So a man recently said to me via email, "Your gorgeous."

Now, apart from the fact that he was overstating, here was my conundrum:

1. Nice compliment
2. He used "your" instead of "you're"

The reality is, I tend to be a terrible match for men who use "your" instead of "you're." And it's not because I'm a grammar snob. Mainly it's because men who don't distinguish between your and you're usually find ME to be geeky and tedious.

So, yeah, nice compliment. (sigh)

That was the first thing I noticed...and I'm afraid I would give the poor guy bad points just because of that. It's a bad habit of mine to judge a person by their grammar. :(

I have to smile at this...

I mean, if a man said, "I ain't want nothin' more than ta take care of ya an' luv ya all ma days," I'm wondering how you ladies (who judge grammar) would react?

I'm not saying it's wrong to encourage good grammar, I just find talk like this kind of charming (when it's the natural way the person speaks/communicates.)

(And I've had crushes on a few guys who talked--and probably wrote like this--in my day.)

It might be charming in speech, but in writing I don't care for it. Besides, being friends or acquaintances with people who use bad grammar is one thing, marrying or spending vast amounts of time with them is very much so another. I very simply couldn't live with someone who talks like that. I know myself. It would be fine for a while, then slightly annoying, then I'd be having a bad day and I'd start acting like a picky schoolteacher. (Sorry to any actual schoolteachers that might be reading this...I was talking about the ones in the story books!)

Depends on who is doing the talking. :p
If it is some random guy.....it will probably have little affect on me other than it being a compliment of sorts. (sort of)

BUT, someone that has meaning to me...like the last person who had my heart and attention......

When he would text me and say, "Good Morning Beautiful"....phew...NOTHING could wipe the smile off my face.
Talking, and he would get quiet and then say, "sweatheart, I love you!" Pure sincerity!! I felt it with every ounce of who I am.
Being playful, and using the word babe, or sweatie always got my attention too.
I don't think it mattered what word he used.....they always felt right from him.

You know how a carpenter's house is always falling down or a plumber's house has bad pipes....well, since I do this stuff for a living, I don't have the time or energy to do it in my free time.

I'm not really a snob when it comes to grammar. I usually end up experiencing reverse snobbery. I've dated lots of non-academic guys (I thought all of them had intelligence). Nearly every single one of them felt the need to nitpick my grammar, or tell me that I only use certain vocabulary words to deliberately sound superior, or find some way to push their insecurities off on me. That's why I anticipated that we'd be a bad match.
