I watched that Catfish show on MTV channel a few times. But it's so disturbing how nonchalantly these people deceive others online and how careless they are witple's feelings. It's horrible! I won't watch it anymore. :p

She meant she's been catfished before. She's never behaved in any way that the maybe catfish has.
That leonT dude with the other account. He catfished every one:(
And for the record, I will never be a troll or catfish, or any other internet thing lol. I don't enjoy offending people and only do in real life, when dpsaid person is an idiot, and deserves. To be offended. Yes God says the fool gives full vent to his rage, and the wise brings calm in the end, but I'm not perfect. I'm mortal. And thus have mortal frailties. But I do my mbest to follow God's Word:)

I agree with you. It's really sad that people do this. I was a member on another Christian forum for a year and I left that site because there were so many fake profiles. After awhile, the regular members became very jaded and cynical. I was told by some that had been members for years that the whole dynamic of the forum changed when certain members were discovered to be catfishing. Members lost interest in developing real friendships or a sense of community. It's very easy to be taken in. Some people are very practiced or skilled in the art of deception. I was very surprised by the pains some took to craft a believable profile. I guess no online community or forum is free from this type of member. It's just sad that professing Christians think it is okay to behave differently online than in real life.

This reminds me of another hallmark that seems to occur with a lot of catfishes on CC.

LeonT claimed to have gotten married, like, totally out of nowhere--literally within a matter of days.

Which is something I've also seen here over and over again--an especially beautiful/popular person who isn't actually that person has several people trying to court them...

And "suddenly", they announce that they're "getting engaged" or "getting married", because it throws off suspicion when real-life members try to actually meet with this person. Now they can say they're taken and have an excuse to never fully come out of the shadows, but yet they don't stop their attention-seeking behaviors, either.

This is why I asked in my original post if there are exceptions for people who are supposedly "taken", because apparently, these people think so.

And one of the people I suspect is a catfish has already crossed off this 4th clue (along with the other 3 in my earlier post) as well. Again, I could be wrong. But it looks highly suspicious.

I'm hoping that maybe one day, CC will be known as a place that doesn't tolerate catfishes, and maybe, just maybe, some of the people who do this will think twice before trying to deceive, or even join, our community.
