Today was the 25th anniversary of the tragic death of someone whom I loved very much. God moves in mysterious ways. Even though I grieved the loss quite deeply, what has stayed with me and been most meaningful has been gratitude, for knowing that love really is a gift from God. Well, yesterday now (it is after midnight :))

Sami paper done. Estimated grade C
Bilingualism paper done. Estimated grade F.

I am too old and too stupid to try to do this. Going to bed. Thinking of suing the ginseng factory. Didn't compensate for my stupidity

My computer decided to auto update just before I was supposed to leave work for the day (it would not allow me to select a different time from the options), so I had to wait an extra half hour in order to allow it to finish, before I went home, which, actually I did not have time to go home, so I treated myself to a lovely pre-cooked meal from the Whole Foods hot bar, and then went straight to my seven thirty meeting, and did not get home until after nine thirty, more than twelve hours after leaving for work this morning :p
There is a simple way to stop windows updates, even in Windows 10. I have to find it again... I'll PM it to you when I find it. You turn it off through services.

Busy is always good. We are still doing grads! My boss has been sending me about a thousand or so orders a week to do, maybe as many 15-1800 depending on how many are sitting on the server waiting to be processed. Aside from that, the Christmas rush consists of lots of family portraiture proofs, which the best then come back as enlargement and package (multiple sizes) orders, plus Christmas card quantities. I might usually get around a hundred orders a week when it is slow; Monday there were over two hundred orders on top of all the grad stuff. I like my job! That helps :D And my boss is a nice guy. I am allowed to go online while I am at work, but when it gets super busy, I leave my laptop at home. During actual grad season, I color correct about seven hundred grad orders a day on top of whatever else I might have to do on another printing machine.
Assuming an 8 hour day, you photoshop something like one and a half pictures per minute?

Wow, I'm doing good if I can get a photo editor to do what I want on one picture, period.

My plan for the weekend is to work my spotted tail off. Today is the first of the month AND it's a Friday. We're going to get the TGIF crowd AND the government check crowd.

I turn down lingerie models all the time...... unless they model for Soma.
Lol, somehow, I think you would not turn down a model who came knocking on your door. One thing that is refreshing about you is your honesty. I don’t know how many times I’ve read men saying they want to go to bed with this woman or that woman- and it was not because the woman was sweet and smart. It was only because they were hot. They don’t even know these women in real life, they might be dumber than dirt and meaner than snakes. Hottness covers a multitude of sins.

it works if you set it as a metered connection.

settings> network and internet> wifi> advanced options> metered connection on.

voilà!

this is probably none of my business (but it never stopped me before)...

i'm what my friend Mandy calls a 'future tripper'. always borrowing trouble that may never come.
it's been a difficult thing to overcome, and i'm really a 'recovering' future tripper, and 'recovering' pessimist.

if you can, don't panic before you get the grades? i so admire you, doing all this now.
God is with you; He is for you. resting is hard work at times, isn't it?
i am praying He enables you to rest in Him.

Good morning Lynx. I do occasionally use photoshop at work, but my job is mostly color correcting all the image files before printing. The majority of my work comes in through the internet, where the photographer has used a Kodak program to create their order, and when it is received by the lab, an itemized order sheet prints out, and the order number shows up in a queue on an app of my work monitor, where I open the images to apply density, color, and contrast corrections before I send it to the printing machine with the order sheet, to be matched up to the prints when they come out.

A lot of grad work from various photographers is done this way, too, but one of our clients created their own ordering program so they could avoid paying Kodak a small fee for every image put in the system. (They are the one that I get hundreds of orders from a day.) Once I send an order to the printing machine, it renders each image file and applies my corrections, as well as going through a number of other adjustments (called nodes) such as any crop the photographer applied to their file, automatic sharpening, number and sizes of prints from each file, etc. Anything larger than 12 x 18 goes to a different department for printing.

We get work coming into the lab from walk-ins as well. We still develop and print film, and scan it to disc if they want, or send the scanned images back to the customer through the internet. I have a second machine I operate that handles most of the "hard copy" work for scanning film and printing from files brought into the lab in person.

That second printing machine has Photoshop on it :) Sometimes I use it to fix a scanning blooper, and I check image files that have come from scanned photos to edit the image if needed :)

Ok, here's how to turn off windows updates in Windows 10:

1. Search for "services.msc" in Cortana/Search box, then open "Services" when it pops up

2. Find "Windows Update" in the services list and double-click on it.

3. In the pop-up window, next to "Startup Type" select "Disabled" from the drop-down menu.

4. Click "apply" and "ok"..... thats it! :)

But its to prevent windows from updating itself when you don't want it to, like when you need to get something done. That way is won't lock you out of your computer. Do you mean you have an earlier version of windows? If so, you can simply turn off windows updates in the windows update options.

I have windows 10. Normally it allows me to set a different time, but yesterday it would not apply the time reset I chose from the options, and went ahead and started updating just before it was time to go home :p:D
