I would be concerned for a man who couldn't EVER cry. It's healthy. I've known mighty men of God and fierce warriors (soldiers and cops) who knew when to stand strong, but also understood the need for compassion and a contrite heart.

David stood alone against Goliath and fought many battles. BUT:

I Samuel 20:21 - After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side [of the stone] and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together--but David wept the most.

I read a statistic that said men cry about 50 times a year, which is once a week!!!
I think once a week is excessive, unless your life is a complete mess.
In general I think it's a problem to never cry because everyone needs to open up and get things out now and then, even if it's in private, but equally crying so often can indicate a big problem too, being over emotional can be a big hindrance to living a productive life.

Simply put crying isn't right or wrong, good or bad, and you do it when you have too.

Men can cry on 3 occasions:

If they lose a family member or close friend.
At their wedding.
When their children are born

Men can cry when ever they need to. We don't have to be strong. we can show our emotions, we can be weak. God greated us in his image, He knew everything about us before He created us. Our strength is not from our selves but from Him who created us.

So does that mean men should cry in the middle of girly movies?

^ This is the foundation of the problem..........showing emotion is strength.........surpressing emotion is weakness.

That's not to say crying when I see a puppy is acceptable, but seriously, there is no checklist, utterly ridiculous are some of the statements in this thread.

Showing emotion is not about being strong or weak, it's about being human. I'm not ashemed to say I'm weak in my own strength, but in Him I'm strong. I cry and I'm not ashamed of it, I'm His child, and he is strong for me.

Just to be clear, I wasn't attacking your opinion friend, quoting you just helped me make my point :)
I agree with you.

I think men should cry anytime it is necessary, but from this poll, nothing should make a man cry apart from the Death part :p

I personally think it's cute and sensitive for a guy to cry.... depending on thi situation, as in, the birth of his child, a sad movie, when he's lonely, or when he sees someone he loves struggling. Stuff like that.
My boyfriend cries... I'd like to say I've seen it, but I haven't. It was too dark. He was crying because I was upset.... I think that's a very good reason to cry.

"Savior, please take my hand
I work so hard, I live so fast
This life begins, and then it ends
And I do the best that I can, but I don't know how long I'll last

I try to be so tough
But I'm just not strong enough
I can't do this alone, God I need You to hold on to me
I try to be good enough
But I'm nothing without Your love
Savior, please keep saving me

Savior, please help me stand
I fall so hard, I fade so fast
Will You begin right where I end
And be the God of all I am because You're all I have

Hallelujah
Everything You are to me
Is everything I'll ever need
And I am learning to believe
That I don't have to prove a thing
'Cause You're the one who's saving me"

noooooo!

its the other way round!!!

Considering I said emotion and not crying does that mean it's weak to say 'I love you'?' or make any other honest statement of feeling?

Is it strong to surpress anger and then explode on an innocent person who came along at the wrong moment?

I ask because surpressing emotion as a whole leads to that kind of situation, and crying, if that's what works for an idividual is a way to get this stuff out before it becomes a giant mess, that's what I meant.

Yes but what happens is we bottle it all up for many years and never release it and as we hit middle-aged we just keep cramming it all down further into our heart until it'sl under tremendous pressure... so much pressure, in fact, that our heart explodes and we die forty years before our time... ROFL!!!
