yes, i voted. because you can't complain about the state of things if you don't, and i prefer to have that privilege. ; p plus, i still feel like the opportunity, the right to vote, is too special and important to ignore. even if i didn't feel like it all that much.

I handed in my ballot last week. Personally I wish a viable third party would rise up since neither major party (at the national level) truly represent my values anymore. At times I find myself voting for candidates that I really don't like a whole lot just because the alternative is even more distasteful.

too true.

however, i am sort of amazed by how many of the "lesser parties" are so well represented here. like, the green party is a THING. also a lot of libertarians.

of course, my state just followed your own in legalizing recreational pot today.

Voting is like shooting yourself in the foot, you're not going to win either way. I opted for shooting the left foot this year...

Germany's also broke and in need of a bailout. I think your best bet for socialism right now would be Sweden.

When it comes to one country versus another, I understand that there are legitimate reasons for people to emigrate.

When I hear Americans of Any political leaning talk about leaving... I want to pack their bags for them, seize their property, wealth and paperwork, and then give their opportunity to a deserving refugee.

Yes, our internal and international politics, and so much more, are all a big mess. I feel, however, you need to accept it, work to change it, or go somewhere politically unstable enough that they will let you try to start your own country and try to do a better job.

<sigh> can someone help me down off this soap box?

Sure did,
I voted in a way that protects peoples rights
as opposed to policing, regulating or restricting them.

Then the local Sargent and I met for an after election get together for our District Supervisor.
One heck of church going man who supports local small businesses, as opposed to Big Corporate Entities who try to push out a hometown grocery store to replace it with a Dollar Store.
Helps fight for our local water rights etc. as opposed to other views who want to control that and tax it.
As we anxiously awaited the poll results and saw the split was 49/51% him only 70 something votes behind,
We gathered around him in support for prayer.
It really hits home sometimes how every vote counts.
In matters like these, remaining quiet isn't submission.
It's surrender.

True but education is free in Germany even to americans. Plus I could renounce my american citizen and get rid of this student loan debt both parties have saddled me with due to a failing economy.

Education won't do anyone any good in a country there aren't any jobs available.

As the Republican party has become over run with "Neo-cons" who are just as bad as the Democrats with big government I find myself leaning more towards Libertarian but I really have serious issues with some Libertarian ideologies. I really don't have an issue with legalizing Marijuana across the board (at least make it a state issue instead of Federal), but strict Libertarianism would basically remove Federal prohibitions on ALL illicit drugs.

Yep, their terrible handling of the economy and their equally terrible handling of the stimulus packages to try and fix it have led to an even more terrible job-market where jobs with decent pay are very hard to come by.

No. I didn't vote yesterday. I'm not registered to vote here, but I don't think it would make much difference. All politicians are crooked in some way. And, with the negative ads out there now, am I voting for the biggest victim, or the one who said the worst things? Instead of telling me how horrible your opponent is, try telling me how good YOU are. Sorry... rant. :)
