Alright, I hope this works... I just read how to embed a youtube video. Anyway, this has nothing to do with being single, but since we're talking about how hard it can be to feel welcomed at church, I thought it was appropriate.

What if Starbucks marketed like the church?

I am a single guy and I go to a small church. I think the hardest thing is I want to be a hospitable person invite people over and so on. Its hard to approach the others my age cause they are all couples and why in the world would you come to my place? Its awkward IDK if anyone feel like that. Mind you I am only 20 but it seems the majority are couples that are my age and I am the misfit. I mean couples that are between 18 and 25.

Oh my gosh, that video just makes me want to rush out and buy someone a scone...

I've had my share of feeling that way at churches too--I wish all of us singles could ban together and choose random churches to crash in groups... then WE could be the ones to stare THEM down... :)

*scone, anyone?*

Actually, and I hope this isn't too evil, but I once tried to talk my friend Mariea into going to a town about an hour away from us on Sundays and "crashing" churches--showing up in miniskirts, tank tops, wild hair, too much makeup, and fake (but real-looking) tattoos in order to see what kind of response we would get.

And, keeping it real... I told her I wondered how many guys would try to slip us their numbers.

And how many of those guys would be married/deacons/elders/men of authority in the church.

I'm NOT trying to sound negative, but real. (My own social psychology experiment.) We never went... but I'd do it and publish the results as a dissertation in a heartbeat if I were still in school. Again, not in condemnation, but to say hey, we actually have to SHOW people the love of God, not just talk about it... myself included!

ohhhhh something similar happened in a church once Seoul.......the visiting speaker disguised himself as a hobo like character......and quietly sat at the back of the church......everyone was worried at how the guest speaker hadn't arrived yet and what were they gonna do.....NO ONE spoke to the 'bum' in the back corner of the building...people stared but didn't make him feel welcomed.....when finally the pastor stood up to say that the speaker was obviously delayed, the hobo got up and headed for the pulpit......made for an unforgettable lesson ;)

My step dad is a pastor and he told a story one sunday of how... a pastor down in georgia i believe had just started preaching his sermon and all of a sudden these men with masks on and ''guns'' ran in the church service and started yellin... whoever here is a christian get up now! well he said more than half the congragation got up and ran out of the church! and the others that were left stood up.... The guys took there masks off and they were the deacons...they took there seats and the pastor said NOW i can begin my sermon... and he went on.

i would hope that i would be one of the ones that stayed! but then when your put in the situation you never know! On t.v. i heard the story of a group of people who gathered together for bible studies in china. and since this wasnt allowed, they had to be really hush hush about it, Well some government officals got wind of it somehow and sent some of the police to the house they were holdin the bible study at, they came in the door and saw all of them praying and holding some bibles. They told everyone to put their bibles on the ground and spit on it, and they would live if they did this, all of them did it, except for this 11 year old girl, as she was walking by one of the bibles she stopped and picked it up, and wiped the spit off of it, one of the police men shot her in the head, but what a little girl!!! i would hope i would have half the courage of her!
