I think there's scripture that backs it up on the possibility. Not everyone's going to agree but that's their call...
I had a dog that lived for well over fifteen years and had to be put down due to cancer that was pretty much eating away at her. I loved that dog and it was hard to make that decision let alone see her in that type of pain, which was probably the longest of a few months in my life. I pretty much grew up with her and she was the sweetest and LOVED to be in the company of others. She had such good qualities for a dog. It was hard to see her go and let me tell you the grief can be pretty deep and you'll never be truly ready for when that time comes. It didn't take til a few years later that I found peace on the matter and I personally think that she's okay within the experience of all of what happened. There's a peace that was never imagined or was ever there before it by the time I had that type of closure. Now I feel okay talking about it compared to just a year or two back when I would get teary to even mention of her. I hope it can be the same for my cats since my eldest one is thirteen years of age - even if there's still a few good years ahead. In the end it'll be okay. Just enjoy your pets while you can.

1 Corinthians 15:39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
