toinena: This electric collar has level settings. Start at a low one and go up until the dog stops going out of his yard. It's not anything like an electric taser. It's uncomfortable, not devastating.

So I just got my new phone. It's the Unihertz Jelly (tm) phone. This replaces my old phone, the Posh Mobile Micro X.

Here's a picture of the old one:

Aaaaaand... a picture of the new one:

Notice anything odd?

But when I got this phone out of the box, I could tell a difference before I turned it on. It just FEELS more solid. Not heavier, more solid, like it was better made or something. I don't know, it's hard to explain.

All the hardware inside the phone case is very different too. I think Unihertz looked around for a small case to put the phone's guts in and said, "Hey, that company that made the Posh Mobile Micro X shell might still have the tooling for that case." This new phone has Android 7.0, which my old phone never could dream of having the power to run. The new phone has two sim card slots too, and they are behind the battery instead of slots in the outer edges of the phone.

I'm not mentioning this because I think you should get one of these phones. This phone is NOT for normal people. I got it because it suits my particular use-case very well, but I think it would be very frustrating for a normal person to try to use this phone.

So why do I mention it? I dunno, this is the sharing thread and I'm happy about this phone.

Just as a fair warning so that he doesn't claim another victim...

Lynx is a pusher and his drug of choice would be Android. Unfortunately, I must reluctantly admit that have fallen prey to his coaxing.

I suppose it's time that I introduce everyone to my new boyfriend (and no, it's not Lynx, which I'm sure he is relieved to hear.)

Though I finally caved in to getting a smart phone, I insisted that I must also have a real keyboard to go with it. Henceforth, I'd like you all to meet my new baby. <3

Here he is in covert, secret ninja mode:

And here he in fully functional, "Transform and Roll Out!" mode (Optimus Prime would be proud):

Lynx has also gotten me hooked on voice texting, which has completely revolutionized most of my communications. I am trying to get all my friends to convert to this method as well, so I can feel as if I'm talking to them all day without having to be continuously glued to the phone.

However, my zeal (and slight obsession with people's voices) has led me to:

* Wake one friend up at such an unholy hour, it's a wonder he didn't slap me over the phone.
* Send so many messages at once (in a combination of both voice and text) that one person told me it would be easier to record an audio book for them to download :D, and another to tell me "Time out," when I've sent so many messages at once that he can't keep up, and "Time in," once he's able to catch up.
* Endanger communications on several airline flights because of the temptation to use my keyboard (though I've now read that the use of such short-range devices is allowed--I'll have to ask an attendant next time.) You should have seen the way people were looking at me sideways when I pulled out that keyboard on the plane and set up my phone as a monitor. :D And alas, once I got off the plane, I had about 50 messages in draft form but ready to send as soon as the plane landed.
* Inspired my siblings to constantly goad me with comments such as, "How's it going with your 'mini-computer'"?

Ah, yes. People can stare and laugh all they want.

But I think this is the beginning of a very long-term, fully committed relationship.

Now if only I could figure out even out half of what he's really able to do. <3

Over the years, I've had a lot of people make fun of me for "hanging out with nerds".

One of the popular girls in high school used to call me "The Nerd Magnet", and she didn't mean it in a nice way.

It's always funny to me because I think the answer is pretty obvious: I AM A NERD (though unfortunately, not one of the smart nerds.)

I talk to nerds, I hang out with nerds, I feel at home with nerds. I'll always be in the back of the room, hanging with the nerds and misfits.

And, I will always BE a nerd, at least in my own eyes.

People say it like it's a bad thing... But to be honest, I would never feel comfortable as part of the "cool" crowd, even if they were to ever extend me an invitation.

No offense to any of the "cool kids"--I'm sure we could be friends just fine if we can meet on a common ground.

It's just that at heart, I know who I am--one of the people that the "in" people dismiss--and I've grown to be perfectly fine with that.

Would you all say that the cliques from high school continue on for the rest of life? Like Kim is talking about nerds...are the cliques still in existence...just not as visible?

I wouldn't say cliques because our nerd groups aren't exclusive...anyone who wants can pretty much join (or at least that's how my nerd groups work)....cliques have that "elite" feeling of "you're not on our level" type attitude...most nerds that I have met aren't like that....they are inclusive....
