I'm waiting for someone to come in here and admit they buy a bunch of junk food...like...

"Always in my cart:
DONUTS
ICE CREAM
RAMEN NOODLES
HOT DOGS
OREOS"

...I know there are people that shop like that...I see them at the store every time I go...

Not that I'm judging. I like donuts and Oreos too.

People ALWAYS make comments in the grocery store like, "Where's the rabbits?" when I show up at the checkout line with all of my produce. It's my last stop so they're all on top. :D

When I go shopping when I'm hungry, that's sometimes what my cart looks like (minus the hot dogs, gross). Never go grocery shopping when you're hungry!!

My last grocery shopping excursion looked kinda bad...chicken, hotdogs, boxed macaroni and cheese, French bread, sliced cheese, eggs, chocolate chips, salt, a garlic clove, peanut butter, and animal crackers. My system is all messed up while my mother-in-law is here, because she's doing half the shopping and cooking (which is nice, but it's totally messing me up), and so I ended up having to shop for only 3 days instead of 2 weeks. And the hotdogs and mac and cheese...well, sometimes, if you don't eat crappy processed food, you can't appreciate crappy homemade food...

:D

So anyway, today I'm making homemade chicken soup, with our garden veggies. Pray for it to turn out right...

* What are the top 5 things you ALWAYS throw into your grocery cart, and why?

* And, what are the top 5 things you would NEVER have in your grocery cart, and why?

Bananas
Apples
Tangerines/oranges
Mac N Cheese
Popcorn

Those are staples my kids love, so I make sure I have them. There are other things to like cheese and grapes.

Things I wouldn't have

Canned meat
canned ravioli or beefaroni. blah
Pork chops, yuck
Lard, yikes can't believe they still sell it.
Products with Aspartame, terrible for you, can't believe it's still on the shelves.

I don't think i can narrow it down to five..lol. sadly my grocery cart isnt as healthy as id like to to be but hey im on very very strict and tight budget, so... anyways we shop once a month only s we gotta get enough for a full month. I don't remember everything but here is a general idea.

- Ramen noodles (yes i know it's bad for you but hey it's poor peoples food, cant be helped but you can make it somewhat healthy by adding veggies and mybe chicken, kinda like stir-fry)

- Meats (chicken breast, ground beef, round steak, pork chops, etc)

- Milk (regular full fat and almond milk)

- bread

- eggs

-fruit (bananas mostly sometimes we get apples too)

- veggies (cabbage, onions, bell peppers, frozen brocclie, fresh carrots)

- pasta and pasta sauce

- canned raveolie and canned veggies

- suger, flour, baking cocoa, etc (I love to make alot..haha)

- canola oil

- instant noodle bowls

-frozen dinners

-oatmeal

_ dried fruit (for the oatmeal)

- soda

_ bottles of fruit juice

- slice cheese

- corn and flour tortilla's

- beans and brown rice

- frozen pizza

- lunch meat ad stuff for sandwhiches

ok that's about it..lol.

Always buy:
Milk - because protein supplements are terrible mixed with anything else, and chocolate syrup doesn't work with water.
Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Automobile- because Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and Automobile.
Meat - because carnivarian diet
Sriracha - goes with everything
Kipper snacks - the bacon of fish
Eggs - pre-bird, or chicken seeds, are yummy and versatile. Breakfast - it's what's for dinner!
Something high in fiber (varies from week to week) - because protein supplements, milk, eggs, and meat

Never buy:
Canned peas - WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU OH NEVERMIND
Brussel sprouts - just don't like 'em
Bologna - there are an infinite number of superior processed meat byproducts out there...why on earth would you choose bologna when you can choose chorizo or hard salami?
Tequila - people keep trying to convince me that there are tequilas that taste good, and they are always wrong
Plain milk chocolate - dark chocolate, VERY dark chocolate, is superior...but there are worse things in life than a plain Hershey bar I suppose. (Symphony with almonds and toffee chips FTW!)
Olives - ew ew ew (applies to all varieties - my hatred sees no racial boundaries)
White bread - I just like unwhite bread better, if I have a choice

Meh.
Am I the only person who pictures him walking around saying this stuff? Wouldn't you love to follow him around for a day to hear it? :D :)

Always in my trolley...er....cart:

romaine lettuce - good for salads or sandwiches
avocado - they are just yummy - good with breakfast, in aforementioned salad, smushed up as a sandwich spread (since I abhor mayonnaise).
red wine - usually a shiraz, cabernet, or a blend
cheese - swiss, a sharp cheddar, or pepper jack
veggies of some sort
frozen ravioli - so the kids can cook something if I can't make dinner for them that night
eggs
chicken

Things that are never in my cart:

eggplant
sugary cereals
black olives - I like the green ones, though
sodas, with one exception (see below) - I'm just not a cola person. I'll do the occasional root beer when out, but, meh...I figure if I want the carbonations, that's what beer is for.

When I want to treat myself:
lamb - if I am willing to spend more $$
plain Greek style yogurt - don't get the honey kind. Pour the honey on yourself. Best. Dessert. Evah!!!
ice cream

As for my shopping habits - they are kind of weird and go something like this:
Off to get salmon and a few other things. In the fish section, I see that sole is on sale, so I opt for that instead of the salmon. Stuffed sole sounds good. I think I can snag a loaf of sourdough at work, since we're a non-profit and end up with some of that stuff - that would be better than buying Stove Top. Don't forget chocolate. I then go back to produce to get carrots and celery for the stuffing. While there, I see that the broccoli doesn't look that good, so I will get it frozen when I get to that aisle. I grab a head of cabbage before leaving produce. I promised my youngest I'd make her favorite chicken and broccoli casserole, so I get chicken thighs, since they are cheaper and more forgiving if you overcook them. If I get the big package, I could bake the extras in my curry seasonings or Italian herbs and that would be good for my lunches. I could make the chicken dish first, reserve the drippings and use it in the stuffing, but am I going to make the fish dish first? hmmmm......never mind, I have chicken bouillon cubes, so I could go either way with that. There's the ground beef to go with the cabbage....I could freeze the beef and the cabbage will last long in the fridge, so it doesn't matter when I make that....

I think my method would drive most people crazy, but it works for me.
:)
*perk* curry seasonings??? :D

But not the pigs feet? O.O

You know what tho? - shouldn't tell you this but I do like something that's really gross. It's chitlins. I could eat em like popcorn. One time I had a big bowl of fried chitlins watching Duck Dynasty. Now that's weird. That's like doing irreversibly foul things and still being a Christian.

I know! I'm totally disgusting and it's been wonderful knowing you. I'd never heard of fake calamari so thank you for that. Makes me wonder about onion rings.
