Some new testament Scripture about TATTOOS.. here you go... Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
1Pe 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

One more... And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Tattoos are part of the TRANSFORM TO THIS WORLD...

I think you UNDERSTAND me now! If not me then the Scripture... And why we are having this discussion is for readers to BENIFIT... Both you and I advize them NOT TO GET tattoed, and the ones lke PRAUS that does have it, even use the TATTOO to God's honor... Maybe you should too! I do! I love Praus to say... it reminded him of the LOST DAYS ... Do you think Praus will get another... then let the person who THINK of getting one be DISCOURAGED to get one, by Praus witness and our AGREEMENT that Tattoos are NO GOOD TO GET... but if you have them USE THEM TO GOD'S HONOR... Witness that he even saved you from TATOOS....

I know that the body looks like we will have in heaven Jesus, Moses and Elijah displayed it on the MOUNTAIN...

So, you're saying that I should not braid my hair, wear gold accessories, or put on clothes. Ok, got it!

He did NOT mean God is Good, that is why Jesus repremanded him immediately...

The Gospel says............ (Mar 10:17) And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?(Mar 10:18) And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Sounds to me like Jesus wasn't "reprimanding" the rich man in the verse you hinted at. He was implying that He (Jesus) himself was in fact God.

Forgive me if I'm thinking of a different verse than you. You didn't post scripture so I could only guess.

JDecree I talk about when Jesus was not accepted as the TRUTH, he did not force ANY person to accept Him. On one occation Jesus visited a city on a high mountain, and when He gave them the truth, they wanted to get him out of there midst. so they thought... HEY LET US THROW HIM OUT ON THE HIGHEST POINT DOWN THE HILL.... But Jesus knew this, and I also know I would have thrown him off in my old days.... So HE JUST LEFT!

Waht I wanted to share with you is HE WAS PREACHING IN THE SYNAGOGUE AND THE PLACE WAS FILLED WITH WRATH...
Jdecree, do you think it is EAZY to talk TRUTH even in CC? Do you think the LOVE you share are WELL RECIEVED, or does it FLAME UP IN WRATH... And i just recieved ANOTHER one I have to walk a mile with...

If I judge with God's Word, who does the judging, me or the Word? I only believe the Word of God, and I share that. If it means I will invoke wrath, then be it so, but I thought you and I were getting somewhere. But it is as though you really are not trusting me as a TRUTH person... Do not judge me as person judge what I say,...

Like Suge does.. let him hammer what I say and I will elaborate untill he UNDERSTANDS.... I have NOTHING against a person that has a TATTOO. but I would be VERY dissappointed if I showed Suge that tattos is not For God and not For HIS CHILDREN, and he goes and get one anyway... I have a BIG problem with the person that are SHOWN tattos is TABOO, and yet he keeps PAINTING ON FLESH!.... The TATTO artist that came to repentance... MAY WE HEAR OF HIM... Let HIM share wbout TATTOOS then we know...

I learned much from that Scripture.... And I am NOT English I am Afrikaans, so I will make many tence and spelling mistakes, but I will NOT FAIL IN LOVE TO YOU... That is my Godly gift.... to love EVEN MINE ENEMY///

Looking forward to a great relationship with you my friend, SUGE!

You're dragging my personal testimony about the healing through the Blood of the Lamb into your personal... whatever.. . really Misty77?

1 Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

I still don't understand what you mean Cobus. I wasn't even talking to you when I posted or I would have quoted you. I was speaking about people putting burdens on people in matters that are not clearly defined in the bible. I wasn't referring to you.

Think about its origin. It's was first used in pagan culture. I don't think a Christian would want that knowing it's origin. He who doubts in what he do, it is sin. I think that broadens our perspective whether we should or shouldn't do it. Conviction is one of the best indicator that it is sin.
If I were to follow your logic to its conclusion, celebrating Christmas is sin, because it essentially highjacked pagan festivals. Christian rap is sinful because of where it comes from, and the awfulness that is at the root of much contemporary rap. Heck, God shouldn't have led wise men to where the baby Jesus was via star, because of the pagan connotations associated with star watching and astrology.

However, your point on conviction is apt. Paul gives us excellent and clear guidelines on this point, and does this through the very relevant example of eating food previously offered to idols (if this isn't a clear cut example of engaging in a practice derived from pagan worship, tattooing certainly isn't either!). If you are convicted that it is wrong, than for you it is indeed sin. Do not get a tattoo if you are not firmly convinced in your own thinking that it is acceptable. This is part of why I personally would likely never get a tattoo - while I think it is fine, and there is a freedom there, I am not convinced enough in my own conscience to be sure I should get one myself. I don't particularly want one either, but that's another matter. :p

But Paul's point is clear - while conviction is certainly a trustworthy indicator in terms of your OWN activity, it is not necessarily reliable in terms of the practice of others. If it were, Paul would not have needed to write 1 Corinthians 8. Origins themselves are frequently neither here nor there - the context, the motivation and the contemporary effect are what matters. This requires wisdom on all our parts.

Having a hard time keeping up with these posts. Still new to this site....

To answer your question No. I didn't get that impression. From reading the entire passage I saw a wealthy Torah observant Jew, who when push came to shove was not willing to give up his cushy lifestyle as per Jesus request/test. Overall this passage exposes the legalistic nature of how the law was in large part being kept in those days. It was void of spirit. This passage also shows how people put faith in their earthly possessions more than they do in God. At the end of the day, although I think the rich man was sincere, he put more value in his riches and possessions than he did in God.

African-American people are sinful?
To clarify - there are certain high profile rappers who encourage violence, particularly violence against women, for one. There are plenty of other things I could mention, but that's the thing that gets my goat. In many respects, that kind of attitude is what is often associated, rightly or wrongly, with rap music in general. If you got the wrong impression, and thought I was putting out a racial slur, I apologise for that. Nothing could have been further from my mind when writing that.

I did not mean to make any comment on the ethnic context, simply the anti-establishment kind of context. For the record, there's a lot of rap (secular and Christian), that I can get behind, even though it's not my style of music (blues and jazz is more my thing :p ). However, my point was simply to say that what is termed Christian rap grew out of a rebellious, often violent musical subculture that encourages practices and activities that should be antithetical to Christian livelihood (even though we should by all means engage with it!). Precisely what ethnic group started rap (or blues or jazz, for that matter) is irrelevant. What matters is the culture, that goes beyond ethnicity into lifestyle and practice. However, I believe that some rap (and for the purpose of this discussion, Christian rap) can be a good thing, regardless of its origin. That is my overriding point - origin is less important than contemporary context, and the difference between the thing and a Christian appropriation of that thing (whether rap or tattoos)

Misty I was going to show you one very humble woman that is the MOST FAMOUS IN HISTORY....
And I love your avatar....

Look what Jesus said about this woman and look we are TALKING about her and it has been 2000 years... WOW GOD is great.. and SO TRUTHFUL.

Look here ... Luke And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
Luk 7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
THEN THIS....

Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
Luk 7:48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
Luk 7:49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
Luk 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Do I love so much because so MANY was forgiven me too? I guess the WORD IS TRUTH...

Hey that's more like it. Now were are getting warmer. I like how you used scripture directly to make a point and let the scripture speak for itself.

Thank you for injecting some much-needed logic into the thread. :)
