I wouldn't say cliques because our nerd groups aren't exclusive...anyone who wants can pretty much join (or at least that's how my nerd groups work)....cliques have that "elite" feeling of "you're not on our level" type attitude...most nerds that I have met aren't like that....they are inclusive....
Hmm...that's kinda funny. The nerds at my high school were all very cliquy (yes, that's a word!) I remember all the gifted and talented kids would sit together and the AP kids together. The regular kids didn't even know us. I was an AP kid. Not GT, but not regular.

The GT kids were so competitive with each other that I remember the salutatorian dated the valedictorian just to get his spot. She really distracted him. This was junior year and she was first for that year. By the end of senior year though, he had earned his spot back by like .00001 points. I remember thinking "how can you earn higher than a 4.0 GPA?" There were about 35 kids with Summa honors...it was crazy! I knew all this because not all classes were available in GT...so for example history, the GT kids would take it as an AP course. I knew a lot of them...but they mostly hung out with each other. They would keep quiet unless they were with their own.

Then the regular kids just didn't care. Ironically I hated math back then so I always took regular math. Everything else was AP. Anyways, I remember the kids at the back of the room in Algebra II were always asleep. In geometry they would pass messages on the TI-83 calculator and they thought they were really cool by doing that.

Anyways, what I'm saying is that the GT kids (extreme nerds) were really stuck up and thought they were better than the rest...I guess maybe they were. :p

btw seoul, if you want some cool apps for your phone I can send you some links .....some good ones are pacman by namco,
rocket player by jrt studio, vlc player, BLB bible app, and UB reader (for pdf/ebooks)....
VLC rocks, even VLC for mobile. MySword is a good simple bible program, but I've never tried BLB so for all I know it could be good too. Once seoulsearch recovers from her tech overdose and is once again able to configure stuff we will try to get her to install VLC.

Would you all say that the cliques from high school continue on for the rest of life? Like Kim is talking about nerds...are the cliques still in existence...just not as visible?
Beats me. I was never even aware of what cliques existed in my school, and I'm still not really aware of the cliques around me.

He also pushes linux...
Yeah that was on a flash drive. I sent her it as an emergency backup if her Windows ever goes south.

But now SHE is pushing audio clips in text messages, and she's getting more people hooked on it than I ever got hooked on Linux.

This is a really, really good question, Molly.

The reason I say I'm a lifelong nerd is because as an adult, I've moved to some completely different areas and had to start over from scratch. I always wondered if I'd be labeled differently or seen as part of a different group than what I was seen as in school... And the answer would be... NOPE!! Wherever I go, whatever I do, I always wind up in the same (misfit) category, and I'm ok with that. :)

It's actually saved me a lot of heartache when I was on the online dating sites, because I knew that in real life, CEO's, lawyers, doctors, jocks, and guys who look like male models are never what I attract, so I was very, very cautious if someone claiming to be any of these things ever tried to talk to me. (In all but one case, they eventually admitted to being very different from--and not--the actual person they first presented themselves to be.)

I know a lot of people hold out the hope that they can attract a 20 on a scale of 1-10 if they just hop onto the internet, but personally, I think it's important to be realistic. I actually wrote a thread about this a long time ago (who do you attract in real life vs. who do you attract online) and maybe it's something that would be interesting to revisit.

As for my fold-out keyboard, I appreciate the suggestions for touchscreen keyboard apps, but to me, touchscreens are of the devil. I'm a very tactile person and so I've always loved having contact with real buttons, as well as hearing the rhythm of the clicks they make as I'm happily plunking away. To me, this is a big part of the therapeutic part of writing. I'm tempted to buy a few more of these keyboards just in case they stop making them!!!

Lynx just asked me if I say to myself, "(Autobots... Transform and) Roll Out!" every time I unfold it...

Alas. While I might not be thinking, "Roll Out!", I confess that I may or may not be making those "CH CH CH CH CH" noises that you heard every time the Autobots and Decepticons transformed.

Have I ever mentioned that I can be very persuasive (or was that, threatening?)... not to mention dangerous, when I am laser-focused and on a mission?:cool::p

(Voices, people. I need. to. hear. voices.)

You know... BESIDES the ones already in my head. :D

I agree VLC is like the universal decoder for any format...I love it so much I even have it on windows desktop, ios, and android....it plays literally anything and has so many options like equalizer, play speed, toggle forward/backwards....for FREE!!!! just an amazing tool.....

yea we got to get seoul versed in the art of rooting, installing apps via APK sideloading, using battery apps to kill google play's constant battery drain in the background, and even using a file manager like ES file explorer or even Asus file transfer is free and works on all android devices (not just asus only).....you can do wifi file transfer to your android without a cable as long as you have it on the same wifi network....i think its the coolest feature in modern android file explorer apps.....
the other cool feature is the new PIP (picture in picture ) on android oreo....i think it should have been implemented 4 os versions ago but then again that's just me.....some of these features like with apple feel gimicky (like it should have already been on the stupid device beforehand not as a "new feature" when other phones have it as standard lol....like huawei phones for example....

About VLC. I join the choir. Every format I can dream of and it plays it.

One thing I have tried but haven't managed. It should be possible to stream content, even videos and films from my machine to a friend, even across the world with VLC. But I didn't succeed. Anyone tried and succeeded?

I've used this website HTG (how to geek) to setup the vlc record my desktop setting...and when making a tutorial for how to setup wifi.....
if you follow the steps it should work...also make sure you don't have windows firewall or your router's firewall blocking settings like streaming or other security features that may inhibit vlc streaming...

Why not make a light-weight stapler-pencil?
If so, call it a stencil.

....oh, wait.

While at it, add a flashlight so you can see what you write and where you staple.

Staplelite. "Before you're in a pinch"

IDEAtor your brain sounds almost as scary as mine.

A friend of mine mentioned this "Beer and Bibles" outreach some churches are conducting in local bars. I mentioned I never could see why people drank that stuff in the first place, as it always smelled bad to me. Another friend mentioned she knew somebody who kept horses, and the horse trainer said beer smelled like horse pee.

I said, "This starts an odd chain of thought... what would you feed a horse in order to get a lager? What would you feed a horse to get a lite beer?"

**wonders what the difference in sound is between opening a beer and a soda**

Been undergoing a small renovation in home since July..yup July. I think I'm going to lose my mind..my contractor is such a nice guy but such a challenge.

If I knew then what I know now my contract would have looked much different.

Well I know the effects are different... One rots out your insides from your teeth to your intestines, while the other one just mildly intoxicates you.

I think they both sound the same though, and they ALL smell bad. They smell bad in different ways, but all sodas and beers smell bad in some way.
