Hmmmm what could I offer.

I work hard
My family is very important to me
I am a hopeless romantic
I write poetry and chances are- if I ever get married, my wife would find likely find poems to her and love notes hidden in her pockets. Small gifts- perhaps not expensive gifts but small gifts and surprises in random spots.
I also write songs and many other things.
I love to cook.
I don't really spend money on myself, I am very easy to please, but I am not stingy with money- I am fine with the little things in life.
I could offer advice and receive it
I have a shoulder to cry on and ear to listen.
If we hold on we will never fall.
I don't run away from problems, I look for resolve.
I could go on and on. I was a single father at the age of 22, I am 41 now.
You learn a lot taking care of a child- you learn to not be selfish, you learn to live for the ones you love.
I can offer honesty, love, encouragement, and faithfulness.

Anyway, doubt the idea of this was to go on a talking spree- but that's my partial answer.

The threads, where we list what we will accept or not accept in a potential lover, is cute and fun; but I believe it could be more constructive, to see what you think you could offer a potential mate.

I don't believe God brings anyone a spouse. I don't believe in soul mates. I believe we have to go on our own to meet someone, and make the decision to marry them. I believe the time between meeting someone and marriage, is the time you date, and sell yourself to them......To give reasons why this person should choose you.

This could be fun, or it could be a difficult exercise that reveals how we value ourselves. Some members here might spot great things about you, that you never realized about yourself. They could also disagree with your assessment of yourself. Members here read what you write, they remember it, and analyze it. I know, because it's what I find myself doing.

I got this idea this morning, reading repies to another thread called: I wouldn't marry....
I used the thread just to lay down some jokes, I don't really think I answered the question. I don't think I can. I saw some people post entire list of either characteristics or vices, they wouldn't accept in a mate. That is fine to know what you want in someone, but I don't know that I could make demands for a particular kind of person. This led me to think, if I had high standards for a bride, what could I offer them in return?

I guess now I have to start this.

Besides being the world's sexiest man (Aaron Rodgers not included, he's dreamy) I can fix most things broken.

I can repair your car. Not just simple repairs, I spent several years as a mechanic, and I can tell you why your engine light is on. I can repair the reason it is on. I will keep up with your vehicles service, my darlin will not be broke down on the side of the road. Even my ex wife misses this about me.

I come with a large assortment of tools.

I will keep the house up. I can drive a #16 with two hits of my California framer. I can paint, lay tile, hang a door on the hinges, glaze window panes in, plumbing, most electrical, install appliances, and drywall.

I can cook meat, and I'm a grill master.

I can split firewood with an axe.

I'm somewhat literate.

I haven't piloted an aircraft in years, but if the pilot has a heart attack, we should be fine.

I grew up sailing.

I can do some gun smithing. I've built a few of my own weapons, and I'm damned good with them.

I'm sure this list is far from what all I can do for a woman, but it really is just gravy for the potatoes.

I don't lie. I'd like to, but I'm no good at it. My deception would be discovered before I could utter the words. I always lose at poker. If it's strip poker, I don't mind too much. Don't ask me if your clothes make you look fat, if you don't want the truth.
If I love you, I will love you. I won't leave or cheat. I will carry my end of the vows. On the macro level, I will be happy with you, although I can't make you happy, it's not really my job. It's your burden to be happy with me. If the grass is a bit dry and dying on my side, I assume it's the same on the other. I don't like dead grass, and will call chemlawn if I have to.
I will accept your advice and counsel, but I will lead you in worship of our Lord.
You will lead it's nice to see something like that you're officially cool sir.

You don’t believe in soul mates? So you don’t believe God purposed Eve for Adam? That the soul of Rachel, Sarah, or Mary could have been put there with Adam randomly? Or that Eve could have married Moses if randomly selected? And what about the prayer and the sign that brought Rebecca to Isaac?

If there were soul mates.... why is the rate of divorce slightly higher among Christians?

Well first of all, not everyone who claims to be a Christian actually is one- thus the difference in ‘the elect’ and ‘the very elect’. Jesus only gives one reason for divorce, anything else is sinful. I don’t believe in two ‘very elect’ Christians who are married would ever get a divorce.

Oh boy, here we go again.

So which am I, the elect or the very elect? And how do I tell the difference?

When you dig deeper into divorce statistics you'll find there is a big difference in the divorce rates between those who claim to be Christian but are not regularly involved in ANY church fellowship and those who claim to be Christian but are intimately involved in a church body.

Like finding a good woman to be intimate with, finding a good church is often times as difficult.

You offer quite a bit for a woman to consider. I liked the last line especially, particularly faithfulness which is the most important quality that you can offer.

There are many acceptable reasons for divorce in the eyes of God. I am not familiar with the term very elect, not too clear on elect either for that matter. You were right in saying that not everyone who claims to be a Christian is actually a Christian. I believe that a Christian is supposed to be Christ-like. Truthfully, I have met very few of these. I guess that they weren't elect and certainly not very elect.

On a hot summer night
Would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
Will he offer me his mouth?
Yes
Will he offer me his teeth?
Yes
Will he offer me his jaws?
Yes
Will he offer me his hunger?
Yes
Again, will he offer me his hunger?
Yes!
And will he starve without me?
Yes!
And does he love me?
Yes
Yes
On a hot summer night
Would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
Yes
I bet you to say that to all the boys....

I really like this thread. We all have history but bludgeoning someone with all of it when you are first meeting them is not much of an introduction. It is difficult to praise yourself. It goes against everything I've been taught about modesty and humility but sharing what I have to offer is not only a good way to meet someone but also a good way to consider yourself.

Let's see. I had wonderful parents that loved each other deeply. My mom taught me about praising, encouraging and honouring a husband for a happy marriage. I have a history and social work degree. I've spent my career in counselling and doing volunteer work with street kids, single moms and working in hospital with people in crisis. The history part means I'm interested in just about everything and always up for a discussion.
I do my best to be an encourager and have open hospitality, humour and warmth as a hallmark of my home and friendships. I make friends easily having moved around a lot as a kid. I'm a loyal friend and look for people's qualities, helping them to remember their beauty when they forget it themselves. I am grateful and content. Even in bad times I know I am richly blessed and I choose my perspective. I am thankful for everyday miracles. I love sci fi and quirky humour. I am up for sailing on a reproduction Viking long boat (that was cool), acting classes, zombie walks (as a non-food item), godzilla film festivals and chilling with a stellar mug of cocoa. I am not high maintenance and have even made dandelion honey. I am always trying new recipes and doing the Mennonite cooking thing.
I love travel and have stayed in a Turkish home with no couches, kitchen table, stove, and the toilet was a hole in the ground. Most amazing time as I was accepted as part of the family.
I will listen and I will care. I will see you as a person rather than a role. I will have you always in my prayers and I will never stop lifting you up before God.

OK now I just need to get this made into a brochure and get mailing lol
