I also wanted to say that I am not just picking on people here--I have repeatedly made efforts to try to show kindness to others who seem more concerned about where in the forum a person is posting rather than actually responding to the concern the poster has written in the first place (especially new users.)
I read their criticisms and think, "Well, they've probably just had really hard lives... Maybe if we all try to encourage them, it will help..." and so, I've tried to give them positive feedback, likes, rep points with comments (I always sign my name when I give rep), but I get frustrated when all I see are cut-downs of everyone else around them. I've noticed, however, that when some of these very same people, who criticize everyone else about anything and everything, have a need in their life, they don't hesitate to ask for prayer for themselves, but yet rarely show even an ounce of compassion for anyone else. They will then say something that they are just being blunt and honest and "telling people like it is"--well today, I'm going to take advantage of my right to call things as I see them as well.
I have been wanting to say something for a very long time but just held it all in. Not that it will matter, as I'm pretty sure I've been on Ugly's ignore list for some time now (truthfully, it almost feels more like a badge of honor.) I remember once when he wrote a criticism in one of my threads (which is fine) but even said he hadn't bothered reading the original post (please read what I have to say before you cut me down, that's all I ask, thank you.)
Anyone who knows anything about Catherder or has read any of his posts knows that he's a stellar person, lots of fun, and very grounded in his faith. If you don't know that about him, you haven't been reading his posts, and I humbly suggest that you do before cutting him down.
I get really, really upset when I see good people who make earnest efforts to add positive things to the thread get ripped to shreds by people who contribute little else but bitterness, made-up rules, and put-downs of everyone else.
Normally, I just hold it in, hold it in... don't say anything, Kim, be polite, give the good Christian answer. But today I'm choosing to say something. And will probably do so even more in the future.
