell him, "Great job! Keep going! You can do it!" but... I didn't want to overstep my boundaries or risk offending anyone so I just prayed for him instead.

Just for that I'm going to pop a stick of gum in my mouth and call you up to chew in your ear. No wait... half a pack, so what I say will be hard to understand.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it still make a sound? I don't see why not.
Cold hard science has answered that one. The impact makes sound waves whether there are ears to perceive them or not.

Actually most of the old existential questions have been answered. "Is there life before death?" The answer is obvious, at least to a Christian. "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" is just an illustration of the fact everybody needs other people. "How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?" Depends what size they want to be.

But there is one question that has never been and probably never will be answered.

...

......

.........

Is there life before coffee?
Nobody knows because nobody is awake enough to observe. Scientists claim there is, at a very low level, but they never have proven it. They can't summon the energy to read their instruments before the first cup of the day.

I would write a letter to the owner explaining what happened, how it was rude and why it's the reason you're cancelling your membership. I have two gym memberships at the most popular chains here and I've been going to them for about 20 years and I have never even seen someone do that to a member in a gym. There are plenty of other gyms that would treat you better.

I'm NOT just saying I'm not working out. It takes a lot of discipline to consistently say no to the gym! :p
